Sonny Lubick, your talents were too great for the school you coached. Its mediocrity pulled you down until you could not escape the morass that is CSU football despite all the scheming you could do. I do not see CSU getting lucky and bringing in a coach that can lift the program higher then you did. Your success will pass into legend and will be remembered with fondness by CSU fans everywhere as their program returns to its rightful place at the bottom of the dogpile.
As a sports fan, it is sad to see what happened to you. You made miracles with the cast offs that better programs would not even look at as walk ons… And you sure as hell made September an interesting time during your tenure.
As a CU fan, I am so fricken stoked you are gone. Whatever you fed your boys before their bowl game against us every year, it sure as hell got them riled up. I am looking forward to the CSU game not being so nail-biting in the future. In State rivalries are dangerous enough to a teams early season momentum even without a dangerous and wily opponent. I am ok with that even if CSU’s return to mediocrity does mean that Invesco will not have a full house in future years unless CU regains its national prominence. Maybe Air Force will take your spot in the annual rivalry? Change can be good.
Goodbye Sonny Lubick, enjoy your $530 thousand per year buyout. You sure as hell deserve it! Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, gooodbye.
