Texas Tech Post Game
filed in Post-game on Oct.15, 2006
343 days….finally, we finally broke the chain of losses. Let me begin by giving props to the team on all sides of the ball; offense, defense and special teams. Texas Tech, a team with a 31.7-point average, was held to just 31 yards rushing and one touchdown. This was the first time since 1999 that Tech was shut our through three quarters. An unlike the multiple prophesiers who said Georgia didn’t bring their game, well Tech did and they got spanked.
We are seeing a change in the tide. CU has had a tough run and with just a couple of different plays could be 4-3. Today they proved that they have the determination, courage and talent to play successful football.
First, let me congratulate the coaches. Since the departure of coach Mac, our team has been one big disorganized blob on the sidelines. Hawk has brought a system where play call is efficient and cohesive. Their play call was great on both sides, except for being greedy at the beginning with going for it on 4th down. Luckily Hawk remembered Mason for the 56, 53 and 26 yard hits.
Offensive player goes to…well this is tough for a good reason. Everyone played well and did their job. Jackson showed leadership and determination with two passing touchdowns and returning from a big hit late in the first half. He was 11-17 for 151 yards. Rier Geer is turning into a well-seasoned tight end and hats off to Maurice Cantrell and Jarrell Yates. Huuuuugh had a great day with 119 yards, averaging 7 yards per carry. Finally the offense is clicking.
Defense player goes to…..again a tough call. Props to Walter Boye-Doe and Thaddeus Washington, but I have to give special light to Terrence Wheatley. Tech is the quintessential pass offense. Our corners have always been weak and we needed a great performance, which is exactly what we received. Great job!
With all of this good cheer, I do want to say we are still 1-6. In terms of Buffalo football history, this is nothing to be proud of. While we played well, there is still a lot of work to do. Play execution, accurate passes, missed tackles there is plenty to improve upon. I would like to see Patrick Williams catch a pass, and pass rush needs work. The Tech QB had all day to throw. Luckily all were covered well. The team did great, this is what they needed and they certainly deserved it with their play today, but don’t get cocky guys. Keep up the discipline and fight and we might come out of this year with four or five more wins.
My final note, I think we witnessed history. The Buffaloes had ZERO penalties. I can’t find a game on record where that occurred. Again a change in the tide. Being a Buffs fan, penalties are a constant hindrance. No false starts, no holds….it can’t be, someone pinch me. Only a well disciplined, well coached team does something like that…..watch out Sooners!

Great job Buffs! It’s good to see it finally come together. If the improvements continue a solid foundation for a successful next season should be established. Good game guys!

I have been one of the people who have jumped in here and given CU fans a hard time…but I have to give it up….congrats on getting in the win column. I think CU fans are going to learn to truly appreciate and respect the next time they reach a high level of success….which isn’t going to happen for a couple of years…but let’s face it, it will happen. It will be interesting to see how many W’s the Buffs end up with….my bet is 2 (and no, NU will not be one of them)

Well congrats Buffs! You looked good out there Saturday. Yes, and thanks coach for taking the men to a movie and not just beating the crap out of them prior to a Big 12 game. Kindness can adjust attitudes too. Keep them balanced and the team will be in rythem to win. It obvious that being in balance helped us a achieve a record setting reduction of penalities + a win.
Hawk, you better have your fastest guys on the field at all times on Saturday. OU and Texas are monsters in size and speed.
Go Buffs! Oklahoma is yours.
