Colorado Buffalo Season Preview
filed in Features on Aug.30, 2006
It’s that time of year again, and I’m finding it difficult to put together my annual season preview. There are so many changes for the Buffs heading into the season, I can make arguments for us finishing 10-2 as well as finishing 5-7. Which do I think is more likely? Perhaps I’ll channel the unlimited enthusiasm of Coach Hawkins as I go game by game:
Sep 2, Montana State – I don’t see any way that we lose this game. While I hate to see us play a I-AA school, this contest couldn’t come at a better time. Paying the Bobcats to take a beating gives us a chance to break in the new system and attempt to get the mistakes out of the way. Buffs 51 Bobcats 10
Sep 9, Colorado State – This is always a no-win situation for the Buffs and it’s no difference this year. Win, and it’s no big deal as that’s what is expected. Lose, and we have to listen to Ram Fan spout off all year about their superiority. I really think the Buffs need a win here to avoid a downward spiral for the rest of the season. I see Hawk having his boys ready to play. Buffs 27 Rams 23
Sep 16, Arizona State – This game is the first of two brutal non-conference games that I expect the Buffs to struggle in. ASU is picked as a national darkhorse by many experts and I just don’t think the Buffs will have it together enough this season to pull out this game. I think the Buffs keep it close, but don’t have enough in the end. Buffs 24 Devils 31
Sep 23, Georgia – Recently, it seems the Buffs get blown out in at least one road game a year. Hopefully, Hawk can reverse that trend. Unfortunately, I don’t think he’ll do it this year. Buffs 13 ‘Dogs 35
Sep 30, Missouri – This game will show us the character of this team as they could be coming off of two straight losses and will have to travel to Missouri to face the always tough Tigers. I think the character of the coaching staff causes the team to bond together and the Buffs pull out a tough one in Columbia (on a Mason Crosby last-second field goal). Buffs 24, Tigers 21
Oct 7, Baylor – Baylor is said to be improved this year. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. Buffs 41 Bears 17
Oct 14, Texas Tech – This one could be a barn-burner. We know that Tech will throw the ball up and down the field and it will be interesting to see the new Buffs offense can match the scoring. Unfortunately, I don’t think they can. I think the defense makes some big plays to keep it close, but the Tech offense is just too much for the Buffs this year. Buffs 37 Red Raiders 48
Oct 21, Oklahoma – Enough has been said in the media about Rhett Bomar and the effect that his dismissal will have on OU. Prior to his leaving, I had a loss written down for the Buffs in pen. Now I’ve moved it to pencil. I still think we lose, but I think we have a chance to pull out the upset. Buffs 17 Sooners 24
Oct 28, Kansas – Kansas always plays us tough in Lawrence, but we almost always pull out the win anyway. I think the Buffs do the same this year. Buffs 35 Jayhawks 21
Nov 4, Kansas State – It’s going to be a long season for Wildcat Fan and this game won’t cheer them up any. Buffs 42 Wildcats 13
Nov 11, Iowa State – This game could have Big XII North Division implications and we all know what that means. Iowa State will lay an egg and head off to a lower bowl once again. Buffs 27 Cyclones 20
Nov 24, Nebraska – The game that we all look forward to the most. After an embarrasing loss last year, the Buffs have something to prove against the Corn and their delusional fans. If you ask Bugeater fan about his predictions, he’ll tell you that the Corn will be wrapping up a perfect season by beating the Buffs on the day after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately for the hicks, the Corn may already have 4 (or more) losses coming into this game. I think the Buffs wrap this game up for another North crown. Buffs 30 Huskers 20
It appears that I’ve landed somewhere in the middle of the two records mentioned above. 8-4 on the season for the new staff, a trip to the Big XII title game, and another bowl appearance.

Where is CU in the rankings this year? November 24th a win? In Lincoln? 4 losses for the Big Red before that game? You idots truly truly are so stupid! Ha hahahahahahahahahahaha. The Huskers will BLOW OUT the Buffs! (yet again) Can you retards read the national predicitions, have you followed Big 12 recruiting the past 2 years? Do you understand anything about the sport? Nebraska is back as a national powerhouse this year in a big time way. I can’t wait to read your sorry blogs after that game this year. CU is looking at a 6 or 7 loss season, face reality! It will be so much fun to come back to this page on Nov. 25!

BSMC,
Talk to us after USC humiliates the corn. You guys will be whining for Callahan to be fired again. If you hadn’t happened to have won the last two games he would already have been gone (especially after your terrible conference play against KU and others). Once you guys run of the coach of “the stupidest team in America” (he said it, not me), then it will be a painful re-building process as you try to get back to running the option in an effort to reclaim your glory years.
Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll find something esle fun to do in NE while your program stinks it up for another decade?

