Sixth Week Buffs.tv Top-25 Poll
filed in Rankings on Oct.10, 2006
Our sixth poll has been submitted for this year’s BlogPoll. Husker fan will be relieved that Nebraska is back in our Top-25, although I still expect comments telling me I’m an idiot for not having them higher. Beat Missouri in a couple of weeks and I promise a bigger move up. I’ve had to base the poll this week on game reports as I’m out of the country and didn’t get to see any of the games. Losses by some top teams shuffled the top ten, which is exciting after the stagnation over the last couple of weeks. Enjoy.

Gampp,
First of all congratulations on finishing graduate school. I know what a tough well deserved accomplishment that is. I’m sure you’re an intelligent guy although your football rankings certainly don’t reflect any of that.
My only comment to you this week is that despite having many non Big 12 teams way overranked, having Missouri and Oklahoma ranked ahead of Nebraska does not make a lot of sense considering the fact that Nebraska is ranked #1 in the conference in most offensive catagories including total offense.
However your poll this week is slightly more reasonable than your earlier polls this year. Maybe there is hope for you yet!

Just out of curiosity where do the soon to be 0-7/0-11 Buffs rank in your scheme of things?
October 11th, 2006 on 2:20 pm
Now that is a great question! It’s a given that we will finish in the bowels of the big 12, but where do we fit in nationally? Top 10 of the worst teams in Div I-A? Top 5?

I say CU is THE WORST D-1 team from any major conference for sure!

Missouri ranks well ahead of Nebraska in every defensive category, and is not all that far behind in offense…so why should Nebraska be ranked higher?

Gampp, Nebraska should be ranked higher in your poll just so we can stop these moronic Husker fans from complaining about it. Arbor Day Stinks!

Iowa boy calles us moronic while he keeps talking about how much the Buffs are improving and how great they’re gonna be. Every week is “this is the week” the Buffs will win. The person without the facts, Iowa Buff is the moron. Look in the mirror. You guys are such pathetic LOSERS. 0-10, 0-10. Go Red Raiders!

0-10 soon to be 0-16 Buffs, “a force to reckon with”! Nice.

Papa, actually according the Big 12 website Nebraska leads the conference statistically in 5 catagories, Missouri in 3. Nebraska ranks in the top 3 of the conference in 16 catagories, Missouri in only 11. Missouri and Nebraska are definitely the top 2 teams in the North. I don’t really care which you rank higher, we’ll find out when they play each other. Meanwhile the Buffs will still be 12th in the Big 12 this year.

Nebraska ranks first in offense in the Big 12 North that is a fact. That’s neat. Let’s see… LA Tech, Nicholls State, Troy, Kansas, and Iowa State. All powerhouse defenses!!! Against USC you didn’t look like an amazing offense.
As far as the Buffs are concerned, I have contended all along that this is a rebuilding year. That means you will lose games because it is a new system and you will make mistakes. I don’t care that the Buffs are 0-6 right now, it’s going to take two or three years to right this ship if not longer. As for not having the facts, that is a stupid comment. I am optimistic that we will be a much better team in week 12 than we were in weeks 1-6. Not world beaters, but better. That’s called guarded optimism – and I would challenge that all the Nebraska fans who are touting the Huskers as being back show a little bit of guarded optimism. We’ll see how you fair against Texas – that will be serve as a barometer for how good you are. The only team ranked that you’ve played handled you pretty roughly, so please spare us your idiotic diatribes about how you should be ranked 19th instead of 22nd… let the season unfold and then start bitching.
I still think Arbor Day is stupid.

Iowa Buff, I feel you man. You hit it on the head – this is a rebuilding year, and it doesn’t necessarily mean that it will only take a year. I agree with you – this is a multi-year process. Every team in the Big 12 has gone through it – UT, OU, even Nebraska. NU was dominant in the 90′s, but fell some earlier this decade. They are now getting to be a great team again. Same with Texas and OU. We used to spank UT and OU in the early 90s without even worrying about them. Now look where they are. It will just take some time. I think the Big 12 is the best conference for power football, and I enjoy watching Big 12 teams beat other schools during bowl season. However, we do have many delusional fans who still think we have a chance this year, to which I must say “wake up, you’re kidding yourself!” Tell ‘em what it is, Iowa Buff!

Actually, point of clarification… Nebraska is ranked 1st in the entire Big 12 in offense, not just the North. And Iowa Buff is the one who keeps talking about the Buffs this year being a team to be “reckoned with”. To even suggest that CU has a chance against a vastly improved Big Red, in Lincoln of all places, is more than “guarded optimism”, more like guarded stupidity.
