Darrell Scott: Playing the Field or Not the Person we Thought?
filed in Recruiting on Jan.04, 2008 by Skye
Under an interview titled “Darrell Scott: I love everything about Texas”
In it, to keep a long story short, Scott talks about how starting is so important to him and the fact that Jamaal Charles has left for the Pros makes him really want to go there. Also, he mentions that if Florida “shows him a good time” they could be in the drivers seat as well.
The killer quote is this one:
IT: With Jamaal Charles gone, does that make Texas more enticing than Colorado?
Scott: Oh yeah. No doubt.
Pretty nice complement to the stable of backs CU currently has coming in since Scott thinks he doesn’t have a good chance to start compared to Texas, huh? I don’t know what the hell Scott is thinking. The talent level (star wise) is way higher at Texas, Florida, or LSU. Texas has been recruiting highly rated RBs forever, and Florida has Moody (5 star) who transferred in…
I think hes just enjoying himself for the most part here. I mean, he even mentions that CU doesn’t have indoor facilities and how the weather is an issue…. CU DOES have indoor facilities and has a way nicer climate through the majority of the year then Texas. I don’t blame the kid at all for pumping up Florida or LSU, I mean, those schools sure know how to recruit!
In the end, I would love for CU to have a back of his caliber, but we all know how Marcus Houston turned out right? Lets hope the coaches put a full court press on the guy towards signing day and that Scott shows himself to be a man of his word (reporters with sources inside the program say that Scott gave Hawkins a verbal commitment during his visit, which of course, the guy denies… He is on a reality TV show!)

It’s all talk. He knows damn well where he’s going and is working the media for fun. Which means this kid is either has a wicked sense of humor or he’s a prima donna. I pray it’s the former, at least if he’s coming to CU…
Don’t let it go to your head, Mr. Scott. It’s the Big XII, brother!

The kid has the chance to make history in Boulder. At these other schools he’ll be just another star.

What a punk ass. I wonder how Ray Polk feels? Screw this guy, his head is bigger than his dick. Go play with Colt, that guy sucks. We have the makings of great team next year (never thought I would say that, Huh Skye?) We need team players, not individuals that only care about their stats and the limelight. Look at what Mack Brown has done with RB’s? Very Little.

I would love to see Darrell Scott in a Buffs uniform, but come on Kid Buffaloe … arguing against Texas running backs under Mack Brown isn’t going to get you anywhere. Maybe you’ve forgotten about Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, Jamal Charles, Selvin Young and Hodges Mitchell. All were top tier Big 12 RB’s

I pray to god that this kid comes to CU. If he wants to make an immediate impact on a program he should be a Buff. Standing on the sidelines for two years won’t get him anywhere at Texas.

Wasnt Ricky Williams under Mackovic?
January 11th, 2008 on 9:31 pm
Ricky Williams won the Heisman and most of his awards under Mack Brown
January 11th, 2008 on 10:14 pm
Ricky played one season (1998) under Mack Brown.
January 12th, 2008 on 9:32 pm
Yeahh why would he go to CU. Haha yall are a joke texas actually sends people to the pros and actually go to BCS games and have 10 win seasons
January 12th, 2008 on 10:17 pm
Jordan, did you go to Texas? I would guess, if I were forced to, that you did not.
January 15th, 2008 on 8:48 am
Texas this, Texas that…BCS, college sports are rigged. Only the Universiites with 40K+ students get to the BCS (Hawaii was a ruse). Look at how OSU/LSU/Texas are always in the top 10 of something. God, What is wrong with the hoops program at CU! Princeton offense?

And what is the Problem with Patrick Gates? I thougt all 20 year olds had cell phones? What? He cannot call coach and say “I’m not coming”? When something stinks, something’s fishy.

Decent article in the Denver Post today on Scott and the recruitment of him. Unfortunately it still seems he is undecided and will wait until the deadline to declare.

So, No word on Patrick Gates?

First off good luck on getting Scott, hes going to be a beast in college wherever he goes. Just wanted to comment on Kid Buff, college sports are rigged? U go to top games due to ur record, sorry 6-6 didnt get u there, top programs tend to have alot of students because this creates more money. More money = better facilities = better coaches and players = BCS bids. And Mack has done more in 10 years with his backs then CU has done in its existence, dont get it twisted.

