Dismal Performance
filed in Post-game on Sep.05, 2006
Buffs.tv is not very good at wrapping up bad performances. We do pretty good with the mediocre to great games, but it is hard to get up to post about just plain bad football. To sum up the Buffs were out-hussled, out-physicaled, out-tackled, out-toughened, out-coached and out-played. I know those are not all words and they do very little to account for what happened at Folsom field on Saturday.
I came away with one point of note from the weekend. Coach Hawkins did not once mention that the cause of the problem was Gary Barnett’s recruits. That is nothing but an excuse and offers nothing but further humiliation for the current Buffs. We have at least eleven more games to play this season and have to find something to build on.

Not to be overly optimistic, but there were some bright spots in the Buffs play last weekend. Obviously, that 42-yard pass was nice (first play)… and the defense did tighten up with a couple goal line stands. I think if the Buffs make some adjustments this week… they’ll be hard to beat.
Let’s see how Hawkins rallies the troops – Go Buffs!

I was at the OU/UAB game and was shocked to see the Colorado score. If you could pin point one problem for the Buffs what would it be?
September 5th, 2006 on 9:58 pm
Easy – confidence. The players are plenty good enough to win lots of games this year, if they believe that they can. Unfortunately, it’s a tough one to fix. We’ll just have to give it time.

Which is more embarrassing for Buffs:
a) being pummeled on national T.V. for over 70 points (by 3rd Qtr)by a great Texas team?
or
b) being out muscled by a Div. IAA team out of Montana and being called wimps on Sports talk media the day after?

I think Boise may have found the reason for there sucess over the past several years was not the Hawk but coach Pete.

First off dont be so hard on Hawkins, Anyone see what Callahan did at Nebraska his fist year.[um ya not impressive] How about his second year 320 yards a game is awsome, it’ll take at least 2 years for the buffs to return to the way of old.
I’m still going to hate the buffs but give dan some respect.
Remember what Callahan said after the Kansas game “you can only do so much with what you have to work with”

Asking which loss is more embarrassing (Texas 70, Colorado 3 – or Montana State 19, Colorado 10) is like asking which hurts more… getting kicked in the left nut, or the right one? They both hurt… and both losses are equally embarrassing – at least that’s how I see it.

How does that NU prediction look now? I live in Omaha, Neb and from one husker hater to another..you might not reach 4 wins this season..
September 6th, 2006 on 11:02 am
I don’t care if we go 0-fer going into the Nebraska game, if we beat the Huskers in Lincoln I will consider this a successful season.

Buff in Iowa,
It takes some serious brain dysfunction to still be talking about the Buffs being capable of playing with the Huskers this year. Nebraska is LOADED with speed and talent on both sides of the ball. They can run and throw and have mastered a complex offense that is rich with options. Zac Taylor is certainly one of the most underestimated quarterbacks in the nation. The stable of I-backs, receivers, and tight ends are very very fast and powerful. They will literally trample the hapless Buffs. Regardless of what may or may not happen against USC or Texas, Nebraska will blow out the Buffs by 50 plus points. Guaranteed. Hope to see you at the bloodbath!

I was crushed. However, I followed the Buffs over the previous spring and all summer. I thought they would win, but I didn’t think they would shine. To lose to a team that didn’t even expect to win is worse than being punched in the gut. I will keep the faith because one day Hawk is going to bring a National Championship back to Boulder. Hopefully now the Buffs will take football seriously and play for some respect.