It seems Nebraska is basing the fact they are “back” based on competing in a subpar Big 12 North division last year and beating Colorado convincingly, yet they refuse to give Colorado any credit as being a worthy apponent. Doesn’t seem like it works both ways.

Colorado is in for a rebuilding year to be sure, but they have to be better than last year – they lost no superstars, and have a better coach. I’m looking to see them come out 7-5.
As for the corn – with that seriously, painfully, weak schedule, they have no excuse to not end up in the Big XII championship. But they’ll have a rough time, when they drop out of the national rankings after getting stomped by USC. Then they’ll climb back up to the mid 20′s again, only to take a vicious beat down from the Longhorns. If they manange to beat CU (not a given), they’ll probably wind up unranked and in the Championship game, only to be riminded of the pain that is Texas. Sucks to be a Husker this year. So close, yet so far.

I hope this Montana State game is a blow out. I can not stand another Craig Och’s interception loss to another state team
September 1st, 2006 on 9:38 am
I don’t want to act like we should win this game. But I would be careful expecting a blowout against us tomorrow. I think you will be quite surprised at our defense, and our athleticism for being a 1-AA school from Montana. Our QB could be shaky, we graduated an all-american last year, so this guy has about 15 snaps under his belt. I know you guys are better than Okie St., but we had them beat last year, and I think we might be better this year. Enjoy the game and good luck the rest of the season (after Saturday).

Looking forward to another new coach and systam.. Has to be better than Ricky N. boy..

FormerCat,
Good to see you guys getting behind your team. We’ll see you at the game – good luck (after Saturday).
Oh yeah…regarding Okie State…we beat them 34-0 (in Stillwater).

We just lost. I’m skipping college football this season.

The prediction of Montana State: 10 becomes Colorado: 10
This bodes well for the Colorado season!

WHATZ UP BABY!
HOWS THAT FOR A “BREATHER GAME”?
GO CATS!!!
September 2nd, 2006 on 5:32 pm
This may go down as one of the worst seasons of all time for CU. If they don’t beat CSU and Baylor they might actually go 0-12.
Arizona State – LOSS
Georgia – LOSS
Missouri – LOSS
Texas Tech – LOSS
Oklahoma – LOSS
Kansas – LOSS
Nebraska – LOSS
The rest are a coin flip. Every one of them.

