Kansas State (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) defeated CU (4-3, 2-1 Big 12) 47-20 last night in Manhattan. The Buffs were their own worst enemy by giving up 4 turnovers including 3 interceptions by freshman QB Cody Hawkins. While the Buffs were able to move the ball somewhat effectively, it was impossible to overcome all of the turnovers & mistakes. Also contributing to the Buffs’ loss were some questionable calls not to kick on 4th down.
The Buffs’ offense put up 411 yards of offense including a career high rushing day for Hugh Charles (171 yards). Colorado tried to keep the game in reach during the first half, but Kansas State capitalized on the turnovers to put the game out of reach in the third quarter.
I’m somewhat at a loss about what to say about this game. The Buffs were playing from behind the entire game and never had a chance to get a rhythm going. Hawkins threw some interceptions and threw some other passes that were clearly off the mark.
CU needs to put this game behind them and get ready for Kansas next Saturday in Boulder.
