Pregame Prediction by NCAA 2008
filed in Pre-game, Rivals on Aug.31, 2007
Hello and Good afternoon buff fans and buff haters (Why you are here is beyond me). The name is Skye, and I am the newest addition to the wonderful, talented, and most of all, trimmed with silver group that posts here. My first confession: I am a bit of a video game fanatic, especially when it comes to sport games. Having logged enough hours on my Xbox 360 playing NCAA 2008 to drive my girlfriend up the wall and through the roof, I thought a nice little opening feature would be the classic, well used, yet still fun, video game prediction contest. Lets just see if EA sports is what we should use for a betting guideline instead of the illustrious editorial staff of buffs.tv! If it is well received, I will try and make this weekly. Check below the fold for the prediction.
To the matter at hand: Scroll down for the final score.
We start out well and our defense puts up early with a safety in the 1st Quarter! However, we soon fall behind as the Rams pick off a Hawkins pass deep into our territory, but we hold strong and force them to make a 33 yard field goal.
The next few series are marred by 3 and outs for CU, while CSU turns over the ball a few times. We finally take advantage of the turnover and take the lead again as the HAWK burrows in on a QB keeper for a touchdown early in the 2nd. Things are looking swell until CSU drives and finishes off the half with a fullback run for a TD to retake the lead.
At halftime, the score sits 10 to 9 CSU, with CU moving up and down the field, but unable to convert key 3rd downs.
The third quarter starts badly. The offense stalls, and the CSU marches down the whole field before the red zone D holds them to a field goal.
The whole stadium then EXPLODES as the Hawk finds Hugh for a 46 yard touchdown pass.
Sadly, less then a minute later, CSU responds with a touchdown pass of their own.
20 to 16 CSU going into the 4th.
The freshman finally looks himself. A bad pass by Hawk gets intercepted. 4 plays later, CSU scores to go up 27 to 16.
Hawk looks to make up for his mistake and quickly moves CU down the field as our running game (having racked up almost 150 yards) is now forgotten. Charles scores again on another long pass! Then Charles slams his way into the endzone for 2 points, doing his best impression of Lawrence Vickers to a hapless CSU safety on the way in.
CSU goes three and out! The fans are feeling it. Mile high is rockin. Unfortunately, on a 4th and 8 from the CSU 40 (oh how we miss a certain kicker!), Hawk is sacked as CSU throws the house at him and none of the WR’s make it open in time.
CSU runs the clock out. Game. We lose! The sad score is 27 to 24 as the Rams hold off a 4th Quarter rally by the buffs.
Booo! On a happier note, in the franchise that I actually play in, CSU loses on a pick 6 in the last minute of the game as a certain senior corner cements his status as an NFL player and CU wins 24 to 17.
Which do you think is more likely? I know what I think:)

Well, obviously… there’s something wrong with your version of NCAA Football 08. EA Sports should refund your money!

Would you please write me a cover letter to EA sports?

man i love that cannon
September 1st, 2007 on 1:49 pm
how bout that cannon now? I do believe crow is on the menu, and if CSU is this close again during Little hawks reign as CU QB, I will eat it.

even when cu won that was a great game dissapointing but great. cu deserves credit for hanging in there

Way to Go Buffs! Nice to see that Colorado can barely beat in overtime a team with 8 losses and no bowl last season. Talk about a battle of the light weights… Yet a win is a win, so way to go Buffettes. Entertaining to see y’all celebrate such a big feat. Hey Gampp how bout that 42 point Husker spread? What were you saying the other day? Umm yeah, that’s what I thought. Hope you’re enjoying your first of many crow burgers tonight…

BSMC, you left your lube at my house last night and the wife found it. I guess that’s what I get for using the west coast offense on the worlds dumbest husker fan.
PS Stop calling me at home.

BSMC… I think you will find CSU is a little better team then Nevada, and if I remember correctly, back in 2001 we even LOST to CSU…. And then crushed a certain team in red 62 to 36… Wonderful world aint it?

Um Skye?… I think you are starting to show the intelligence of some of your bretheren here. Nevada smoked Colorado State last year on September 16 28-10. They also won 8 games and actually went to a “bowl” where they lost a nailbiter to Miami by 1 point. You probably should at least attempt to gather some facts before you make an absurd statement (I know however that does not come easily to most Buffs fans, but you can do it…)!

BSMC,
For your family’s sake, please shut up. You are showing your obvious genetic inferiority.
Thank you,
The Husker Nation

Always a reply with no facts, no intelligent counter-points, etc. All you have is name-calling and a sad sad attempt to completely ignore all of the reality that is CU Football. It would be easier to respect you guys if you knew anything, and I mean anything about the sport. Oh well, college football does need at least one of it’s fan bases to be the most ignorant, and the best representatives of trailerpark America who excel at the only things the black and gold are good at, i.e. tire-slashing, throwing things at the opponent, talking smack with nada to back it up, yada yada yada…

Back to school, BS – your English comprehension is so poor that I doubt that even NU will accept you. UNO for you, biotch!

How exactly so Strunk? Did not Skye just post that CSU is a better team than Nevada? You try to slam me because I point out the obvious proof that refutes such a ridiculous statement? You’re a joke… You talk about comprehension? More than a little ironic coming from you, eh?

