Another Buffalo National Championship
filed in Opinion on Sep.04, 2009 by Hawk
For the second year in a row, a member of the Buffalo brotherhood has presented the circumstances under which the Buffs could take it all the way to Pasadena. It is biased, it is unfair, and there is little evidence to support it could actually happen, so I’m all for it. The Vegas odds on this are rough, but when it happens, just remember that you heard it here first. They don’t call it fantasy football for nothing, so buckle up. . .
As told to Buffs.tv by Buffalo Shawshank:
It’s upon us – kickoff 2009.
Our ’09 Buffs are going to be special – very special. The youth has matured, the staff is stable, Ralphie is ready, and no opponent is feared.
Wait no longer, and enjoy this great time of year. Most importantly, enjoy yet another Buffs National Championship.
September 6 versus Colorado State
Two words: “Over Early”. Two more: “No Chance”. The green and gold of the lesser known school in Colorado will have more Folsom grass stains on the back of their jerseys than Barrack has smirks. Give the Fort boys credit for showing up, and that’s about it. A classic “woodshed” thrashing. CU 48 CSU 13. 1-0.
September 11 at Toledo
Trap game? No. Tough test? Not Really. A mere four days of preparation make this ESPN Friday evening battle very close in the early stages. Talent and mettle persevere, and Our Buffs roll behind a break out performance by Darrell Scott and the absolute best OL in the country. CU 40 Toledo 3. 2-0.
September 19 versus Wyoming
The mighty Cowboys of Wyoming have heart and desire. Matter of fact, they have more talent than the majority of the Pac 10. The real question is, can they keep up with our Buffs and the speed of the Big 12? Nope. No way. Our Buffs 3-4 “D” is well on its way to being the most tenacious unit in the country. A shutout almost occurs, and a domination is what will happen.
CU 55 Wyo 3. 3-0.
October 1 at West Virginia
Another smart decision by ESPN, as this Thursday night ticket will be available to all. This game is being tabbed as the biggest NCAA game yet this season (and perhaps in the last few years). Our Buffs stay disciplined, focused, and driven. Andre Simmons makes Josh Smith a “lost thought”, Cody stands tall, and Hawk is masterful. Call this a good game, but certainly not a close game. CU 27 WV 10. 4-0
October 10 at Texas
Time for the Big 12 and time for “real” football. Colt and the ‘Horns are legitimate, and Austin is a decent city. However, Cody and Our Buffs are superior and Boulder is better. The stronger “D” comes from Our Buffs, and the better quarterback proves to be Cody. A late TD pulls UT within 7, but an 84 yard burst by Rodney Stewart finishes this game in style. CU 24 UT 13. 5-0.
October 17 versus Kansas
As usual, a more beautiful day under the Flatirons than along Pacific Coast Highway. This stellar weather in Boulder parallels
Our Buffs complete game performance versus the Jayhawks. Cody completes 14 straight, D-Scott breaks two 40+ gains, Espinoza returns a punt for six, and the “D” remains sturdy. KU is still a hoops school, and Our Buffs reinforce the better football school. CU 34 KU 10. 6-0.
October 24 at Kansas State
Our Buffs are now in the Top 10 and the entire college football community knows this team is for real. The OL continues to dominate, the WR group is peaking, and stable of RB’s continue to thrive. However, this late October showdown proves to be all about Our Buffs “D”. The first shutout of the year is carded, and K-State can only manage 6 first downs. CU 39 KSU 0. 7-0.
October 31 versus Missouri
Under cloudless skies and 74 degrees (currently raining in S. Cal), this pivotal Big 12 North clash is yet another nationally televised event for Our Buffs. Jefferson records his first TD as a Buff, B-Lock makes his presence felt with a 73 yard scamper, and Our Buffs “D” records 6 sacks. Pinkel and crew leave town embarrassed and thumped. CU 34 Mizzou 6. 8-0.
November 7 versus Texas A & M
Folsom is rocking, as Our Buffs have cracked the Top 5 in all polls. Coach Sherman and the once vaunted Aggies are simply no match for the hottest team in the country. Give our friends from College Station credit for recognizing the enormous difference in talent as they exit Boulder; also, give credit to the entire Buffs “O” for steamrolling this bottom tier Big 12 South foe. CU 49 T A&M 9. 9-0.
November 14 at Iowa State
Short and sweet, and very simple. After returning the opening kickoff 104 yards and scoring on six consecutive possessions, this game is mopped up by Seth Laboto and the rest of the traveling squad. Cody and crew never see the 2nd half with a helmet on, and Our 3rd ranked Buffs continue to improve. CU 56 ISU 7. 10-0.
November 19 at Oklahoma State
Yet another ESPN Thursday night – nationally televised, as usual – showdown. Give the Pokes credit for piecing together a remarkable season to date, and give the Pokes fans credit for filling their house. At the end of the evening, credit can only be given to Our Buffs, as Pickens and crew have run out of wind. In their best performance to date, the “D” creates 3 turnovers, Cody scrambles for a pair of TD’s, and Hawk Sr. finally sheds the Boise State “monkey”. In typical ’09 fashion, Our Buffs roll. CU 30 OSU 7. 11-0.
November 27 versus nebraska
On the day after Thanksgiving, Our Buffs and all Coloradoans are still very thankful. Better stated, we are thankful every day of the year. WE ARE THANKFUL THAT WE ARE NOT nebraskans. Pelini (still striking a strong resemblance to a cross between Neuheisel and Barrack) is aghast. Little Bo’s emotions are rather embarrassing, but certainly understandable – from a nebraskans perspective. Our Buffs post their second shutout of the year and a near perfect performance. CU 57 neb 0. 12-0.
December 5, Dr. Pepper Big 12 Championship, Dallas, TX
Our Buffs will not be looking ahead to the Gators – we know we need to take care of the Sooners. With Jerry Jones and new Dallas HC Mike Shanahan looking on, Our Buffs christen the new Cowboys venue in style. D-Scott nets 147 yards, B-Lock gets 2 TD’s, and Cody completes 74%. As has been the case all season, the “D” dominates. Put CU’s 2nd Big 12 Title in the books. CU 31 OU 13. 13-0.
January 7, BCS CITI National Championship, Pasadena, CA
Not a better place to capture yet another National Championship than in Slick Rick’s backyard. Tebow is tough, the Gators are great, and this game proves to be a classic. This game also proves to be a low scoring affair (however, Our Buffs will score more points in this game than UCLA scores all season), and it is undecided until the mid-point of the 4th quarter. Faced with a 3rd and 4 at the Gators 19 yard line, D-Scott sheds three tackles and streaks to a touchdown. Buff Nation is in a frenzy, while Hawk Sr. calmly tosses his index finger into the S. California sunset. CU 24 UF 17.
Celebrate CU Style. Celebrate yet another National Championship for Our Buffs.
College Football season is upon us – enjoy.

How'd the "over early" and "no chance" work out for us? I'm done. I'm so sick and tired of getting hyped of for a new season and watching this crap. I remember when we were good. Oh, how we have fallen.
Keep this mental picture for a while–CSU fans rushing the field and celebrating on OUR field.
Does anyone else remember when we used to dominate teams? When we actually had a gameplan? When we looked like we knew what we were doing? Even if Coach Hawkins is let go at the end of this year, we have to wait another 4 years until the new coach gets "his guys" in the system??? I should have enjoyed the Barnett years a lot more than I did, it will be a long time before we ever compete in the Big 12 again.
