Buffs.tv Blogpoll – Week 1
filed in Rankings on Sep.04, 2007
We’ve submitted our rankings following the first week of college football and you can find them below. There are a number of changes from our pre-season poll as I expected. Some notable items:
- LSU is our new #1 after their dominant performance on Thursday. I’m also impressed with USC, so this could be a short-lived ride at the top for the Tigers.
- Michigan (Yikes), Tennessee, and Florida State are out of our poll after losing in the first week. Tennessee may be able to climb back in as they lost to an impressive looking Cal team, but Michigan will have to put up some pretty impressive wins to even get back on the radar.
- After big wins on opening day, Nebraska, BC, and Georgia Tech join our poll starting at #22.
- Missouri and Auburn saw the most significant in-poll drops due to some unimpressive wins over weaker teams.
Note: I originally had Texas ranked #6, but dropped them after re-evaluating their dismal performance against Arkansas State.

Not bad- I’d have penalized Auburn, Texas and Virgina Tech more, but LSU looks to be the team to beat, despite a lackluster effort in their first game. That defense is SOLID. USC still a question mark (were they hiding their good stuff from NU?), and I think we’ll be surprised by an unexpectedly productive OU this year. OU-LSU rematch in the NC, with USC claiming some bogus “split NC”? I think I’ve seen this movie before…

I couldn’t drop Virginia Tech any more than I did based on all of the emotional stuff that went on there this week. It’s understandable if they were a little flat after all of the stories, memorials, and such. We’ll see starting this week if it was that stuff, or if they’re not as good as predicted. You’re right on Texas, though, and I’ve adjusted my poll as I hadn’t really thought them through (and I missed all of that game).
