That’s a good question after searching the media guides and Internet, I came up with nothing official. I posed this one to Dave Plati. Of course he had the answer:
“I think Scout and Rival started in earnest around that time, morphing from some others… in the 90′s, the main ones were all magazine-type publications or services like SuperPrep, Max Emfinger, Prep Football Report, Blue Chip, and Joe Terranova’s Who’s Who All-Americans. Scout and Rivals are aligned with some of those; Bobby Wallace was the SuperPrep guy and I am not sure if he’s tied into one or other or he might be the expert for ESPN.com, CBS SoprtsLine or SI.com.
We used to list rankings every now and then in the media guide, until it became obvious that politics started playing into some of it (or the fact we were hearing some kids weren’t getting ranked higher, or at all, if the parents weren’t subscribing). Our top classes were the ’92 and ’96 classes (both as high as No. 2 by some services), and I know the ’90, ’91, ’94, ’95 and ’98 classes were all generally considered top 10. The ’87 one was not because it was so small, but if it had been based on quality and not quantity, or how they ranked them today, it may very well have been No. 1.”

I was wanting to see and know what this year’s recruiting compares with the best of the 90′s? Could you give the best year CU recruited in the 90′s, the names, stars and compare this to that? Thanks,

why do they change the star power of these recruits? do they re-evaluate them after the season and make adjustments?

It looks like Scouts now has us at #19, although I have no idea how those rankings work. If you compare us to Nebraska who is at #18, we have two more Top 100 players, two more 4 star recruits, two less 3 star players, and the same number of average stars. Yet, Nebraska has more “points” than us. Frankly, I don’t give a crap where these sites rank us, I’m happy with the job Hawkins is doing and excited to see how these kids turn out.

Exciting class shaping up!! Will be interesting to see how many of this class come in and make significant impacts like the last class. 2009 will be a great great time to be a Buff with an exciting team dominated by Juniors and Sophs!