Please name one back from Texas that has done absolutely anything in the NFL besides get hurt or smoke weed? In the end what a back does in college does not mean anything

DARRELL SCOTT- Lets be real. At Texas he will be surrounded with Talent. Allowing him great exposure. He will have greater rankings (yards, etc) with the surrounding talent. He will be a big star and Texas gives him an edge when the NFL comes calling. CU would be good but Texas is the best choice long term. He will most likely be a starter as a freshmen RB at Texas. Not to mention, Scott could win a National Championship at Texas.
January 31st, 2008 on 6:57 pm
Correct. Scott should choose Texas. He will have exposure, BCS games and Mack Brown’s team becomes family. Your right, when the NFL comes calling Texas will give him an edge. This could be the difference of first round draft choice or a third round draft. CU would get you injured in a game. (defense would only have to key on you if at CU- prone to injury). Texas has great players that would elevate your game. You would be a big fish at both universities. Reality…

Texas backs.. Earl Campbell, Priest Homes, Selvin Young, Cedric Benson (would be great if he had a offensive line in front of him) Ricky Williams, had potential, he made some mistakes. So yes.. Texas has history and tradition.
January 31st, 2008 on 7:11 pm
Scott- He would get injured at CU. The opponents defense would hit every play. At Texas, he would excel and with the Talent they have on the field. The defense would not be able to zone in on Scott all the time. Mack Brown is a great coach, had the players seem to be a family. Also, he would be a better draft pick if he plays at Texas.

Weather… on the internet it was 70 degree and sunny in Texas in the middle of Winter. It is too cold here in colorado.

Texas would be best for him. With Jamal Charles going to the NFL, that would allow Scott to be a starter by early to mid-season. Texas has great backs in the wings, but that just enhances Scott because he would be “THE MAN”, yet able to rest with other talented backs. He would be running strong in the 4th quarter at Texas. The team would be his family. Mack cares about his players. A star player at TEXAS,(that big time).. A star player at CU–who cares… Texas would be the wise choice…

Lets face it… If you were Darrell SCOTT and the Texas Longhorns offered you a chance to play. You would goto Texas too. Not to mention you also have to be intelligent to get into the school. The school has everything. Academics, sports, prestige, etc.. Colorado has what.. snow.. yuk.. great to visit dont want to live it. Texas has beaches, lakes, overall good weather, mountains, plains, history. Not to mention a contender every year for a national championship. Thats reality.

TEXAS – Scott Yea, Texas has one of the top business, law, medical schools in the country. Also, they have one of the BEST football programs in the country too. To be part of that University would be a great experience and prestigeous. Besides, Burnt Orange is a great color for a school. Black, green, gold, red is a common color. Burnt Orange is a statement.

If Scott went to CU. The CU coach would not have earned him, but rather he knew that by signing his Uncle he would have a chance. Smart or Selfish??? neptism. Colorado is always having mischief in its football programs.
February 6th, 2008 on 8:35 am
First of all Kid Buff Texas has dominated in football the past ten years. And you are sitting here talking about how Mack doesnt do anyting with backs. Jammal Charles is the fastest back in the league which is the kind of brake away speed that pro scouts look for. Also its not just about the backs Mack has done a great job with getting players ready for the pros. Cedric Griffin, Michael Griffin, Aaron Ross, Michael Huff, Quentin Jammer, Nathan Vasher, Marcus Tubbs, Rodrique Write, Tim Crowder, Derreck Johnson, Brian Robeson and thats just devensivly offensivly Cedric Benson, Ricky Williams, Selivin Young, Roy Williams, David Thomas, Leonard Davis, Johnathan Scott, and the great all mighty VINCE YOUNG! So you talk about a coach who can put kids in the pros Mack brown is doing plenty fine. And i would like to mention that the NY Giants starting CB Aaron Ross from Texas just won the Super Bowl so now try to tell me that Mack isnt gunna help him for his future. Go Horns!!!!

Thanks VY 4ever to relaying the facts to the colorado fan who is uneducated in the facts. Thanks.. Well CU got Scott. How does that effect Texas. Texas will not have that big pounding back, BUT they still have fresh legs and in the wings 2-3 FOUR star RB recruits. Not to mention talent all around. Colorado- remember Scott did not chose Colorado for its great football, but rather because of the family connection. When you guys recruit because or reputation lets us know..

CU got Scott because of Scott’s poor decision. He will go nowhere with them. Oh well, NFL chance down the drain. His choice. His loss.
February 11th, 2008 on 12:48 pm
Man, all you Texas motherfuckers are pissed! Just accept it, you got burned. Without Vince, you have not done shit but disappoint. Oh well, at least you’ll always have the 2006 Rose Bowl.
October 6th, 2008 on 8:24 pm
Looks like Darrel Scott has turned out to be a joke. He has not done squat. Texas shut him down as they DESROYED CU, and he got injured. He’s toast.