Go Buffs!
September 6th, 2006 on 8:20 pm
BSMC, you need to put down that bong. Nebraska has a decent team this year, not a great one. That secondary is going to get picked apart by every half decent team they play. Hopefully, for your sake, they’ll be able to keep up with what looks to be a pretty good offense.
USC will crush Nebraska by more than Texas will, and both will be nationally televised beat downs, and both will have the mighty huskers doubting themsleves and thier coach long before the Buffs show up. Think it can’t happen? Just look at the Buffs today, or the Huskers after that 62-36 rout in ’01.
Don’t be so cocky. I thought Nebraska fans were supposed to be classy. (By the way I’ve been in the stadium in Lincoln when Neb was losing, and trust me, the fans there are NOT classy.)
September 6th, 2006 on 9:50 pm
Hey at least we made ESPN.com’s bottom 10. We’re #2!!!
September 7th, 2006 on 1:20 pm
Duffyman, what does boasting about your team have to do with not being classy? This is college football. Being not classy involves slashing tires, starting fights, throwing bottles, swearing at children, etc., not pointing out the positives about your team. Do you need a refresher in interpreting the English language?
Nebraska’s team this year is much better than ‘decent’, and they are infinitely better than the pathetic buffs. Even if Nebraska does get beat by USC and/or Texas (I emphasize IF), no one in Huskerland will be calling for Callahan’s head. Both of those teams are Top 5 teams if not the best 2 teams in the country, in case your inability to read English has prevented you from recognizing that small distinction. That’s a whole different type of loss than getting thrashed by a D-1AA powerhouse like Montana State.
And no I will not put down that bong, I should recommend that you guys starting picking one up, you are sure as hell gonna need something to get through your almost winless season. And it might help your classless fans in Boulder not to be so ridiculously violent and obnoxious!
September 7th, 2006 on 1:27 pm
“And no I will not put down that bong, I should recommend that you guys starting picking one up”
BSMC, this statement clearly demonstrates that you know nothing of Boulder or it’s fans. You have been exposed. Please go pop your corn on a board that cares.
September 7th, 2006 on 2:00 pm
Iomabuff,
I have been a die hard Big 8/Big XII fan my entire life. And I have been to Boulder for many many games over the years. I know far too much about CU Football and their fans. And if you are trying to say that Boulder does not have any hippie/stoner culture you are obviously insane. I just wish I could understand why your fans continue to be year after year so hatefilled and obnoxious and violent and everything corrupt it college ball.
September 7th, 2006 on 7:29 pm
Seriously, is there not a Husker website? I’m sick and tired of reading about Husker this and Husker that. Freakin’ Husker fans come out of the woodwork when they win a ballgame, but disappear like cockroaches when the going gets tough. See any people walking around with NU hats or t-shirts over the last 2 years? Negative. Didn’t see a single Nebraska fan ANYWHERE after they lost to Kansas. I will continue to rep and support my Buffaloes, I’m just so damn sick and tired of reading shit from NU fans on this page. Find your own website, and you might also start looking for a good pair of shoes so you don’t hurt your feet when you jump off the bandwagon.
September 8th, 2006 on 6:54 am
Hey Kevin,
I have never in my life heard of a bandwagon Husker fan. Almost all Huskers fans live and breathe it their entire lives, win or lose, great season or bad. You are an even bigger idiot than I thought to even try and characterize it any other way. As for us showing up every year on your site, maybe if you were not the hatefilled pricks that you are we would be more inclined to show you some respect like OU or Texas. But because of your locker room codes, toy hammers, pregame taunting at midfield, fans slashing tires, throwing bottles, and starting fights… you trailerpark buffs deserve everything you get!
September 8th, 2006 on 1:58 pm
BSMC… you are a joke.
Saying that the Buffs and their fans are trailer-trash is hysterical, especially coming from someone in Nebraska. There are more upperclass rich students people at CU then in the entire state of Nebraska. You’re team represents the uneducated white trash of middle America… I am suprised you even have a computer.
September 8th, 2006 on 2:05 pm
OK, BS, you’re right. Keep the bong. You need to chill the hell out. Come back after the USC game and let us know how the blackshirts did. Hopefully by then reallity will have set in in huskerland and you wont be so high strung. Seriously, your blood pressure must be astronomical.
Buff fans, here’s one to make you chuckle: I was in Lincoln last year for a game and saw the funniest T-shirts ever made – they said simply: “I Bleed Husker Red.”
Priceless. I wonder how many husker fans are reading that last paragraph and have no idea why it’s funny.
September 8th, 2006 on 2:42 pm
BuffTrash,
You guys are funny. “Nebraska represents the white trash of middle America”? Clearly you know nothing of Nebraska or it’s people. I am certain that you are not one of those “upperclass rich students” you sound much more like another one of the bottle-throwing, tire slashing, drunk, cretan pricks that I KNOW make up the majority population of your beloved CU. If your student population is so “upperclass” then how do you explain all of the idiots cleared from your stadium on national television last November? Hmmm didn’t look too “upperclass” to me or anyone else in the nation for that matter. And if your school is so much “richer” than the University of Nebraska why is it that your facilities are not even a fraction of the facilities at NU? Hmmm that must mean you guys are spending all of your money on prostitutes, drugs, and defense lawyers. Clearly that recruiting approach for your school hasn’t worked out that well either lately. BTW, what were Colorado’s last few recruiting classes ranked? It is pretty evident watching you get bitch slapped by a d-2 school.
So once again, Trailerpark Buffs, you are the scum of college football and everyone in the country knows it. Sorry to disappoint you.
September 8th, 2006 on 2:46 pm
As for the blood pressure, Duffyman, you must not be reading all of the ridiculously defensive Buffs posts on this site in the past week. Talk about a heart attack waiting to happen. After just one week you guys sound a mess. By the end of the season I think many of your fans just may not make it
September 8th, 2006 on 7:27 pm
No way dude. The scum of college football title has been passed on. I will freely admit that it was CU in recent times – the now purged program was in terrible condition both on and off the field.
It now probably belongs to Texas (Romance Taylor, Brown’s recent gun issues). Or maybe OU. You think Peterson would have been kicked of the team for doing what Bomar did? Not likely…
September 8th, 2006 on 8:19 pm
I have personally never chunked a bottle or slashed a tire, nor have I been in the company of those who have. Seriously, can we block this idiot from the website? He’s really getting on my nerves. And I really don’t appreciate being called a “prick” for stating the obvious fact that 90% of the Husker fans in the Midwest ride the bandwagon. And by deserving everything we get–Does that include the Big 12 North titles we’ve been winning? Wasn’t sure, so maybe you can clear that one up for this “dumb, idiot, bottle chunking prick.” Good luck at USC….
September 9th, 2006 on 9:30 am
“the obvious fact that 90% of the Husker fans in the Midwest ride the bandwagon” – Kevin, just when I thought it wasn’t possible, you sound dumber and dumber by the minute. Sounds pretty scientific. This is based on what exactly? Just a tip, if you’re going to respond to my posts then at least try, don’t just make up shit and pull it out of your ass. Seriously dude, that’s ridiculous. I also think it’s funny you are still reveling in the small glory of your recent Big XII North titles, even though the Huskers destroyed you last year in your own stadium and your representation of the Division against the South is dismal at best. Maybe we should start comparing Conference and National Titles between our 2 programs if you are so intent on living in the past?
September 9th, 2006 on 9:16 pm
For you Buff fans.

