Stay out of the Valleys…. The Day after…
filed in Recruiting on Nov.04, 2007
Well, yesterday wasn’t the best of days. Woke up sick on my only day off, Mizzou does a clinic of the spread offense against a prevent defense (sickening defense, I hate it!), and CU suffers its worst loss at home since the 2nd year of the McCartney era (also to Mizzou, 59 to 20). Lets hope that the similarities continue, if only at an increased rate.
In good news, Darrell Scott (#1 RB in the nation), has declared that CU has a huge advantage in recruiting him due to the presence of Josh Smith on the team.
The linked article says the Buffs are in the lead when it comes to getting him to sign. The quotes they attribute to him do not say that exactly. The quotes are simply:
“”Family comes first,” Scott said. “It is a big deal. It’s weird cause I really do want to play with him. Colorado has an advantage over everybody else with that.”
Let us hope that Scotts Reality TV show about being recruited has a happy ending for the Buffs! In a way, Scott’s reasoning makes sense. With his talent, it’s pretty obvious that he will start almost anywhere, and if he does well, an NFL career is very possible. At the Buffs, he has very little heralded talent to contend with, an Offensive scheme that loves the run game, CU gets good national exposure, and he gets something he considers important along with everything he needs to be successful.
Is Scott keeping CU at #1? Its a silver lining on a very cloudy day.

The first time I ever tuned out of a buff game early. I cannot wait for next year. Potential 5 star running back, a quarterback with game experience, matured receivers, another Cabral coached defense (let’s avoid repeats of yesterday please).

You watched 70 to 3? Now thats dedication…
November 4th, 2007 on 3:12 pm
Next year worse for you. Chase Daniels and Coffman are both back and so is Maclin and your at MIZZOU! Remember the 5th down! Suck it!
Daniels will be a Senior going for Heisman!
November 4th, 2007 on 3:31 pm
Heisman should be him or Reesing. You guys losing any offensive linemen? That can quickly derail a team.
November 4th, 2007 on 4:37 pm
I did watch 70-3. I’ll never forget watching one of the most dominating performances of football I had ever seen. Which made me realize how far the Buffs are going to have to come to compete in national championship football.

Next week is a huge chance at a bounce back game for us. Under Barnett we’d come out against a team like ISU and play down to them, especially after a big loss, and give the game away late. I think Hawkins will have us prepared and we’ll come out and play some good football.
November 4th, 2007 on 6:27 pm
who are we? a different team from week to week. the 5th down never happened and you know it.
November 4th, 2007 on 8:47 pm
Daniels, whoever the hell that is, better be good to fill Daniel’s shoes, as I suspect he may be tempted by the NFL next year.
All I remember about the 5th down (were you even born yet?) is that CU ran 4 plays and WON.
November 4th, 2007 on 9:23 pm
Yes, the illusion of the “5th down” is tempting…
Thank god that national championship is very much NOT an illusion.

Coaching and Cody. Bottom line. Please stop making excuses for them. I am sure he is a nice guy, but can he lead? He obviously is several notches below most QB’s in the NCAA. Do you notice how hard it is to make even the easiest throw? We struggle on EVERY offensive play. NO one is ever WIDE open, Never! And every RB run, there is always a defender in the play. Look at the longest run of the year…30 yards. We are lucky to be 5-5. And how crappy is the state of football in the state Colorado? What a joke with the Lambs, Puffs and Falcons, plus the Donkeys.
Do you really think Scott is coming to CU? Don’t count on it. In Fact, watch Josh Smith transfer, and poof, He’s gone.
Oh BTW, Please get that sunshine pump out of your rear, because I would be willing to wager my Six Figure Salary that they will lose at ISU. BEWARE THE IDES OF NOVEMBER. Beware of a powder puff, pothead team called the “Puffs”
November 5th, 2007 on 8:57 am
You have a six figure income and nothing better to do then trash talk a team on their own website? You must be a real go-getter right, heres an idea use that money to go buy yourself a ticket for the bandwagon because real buffs fans don’t need to hear your over inflated BS.
November 5th, 2007 on 9:28 am
well said CO native! if u dont like whats going on right now in this turn around process then get the F outta here and go jump on the Kansas or Oregon Bandwagons!
have a little faith! i know we have been inconsistant but to say we never have players wide open is not true! we r making strides in the right direction! and for us to even make a bowl game this year will be a great success! and confidence builder for next years team!
BLEED BLACK AND GOLD or GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE!
GO BUFFS!!!!

