Its that time again. Granted, the last one of these posts started a flame war more then anything else, but hey, fun is fun.
The game starts out a bit slow, with both teams having a bit of trouble getting started. The defenses bend, but do not break. That changes oh so fast. A tipped pass from Cody gets intercepted on the Buffs 46.
ASU takes the lead off a 7 yard pass from Rudy as ASU forgets their running game and calls 7 straight passing plays.
Less then two minutes later, CU answers as Cody flings a pass to Byron Ellis. The senior calmy hands the ball off to the Ref and jogs off the field.
Sadly, Carpenter rolls down the field again and has a 20 yard pass to a receiver on a fade route. Despite being blanketed by Mr. NFL Wheatley, the ASU bastardo pulls it in as the 1st quarter ends.
The rest below the fold, along with an intense finish!

CU goes three and out on the next series, and despite having to convert several 3rd and longs, ASU scores again on another long pass, this time to their 3rd string wide receiver!
The running game then revs up for CU. CU calls 8 straight running plays, and Sumler slams it in after a 8 minute drive to make it 21 to 14. The half ends as ASU is stopped by a heroic goal line stand on 4th and 1 by CU as Dizon bursts through the line and just DESTROYS Rudy.
The third quarter again starts out slow, with CU’s running game beginning to visibly tire ASU’s defense. However, after a field goal by Eberhart, ASU scores on a 2 minute drive that just shreds the secondary.
The fourth quarter begins with as another juggernaut of a drive continues, CU takes their time and just punishes ASU’s front 7 before Scotty Mcknight takes a WR Option pitch from Hawk and runs it in. The 2 point conversion fails as Cody is sacked on a play fake. Big Hawk then proceeds to chew the living hell out of his offensive line. Grimes makes them do sprints on the sideline.
The score with 11 minutes left in the game: CU 23, ASU 28.
ASU goes three and out after Brad Jones redeems himself with a crunching tackle on the outside for a 3 yard loss on 3rd down.
Little Hawk gets that cold gleam in his eye again that CSU knows well. He marches his team down the field before the opposition stiffens. 4th and 10 from the 11 after a holding penalty negates a 3rd down scoring run. Both of the Hawks smile.
THEY CALL THE SAME PLAY THEY DID ON THE 4th AND 4!! TO A 5’8 RECEIVER! Stephone Robinson comes down with it in the corner of the endzone. Pandemonium erupts. CU barely gets to the line in time, and they fail to convert the necessary 2 point conversion as Dusty “no hands” Sprague is left unmarked by ASU yet still fails to catch the ball that bounces off his hands in the back of the endzone.
Score with 5 minutes left: 29 to 28 CU.
The next play is a disastrous one. ASU returns it out to the 50 on a twisting, turning effort. The next play is even worse. NFL Wheatley picks a pass off and returns it for a touchdown, but CU is called for defensive holding by Brad Jones! ASU completes their next 4 passes and is on the CU 10. 2 minutes left. CU runs up to the line looking to blitz… and lets Rudy throw his 5th touchdown pass of the game ON PURPOSE. They then STUFF the 2 point conversion. ASU has a less then 2 yards per carry average.
2 minutes left, 34 to 29 ASU. Little Hawk gets the ball on his own 40 after another great return effort by NFL Wheatley.
CU moves it down to the 30 of ASU with a few nifty screens and runs, but at the price of losing 90 seconds of clock. 30 seconds left. Cody goes for the touchdown! In the hands of Scotty McKnight! on the 5! No Time outs left! the clock ticks down…. with 10 seconds left, Cody HANDS it OFF to Sumler. ASU was in a base defense due to the hurry up, and actually closes quickly and stops sumler for a 2 yard gain. Game over.
ASU wins by 5, 34 to 29. Yikes.
Is it still broken? Saturday will tell.:)
