Discuss: Hugh Charles
filed in Depth Chart on Aug.02, 2007
We have all expected great things from Hugh Charles since day one, but everything has not quite come together for him yet. Whether it was due to play calling or sharing too many carries, Hugh has just not been the back we know he can be. This year he will likely be splitting carries with Byron Ellis and Demtrius Summler. That aside, will he show us something special this year?

He had a great freshman year then struggled since. I know I was hoping PT Gates would come in and really push Hugh for the starting job, but now it looks like PT won’t be here until January and our running game might be stalled. I am worried that Hugh will wear down again if he is forced to be the every down back. I don’t think Ellis has ever showed anything special so hopefully Summler can step up and maybe a few carries for BJax to keep Hugh fresh.

Thanks PT Gates and Thomas Perez. How hard is it to qualify? Why even look at them if they borderline. Reggie Bush clone or not, where are the Chris Brown’s and Cortlen Johnsons of the world? We need to look at K-State, and hire their admissions people. I sure hope those jokers (Gates/Perez) realize how many people (their Family, fans, coaches) they have let down.

Regarding Hugh Charles…He was in the doghouse somehow last year. Even that idiot Shawn Watson had him lineup in the slot position, to take advantage of his speed. Look back at the Texas AM game from 2 years ago. He ripped ‘em. But the
O-line was much better then. What happend to screen passes? We need an “Eric Ball” (look him up) to come off the bench and be a surprise.

PT Gates’ school does not finish until mid August, so the thinking has been that he would not play this year regardless because it takes a few weeks for all the grades to come in and get to CU. I for one would rather have tougher admissions and get true student athletes rather than let anyone in just to win some games. We are a university first, we must not forget this.

Hugh is an awesome back. However, the staff is having some issues with him still. The guy makes one mistake and he is in the doghouse. Other guys make several mistakes in numerous games and they still play. This guy run’s his tail off in four games and still he get’s no respect. What’s up?
He is lucky he is a senior.

Hugh, see you on Sunday nights. You are a great football player and more than that you are a great guy. It’s unfortunate the new staff came in building a team around QB’s and not RB’s like you. You’ve proven yourself to be the go to guy at CU with five 100+ yards, yet you still are pulled in and out at the Big 12 level. Even Adrian Peterson fumbled or was hurt, yet his coaches never thought twice to punish him each and every time. You got a good head on your shoulder and you should be proud of your career at CU. History will prove that the current staff had issues in using you. It is unfortunate you are at the college level and you have to participate in daddy ball directly or indirectly. Be thankful it is your last year at CU. CU will miss you. I am sure it’s not your last year playing football.
My family has nothing but deep respect for you because of the way you are on and off the field. I read Emmitt Smith was who you followed, well it shows. Keep up the good work and don’t sweat the small stuff. Hope they let you run against those red guys.
Go Buffs!

Well, CU finally let this guy play his game. As I said before time would tell with his game. This guy hopefully will be seen on Sunday’s with minimal thanks to the Hawk staff.
Hugh, daddy ball is over now it’s time for you to play ball with the big boys again. At least GB had respect for you. Let’s see what CU will do next year when the stars like you are gone. There were at least three games CU could have won if they had let you get your groove on. Nevertheless, you guys went through a lot but left as gentlemen and great football players.
You are a great guy to know and watch on and off the field. Here is wishing you much success as you move forward. Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh
Go Buff!