You guys are fools. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE, since you work at Starbucks. The Buffs are a mere shell of a team. Thats the problem with kids these days, no competitive nature. They need therapy if a car back fires! When I was in school WE WERE WINNING CHAMPIONSHIPS, NOT LOOKING FOR “SILVER LININGS”. Please stop making excuses, and start demanding some work ethic, focus and coaching from the Buffs. 12 penalties and 100 yards passing is testament to that. How can you have a “Bandwagon” when the wheel’s where blown off versus KState. And don’t be hater because your a broke ass Bizzo.
November 5th, 2007 on 11:30 am
Hey if you have given up on the Buffs, or at least this version of them, please, feel free to come back next year.
CU had a good roughly 10 year run at the top. One could definitely argue that the time frame was even shorter then that. Before and after that, CU has been an also-ran program. McCartney built the team from nothing to a powerhouse. Hawkins didn’t start with nothing, but just by looking at the players on the offensive side of the ball, you can tell that he only had a few pieces of the puzzle.
This team has issues staying focused when things get a little crazy. See ASU and KSU. Schizophrenic teams are often a sign of youth. I do not know Hawkin’s record exactly, but he did not come into the program with a history of “schizo” teams. Look for things to improve as last years TWENTY SEVEN recruits mature and are supplemented with additional talent.
We did beat the #3 (and now, back to #4) team in the country. We did hold a 3rd quarter lead and nearly come back to win against the current #4 and one of the three remaining undefeated teams in the nation.
What did you want this season against a top 3 schedule? 10 and 2? If we end up 7 and 5 I would think Hawk would be considered a damn fine coach. If not for Mangino and the Mizzou coach, he would be voted coach of the year.
2 wins to 7? Totally possible, and really, quite amazing.

Skye, you make good points. You must be a lawyer. And I do not mean that as an insult. No one wants to see a winner more than me. However, as an amatuer student of the game, it does not take a genius to see the areas of needed improvement.
If I can see it, why can’t the coaching staff? And why can’t they throw to the middle of the field? or even a WR bubble screen? Why must every play look like they an extra 100lbs on their back? Cody does a lousy job of managing the game and the fault goes to the coaches. And yes, I would love to see more Blue Chippers come aboard, but with out a strong armed QB, how are we going to get them the ball? Go back and read the prior post, but the last thing we need is no QB recruits this year to push Cody for his job.
AND LOOK AT THOSE MIZZOU FANS, POUNDING THEIR CHESTS LIKE THEY WON A BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIP. They will lose to Kansas…and you can print that!
November 5th, 2007 on 1:05 pm
As far as QB recruits go… What do you think Ballenger is doing? Everybody who sees him play against the 3rd stringers says he is the 2nd coming.
The problem is, he is RAW, as in he was a HS basketball star…
The kid supposedly has the tools, but he needs to know the offense and what to do in a Div1 football game first. That will come.
Next year the QB race is already going to be tight. Nelson will have a year under the offense, Cody will have another year in the strength program and a year of playing time under his belt…
You DO know that Cody is going to place somewhere in the top 3 all time in yards and TD’s right? As a freshman? Give him some time!
As far as the playcalling goes… The bubble screens are just not in the playbook as far as I can tell. Helfrich came from ASU, and I have never seen ASU or Boise do one. The passes up the middle don’t occur because the coaches don’t think he has the lanes. Teams consistently collapse the pocket up the middle, making it dangerous for Cody to do that. They make a point to do it in fact.
Should these things probably happen more often? yes. But I would give Hawk another year or 2 before pronouncing judgement.
November 5th, 2007 on 2:15 pm
Kid, You can’t be real, but I’ll pretend. Did it ever cross your mind that practically half of the offense is comprised of freshmen? In other words, none of the upperclassmen were good enough to compete with what was considered a generally average recruiting class. If you think you can “win championships” with 18 year olds at damn near every position and 3/4 of the team recruited for a different system, you’re on crack.
I am growing tired of “raw” QB’s, however. Under a mature program, Cody would generally not be starting, but he’s the best we’ve got right now and looks to be improving.
This will take 5 full years before judgement can be reasonably passed, and it looks to me like we’re ahead of schedule.

The word “Buffalo”, when singular, is spelled with no E at the end. Kid Buffaloe, enjoy your date with your sister tonight in Lincoln.
November 6th, 2007 on 8:46 am
Elway for president you are a loser, just like John. He would have been the Charles Barkley of the NFL, if it was not for TD. You obviously do not know what “winner” means. And you are obviously a fool because you have no football insight. Go back and look at Elways winning percentage in College. What a winner.
Duddman: and what the cupboard was bare going into 2006? Coming off a North Divsion title, even with that pathetic collapse, a PROVEN coach would have never had a 2-10 season. Think June Jones at powerhouse Hawaii. 5 years? You have got to be kidding. Maybe during your tenure at CU that would be acceptable, but for me, someone who has seen the pinnacle of CU’s success, its a lifetime. And that’s an interesting question? Why did CU Suck when you fools where at school? Maybe because you are poser fans whose Momma cradled you like a papoose on a nipple. Have some moose knuckles and call a spade a spade when it comes to CU Football. Your like children of alcoholics, making excuses for “Pa’s” puke at the dinner table. Freshman or not.
Skye, your the only one who has their sack in place. Wear your cup, they hit low. However, Bstate and ASU have used the B-screen. Who cares what they do, MAKE IT EASY FOR THE MIDGET.

JPizzle said it best….”BLEED BLACK AND GOLD or GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE!”
That’s all I care to add to this post.