“I think you will find CSU is a little better team then Nevada”
HE WAS NOT TALKING ABOUT LAST YEAR, CORNHICK!!!!! It’s a prediction (as indicated by the word “will”) – an opinion (as indicated by the use of the phrase “I think”) of what will transpire THIS season.
Back to your hole! Your unthinking blather bores me.

BSMC… see above post. This is not last year (obviously… we have already nearly matched last years win total!)…
Last year, CSU had no running game. Not a single back ran for a 100 yards the whole YEAR, and that was in the Mountain Weak conference. If Kyle Bell stays healthy, you will see a very different year for CSU.
Besides ignoring the actual meaning of my sentence, you also seemed to ignore the part where NU got its but kicked by CU after losing to CSU. So are you gonna cherry pick your evidence as well?
Also, get ready. The big boys are coming to Nebraska very soon. If you even make a game of it with USC, I will let you start talking. Boasting about beating up minnows is the talent of bully’s. If I remember correctly, NU hasn’t done much lately. Hell, how many times have you guys won the big 12 North in this century? Or the Big 12?
The Nebraska program is a good one. But its a far cry from the dominant one that existed last century. Sorry, welcome to parity. Now stop being so full of yourself!
September 3rd, 2007 on 6:37 pm
Skye, are you serious about hanging on to the 2001 CU-NU game? That is so unbelievably sad. On the one hand you portend to talk about the “present”, while you cling to one game 6 years ago. If you want to look at historical precedent, how about CU losing 9 of the last 12 to NU or the record of 47-17-2 overall? Nebraska is more than a “good” program this year. Yes the Huskers have had to reinvent a whole new system under Callahan. Every year has gotten better and better and better. Nebraska led Texas until the final seconds of the game last year and would have beaten Auburn without a worthless kicker in Congdon (a hole they have since filled in case you didn’t watch the game on Saturday). I watched the CU-CSU game in it’s entirety. Unimpressive. Little Hawk is short and slow, and your offensive line will get destroyed by every Big 12 defense maybe short ISU.
As for parity, please take notice of the last 3 years of recruiting under BC. The talent in place this year is far far above “average” and next year will be even better. This year’s Huskers are big and fast pretty much across the board on both sides of the ball. Your Buffs are in for a major ass-kicking come Thanksgiving (yet again)…
September 3rd, 2007 on 7:54 pm
For those of you having trouble following the good Husker’s point, I have taken the time to translate BSMC-Huskersquawk into English. And now, for some BSMC babelfish.
Statment: “Skye, are you serious about hanging on to the 2001 CU-NU game?…”
Translation: “Please don’t bring up the last seven years. They are painful for me to remember.”
Statement: “Nebraska is more than a ‘good’ program this year.”
Translation: “I really, really wish Nebraska was more than ‘good’ this year.”
Statement: “Yes, the Huskers have had to reinvent a whole new system under Callahan.
Translation: “I realize the Huskers have sucked under Callahan, but look- there’s a new system!”
Statement: “Every year has gotten better and better and better.”
Translation: “When you suck that bad, it takes a lot of ‘betters’ to reach mediocrity.”
Statement: “Nebraska led Texas…”
Translation: “Texas won.”
Statement: “…would have beat Auburn”
Translation: “Auburn won.”
Statement: “…without a worthless kicker…”
Traslation: “Our kicker was just as bad as the rest of our team.”
Statement: “I watched the CU-CSU game in it’s entirety.”
Translation: “I have a TV. I’m not as backwards as you people think.”
Statement: “…please take not of the last three years of recruiting under BC.”
Translation: “Make sure you look now, because after he chokes again, we’re going to fire his ass and hire Lloyd Carr.”
Statement: “This year’s Huskers are big and fast…”
Translation: “I know, I say this every year, and they still suck, but this year I MEAN it.”

Hey… congrats on that 9 of the last 12. Now, please repeat back to me the number of big 12 north championships you have won in this decade? or big 12 championships? Face it, NU hasn’t accomplished ANYTHING in a long while besides last years big 12 north championship in the WORST year for the big 12 north ever.
Will you please pretty please stop ignoring the obvious point that oh so many pundits and everyone NOT you acknowledges? that this rivalry game is NOT indicative of CU’s performance for the year. That is why I keep bringing up that 2001 game versus NU. Not to “cling” to it…. though it does make me warm at night:). As it is also basically the last time that game was nationally relevant, please tell me why we should ignore it?

I have to agree with bsmc..
CSU is a low level mediocre team that outplayed CU last weekend..
Look at the stats, CSU had more offense, more defense and if it wasn’t for the bad call on an ball thrown out of bounds they would have lost..(not to mention the several no calls on the CU defense on pushing off the CSU receivers)…
Hawkins is now 3-10, wins over ISU, CSU and TT…
woooooooo!!! impressive….

“I have to agree with bsmc..”
You just lost all credibility. Nothing you say matters.

Dr. Tom, there is a reason you got kicked out of the colorado daily comment boards…. go troll somewhere else. A safer opponent maybe? One that your not scared of ?
