Game Day – Sooners
filed in Game Day on Oct.21, 2006
Well, in their last 12 tries the Buffs have been unable to beat a ranked opponent. Ouch Gary, that stat really smarts. Perhaps today will be lucky 13. Like the rest of the season I expect the Buffs to be in this one until the end. Perhaps witha little confidence stirring from last week the Buffs will leave on top.
BTW Buffs.tv Editor Hawk will be in Norman this weekend. He promises “If we beat them, I’m rushing the field and streaking the quad.”
One more side note. The Huskers play Texas today, their second game versus a ranked opponent this season. This is the Buffs fifth game versus opponnets who have been ranked this season.

Go Buffs! Bring it.

You know, if Nebraska moved to the MWC then they might not have to play a ranked team all season….Brilliant!

Go Buffs!!
That is Brilliant! I am pissed, Fox Sports Detroit has delayed the broadcast of the game until 3:00 AM today to their broadcast area. Why is it delayed you might ask? Becuase they want to have the weekly Redwings show. I hate Fox Sports, I hate Detroit!!!

arg, our play calling is uninspired and Wheatly has got to make a play on the ball especially in the end zone.

Well, that’s it for bowl hopes this year…crap. Oh well, if you asked me if I’d rather have our same old squad and be 5-3 right now rather than having undergone a coaching (and philosophy) shift, I’d still take the current situation. Hawkins is planning for the long-term and I’m behind him; he’s doing it right and I know he’ll get it done in the end. I’m not going anywhere and will be here to route the guys on (win or loose) until we get everything flowing smoothly and unleash the beast.
Props to OU. That’s one hell of a deffense and they certainly deserved to win today.

Does anybody else miss Coach Barnett? I know I sure do! We should have signed him to a contract extention for at least 4 years! Give him one more class to work with. I am still sour about losing him and the next team that picks him up is very lucky in my opinion. Bring back Barnett! Suck it up CU and admit you got all gung ho about the 53-10 record that Hawkins posted at Boise State. Was it really him? They seem to be doing well without him. Horrible performance yesterday, at least we didnt get shut out. This 1-7 performance is unacceptable and no matter what anybody says, Barnett would not have let it get that bad! I remember many times him getting fired up on the sidelines when things were not going the Buffs way. I have not seen that from Hawkins yet. Where is the passion from him? I thought we might be able to salvage a .500 year, but thats not going to happen now. Bring Barnett back is all I have to say! GO BUFFS!

Fifth ranked opponent? ASU (not in the top 25 now)sucks and Georgia should not be in the top 25. Besides Missouri, who else? Tech wasn’t ranked at the time cu played them and neither was Baylor. Quit trying to prop up cu’s less than stellar schedule, dumbass.

I agree with 98 Buff. At least we play one or two ranked non-conference opponents every year! How many times does NU do that? I have seen once in the past 5 years! (@USC this year and they got it handed to them) I still say bring Barnett back! GO BUFFS!

To clarify the Buffs have played
ASU, Georgia, Missouri, Texas Tech, Oklahoma all teams that have been ranked this year. They still will play Nebraska. Meaning that will play 6 teams that have been ranked this year
The Huskers have played USC and Texas both ranked teams. They still will play Missouri and Texas A&M. Meaning that they will play 4 teams that have been ranked this year.
That’s the facts nothing more and nothing less

Hey Marc? What was offensive in that last post? I’d like to know exactly. There was nothing profane about it. Nothing. I was just giving the facts.

To quote… “BSMC – Are you kidding me bro? Take a look around man, we’re still taking our lumps like men. People only get banned when they get off subject with their comments. We’re here to discuss the football, good and bad, not just hammer away with trash talk for no reason. Hey, you guys have Sierra Nevada Pale Ale out there? I’m gettin’ thirsty!”
Ok, how is this “off subject” or profane?!? This post is EXACTLY the subject that the Buff fans on this site brought up to begin with. Exactly.

BSMC,
True your comment starts off to be well-informed and in good nature
“I’m sorry again…. Who have the Buffs played that is “ranked” again? Your schedule is far from impressive. The truly funny part is that you have gotten killed by everyone except for Texas Tech and they are definitely in competition with CU for the worst team in the Big 12. So what exactly is your point? It should be noted that Nebraska has played 2 TOP 5 teams in the country (that’s a hell of a lot different than ASU or Georgia). How many Top 5 teams has CU played? Yes the Huskers got beat by USC but they played the hell out of Texas and by rights should have beat them last weekend. The likelihood is that there will be a rematch for the Big 12 title. And playing Texas for 4 full quarters will be a little better representation of the North than 70-3. In addition Nebraska plays both Texas A&M and Missouri, both “ranked” teams by your standards.”
Up until now everything you have has been truthful and completely acceptable. Then your comment goes a bit off track. Drawing completely unrelated conclusions from the above information. Yes, the Buffs have lost seven games so far and they will probably lose more, but that has nothing to do with whether their opponents were ranked or not. In a conversation regarding strength of schedule bringing up past Heisman winners is absurd.
“Word of advice, Buffs really really shouldn’t go around criticizing other team’s schedules this year when you got beat by a Div 2 school, CSU, and Baylor. Georgia and ASU are a total joke too. Once again do we need a history lesson in how many ranked teams and specifically how many Top 10 teams Nebraska has beaten compared to CU? Didn’t think so. How about how many National Titles, Conference Titles, Heisman trophy winners, etc.? Didn’t think so either.”
Finally you comment ends in a slew of insults aimed at not only the Buffs, but also the editors of this site. There is no reason that this comment needs to be posted on this site. BSMC, I have grown tired of your banter.

Marc, I understand your point although I could truly care less if you are tired of “my banter”. First of all the people on this site including yourself throw together slew after slew of cheap insults directed at the Huskers continually. We could delve into your archives to demonstrate the point if you wish. I’ll bet I could find a hundred derogatory comments about cow-humping, tractor driving, inbreds, etc. Yeah that’s really “on subject” when talking about your football program. Secondly this whole discussion was brought on by several obnoxious, unsolicited, and provacative attempts at slamming Nebraska. Fact. If you guys think you have the balls to throw the trashing talking that you have thrown over and over and over again in my 2-3 years following this site, then you should at least be men and take a little of what you sow.
Ryno, I understand what you are saying about people here getting tired of being beaten down when your team is transitioning and rebuilding. We Huskers have been there and done that. But when Callahan came in and went 7-7 his first season you guys were all relentless in kicking us when we were down. If you really want to call our relationship a “rivalry” then why can’t your guys take what you were so willing to dish out just a couple of years ago? Remember all of your predicitions that NU was going to plummet into the abyss and never ever return. Well guess what, we’re back! And let’s face it, 7-7 would be a sailor’s wet dream for the Buffs this year.
In conclusion, I’m looking forward to hanging out with Ryno and his new wife. He is at least reasonable and has earned my respect. Marc, you’re welcome to come along to Lincoln and witness a program that has more class than the Buffs could ever dream of. Not just my opinion, but that of the entire college football world. You can rest assured we won’t slash your tires, beat you up, threaten your women and children or belittle you with disrespectful gimmicks. And yes like every week in Memorial stadium it is an absolute fact that your team will be applauded on their way off the field, win or lose. Something that has never happened as far as I’m aware at Folsom.