You’re right, BSMC. The Huskers are the greatest team in the nation, and you’re the most intelligent armchair quarterback in the history of mankind. I hope to be as cool as you someday.
September 12th, 2006 on 12:32 pm
Well Kevin, at least now you’re starting to make a little more sense! Actually I never said that the Huskers are the greatest team in the nation this year. But they are certainly one of the Top 15 in the country and far far better than the once again pathetic Buffs. And unless you have some huge college football playing or coaching experience yourself that you have not yet shared with us, I believe that everyone on this site is an armchair quarterback. As far as being as intelligent and cool as me, well that is a worthy aspiration that a Buffs fan is probably completely unable to ever achieve. But I applaud your effort.
BTW, Where is Ryno these days. We have some unfinished business in the form of a little wager last year.
September 12th, 2006 on 12:40 pm
BSMC -
I’m still around. It’s just hard for me to get a word in edgewise these days! You’re right though, I believe I do still have a debt to pay. You think there’ll be enough room in Lincoln for me this year, or will your head be taking it all up? I kid…I kid…we all know the answer to that question.
Double or nothing this year? You know what they say: any given Friday…
September 12th, 2006 on 12:53 pm
Alright Ryno, we’ll have to stay in touch about the details as D-day gets closer. In all seriousness, I would love to party after the game with you and any fellow Buffs you want to bring along. I do believe that most lifetime true Buffs fans are looking to fix their reputation and I would be glad to be a role model and show you some sincere Husker Hospitality. I will even guarantee your safety in downtown Lincoln after the game (even if the impossible happens and the Buffs pull of the upset)! After all you gave me my name and for that I am grateful!
