Katoa turns himself in – Immediately Suspended by Hawk
filed in Players on Mar.15, 2008
Lynn Katoa, our top 100 LB recruit from the 2008 recruiting class, apparently has done this:
Witnesses told police that a man, whom they reportedly identified as Katoa, “walked into the apartment, slammed one victim’s head into a wall, then hit another victim with his fist. There were some accounts that the suspect was holding a rock at the time.”
Katoa turned himself in under suspicion of 2nd Degree assault. He has since posted $5k bail.
The AP story and the Boulder daily camera story differ in that the AP story does not include the history behind the fight. Apparently, Katoa was mad that these guys and their friends tazered one of his buddies earlier in the night.
This is really bad news for Katoa and the program. The key is the rock. There is some confusion amongst the witnesses on which hand he used, if he even had the rock, etc. If the court declares he assaulted with a deadly weapon, than Katoa will likely never play a down for CU. The way I have read the stories so far, and in comparison to the Sipili case last year, I think Katoa can hope for a years suspension at best. Will he even stay with he program? Who knows at this point, everything is still up in the air.
The only other good thing I can think of is that Katoa did not cause any permanent harm like Sipili did.
On a personal note, I understand why Katoa did what he did. I in no way condone it. As a Buff, this is a tragedy. Let us hope that he learns a lesson here without losing his scholarship.

This is all a little bit shocking. It certainly does not reflect the character that I have seen in this team. But each of these issues is very serious. And I am sure the school and the team will treat them as such.
I have to disagree with Skye. There is no way to understand why these events occurred. This behavior is simply not acceptable.
Katoa will probably never play for the Buffs. I expect him to be expelled for assault with a deadly weapon.
Geer will probably be suspended for the semester. I am not sure if it will be this semester or next.
For completeness. Nate Vaiomounga and Kai Maiava both received Minor in Possession tickets in January.

I see not much has changed in Boulder.. Still recruiting gang bangers and thugs for the program.. Anything to win a game, right??

The major difference is the CU won’t tolerate this behavior. We are talking suspension and expulsion not just from the team but from school.
Nebraska has a history of turning a blind eye to these issues.

Case in point, it will be interesting to see the how Nebraska offensive lineman Andy Christensen will be handled. He was arrested last week for sexual assault.

Come on now, Hawkins will win at any price..
Case in point, giving a recruit’s mom a six figure job in which she has no experience in..

Stupid kids. Hand the world to them on a silver platter, and they go and f**k it up. Hawk needs to make an example out of these two losers- enough is enough.
“I was defending myself” seems to have become a 24-7 mantra. Grab a clue: NOBODY CARES WHO STARTED IT. Just ask your future cell mate, Sipili.
Not that a couple of brawls are all that big a deal, but the media attention they generate IS a big deal and hurts the team. It also hurts my liver when I grab another brew because the team sucks again because two (three? I’ve lost count) goddamn starter-potential players are too stupid to not punch someone in the head.
Here – I”ll even show you how:

OK. You’re done. That wasn’t that hard was it?
It’s the BIG XII BROTHER! Everyone knows who you are so start acting like it. (For those who had trouble qualifying, let me dumb it down for you: YOU WILL GET CAUGHT IF YOU F**K UP BECAUSE YOU”RE FREAKIN’ HUGE AND ON TV EVERY WEEK.
Seriously, this kid has NFL potential and all he has to do to get a shot is not hit someone in the head with a rock. Way to go, Captain Dumbass, you just put a life of ease and millions of dollars at risk for no f’ing reason. Good luck at the car wash.
This is not sad. Sadness is reserved for those who don’t go way out of their way to screw up their own lives. This is pathetic.

Maybe he will get a good lawyer and get off? Boulder is Cop crazy, good thing a Chick didnt say he looked at her cross eyed, because the pigs would roast him. Shame on the Boulder Police. They are part of the problem too. Plus, check the credentials of the AP reporter. Bet he went to Mizzou! Besides, those Frat Slobs on the hill need a little slap, too bad they have big mouths. They(the Frat Slobs) should have kept their mouths shut. So, what happens to “Tazer Dude”? Of course nothing. BTW, there is no way in hell he will transfer to another Big 12 program. Hawk won’t let him.

Mr. Katoa needs to lighten up. If someone drive-by-stunned one of my buddies, I’d probably die laughing. I honestly can’t think of a situation where it’s not funny. Either he deserved it, in which case all is right with the world, or he didn’t, which is just good old-fashioned fun.
Where’s the sense of humor in the kids today? Hawk needs to line these kids up and give em some stun guns.

This is BULLCRAP.
Let me guess, the tazer guys are the ones Katoa hit.
Oh, but nobody’s talking about how they freaking should’t be tazering people around! I mean, they’re the “victims”
I really hope Katoa will get a good lawyer or something and be able to keep playing fo the Buffs
