As I predicted prior to the season, my poll is bouncing all over the place as I try to rank teams based on how I think they’ve performed. Unlike the national polls, I’m not going to rank teams and then only drop them if they lose. Teams are going to move up and down each week based on how they perform during that week. It’s even possible that idle teams will move based on the teams ranked around them (see USC). As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions. Some notes:
- Oklahoma is jumping up to #2 after dismantling Miami. They’d be #1 if LSU didn’t look like it belonged in the NFL.
- Wisconsin had the biggest drop of any non-losing team. It would have dropped further if any of the other teams ranked near it looked any good.
- 5 teams dropped out after losing. I have a hard time ranking a team that starts the season with a loss in one of it’s first two games. Tennessee gets the pass after losing respectably to Cal and then coming back with a decent win.
- #15 – 18 get big jumps up (or even in) after impressive victories. #19 – 21 are lucky to still be in after deserving to lose their games.
- South Florida gets a sniff after the win over Auburn. Probably short lived, but I said the same thing about Rutgers last year….