Can we start White or Jackson now? The whole damn country knows Cox is a horrible QB, why did we leave him in the whole game? Where was Charles? I can’t take another coach who doesn’t use the talent we have to win ballgames, I don’t know how we regroup after losing to 1-AA. It’s going to take more than “Hawk Love”.
September 3rd, 2006 on 1:18 am
you should change your names to the colorado posums … cuz you play dead at home and get KILLED on the road Ha..Ha….Haha….HaHaHaHa and one last time HAHA go Baylor
September 3rd, 2006 on 2:39 am
you know I would much rather lose to USC then to a 1AA school… at least USC is kind of a good team… by the way Nebraska is gonna beet cu 62-36..
September 3rd, 2006 on 8:41 am
Wow – we sucked.
It is now painfully apparent that we just don’t have any playmakers (with the exception of Crosby).
Honeymoon’s over Hawkins – you just embarrassed the state.
September 3rd, 2006 on 2:19 pm
We are the laghing stock of the entire nation today. B. White shows some talent against the one of the best defenses in NCAA history and he doesnt take a snap??? If Hawk has balls, he’ll start White or atleast rotate him to give him a shot. I have seen Cox play in 5 different games now and its all the same. He’s not a playmaker, a leader, nothing. I’m not saying he’s a bad guy I’m just calling the way everyone is seeing it. The guy go’s 7-22? He’s out. Throwing the long bomb on 3rd and 3?? 2 Times??? This guy has no head! Work in the JR QB and start building for next year. And where were the turnovers?? We have 3 potential all-Big 12 defensive starters and 0 turnovers? and where was the protection?? We have one of the best o-lines in the big 12 and atleast 2 big 12 starters?? 0 run blocking and no pass protection? I dont know what else to say.
September 3rd, 2006 on 10:44 pm
An 0-1 start is not the end of the world, especially with a 12-game schedule. Unless you start 0-1 with a buy game against what was supposed to be a guaranteed chump. Then you can pound the panic button. AAAHH famous words from Lee Corso
September 4th, 2006 on 12:58 pm
Wow! I just can’t believe it. I hope the seniors will pull together and make something of the season. We will rebuild. Lets hope The corn has an undefeated season, right up until Thanksgiving and then we can take them out. That would salvage what may be a long season.
Hang in Buffs! I still would like to see what BJackson can do. He looks like a leader to me
September 4th, 2006 on 1:37 pm
Whoa… That was a pathetic performance. The Buffs have struggled in the past, but nothing like this… losing to a division I-AA team, that’s the worst possible way to start a new season… and a new coaching era under Hawkins. The Buffs have lost five straight now… and I don’t see them beating CSU this year, unless there are some major improvements on offense, defense, and special teams – and I don’t see Hawkins fixing all three areas by next Saturday, but he can start by replacing Cox with White. Buffs 6 Rams 27
September 4th, 2006 on 3:00 pm
Lets think about this if nebraska is unbeaten going into the cu game and lose they would still play in the championship game because not only did they beat the defending champs but also USC BEHOLD THE POWER OF CORN!!!!
September 4th, 2006 on 8:23 pm
you dillusional fools…how on earth did you look at your roster and see an 8-4 season and a bowl! Congrats…you are the biggest joke in college football and it’s not going to get much better.
Montana State isn’t even the best team in Montana!
However, there is a simple explanation for what happened…have you ever seen “My name is Earl” check it out…it talks about a little thing called Karma….that’s exactly what happened. For years you have been the worst behaved fans in college football with many of the worst behaved players…like I said, Karma.
September 4th, 2006 on 10:35 pm
Graytness (wannabe),
You guys run like clockwork, you flood our site with more of your nonsense rabling about how terrible the fans are at CU or how much the team sucks after they lose a game. But when they start winning you idiots are no where to be found. Take a hint this is a CU Fan site or can you read??? As was mentioned before, you can’t turn a battleship on a dime. It will be a while before CU is back on its feet, and after they win a few game you tasteless losers will conveniently disappear again. Oh yeah, have you even been to a CU game? How would you know even how the fans are? Or are you just one of those pimple faced retards that sits at home all day and sees something on TV and assumes that if a few of the fans get out of control that has to be how all of them are. Good work Sherlock!
September 5th, 2006 on 7:25 am
As a matter of fact, Buffs4life, I have been to CU for several games. EVERY SINGLE TIME I have been harrassed, threatened, and booed by your ridiculous unsportsmanlike fans. Every time! There is good reason CU is known all over the nation as having the worst fans in the sport. Now it is also apparent you have the worst team in the country. Beaten by a division AA school after all the shit you talk. You guys are a joke!
September 5th, 2006 on 9:07 am
Buffs4life…perhaps you are not aware that CU has been pegged for having perhaps the worst behaved fans in the country. They don’t know how to handle success or failure. I know this is true because I am from Colorado. I was actually a fan growing up but wisely changed my mind after seeing how disrespectful the fans are. I saw fans actually dropping F-bombs on a FAMILY from Kansas State, there were plenty of other fans who witenssed it and chose not to intervene. A couple years ago I decided to go back to Boulder. I figured since the team had achieved a modest level of success that perhaps fans would now behave a bit better. I was wrong, I saw a teenage girl get hit by a bottle thrown from the stands. True, she had a nebraska shirt on…and in Boulder that probably means that she “had it coming” but in the rest of the country, that’s inexcusable. Of course this is not true of ALL CU fans. I am friends with many CU supporters, all of which admit that something must be done because COLLECTIVELY the fans are a disgrace.
September 5th, 2006 on 9:13 am
Start White or Jackson.
Start White or Jackson.
Start White or Jackson.
Start White or Jackson.
Some players are better in games than practice.
September 5th, 2006 on 3:12 pm
Ok, in case maybe you have not noticed, many of the things that you describe (graytness) that happen at CU games none of which I have ever seen, happen all over the country. This is not exclusive to just CU. What gets annoying is when you have individuals such as yourself that are always quick to point and criticize CU for their fans and for the team every time they lose a game. If you follow this site nobody ever condones throwing bottles or cursing at other fans. So why is it that you people always continue to annoy us with your continued rambling and taunting only after CU loses a few games? Oh yeah that shows a whole lot of class. A shining example of what every college ball fan should be! And BSMC quit your whining. Tell you what, why don’t you wear all University of Texas gear and sit in the OU section of the Cotton Bowl and see if you don’t get picked on or harassed. It happens all over the country buddy, its part of life. Or let me guess where you one of those special kids in grade school that never got picked on?
September 5th, 2006 on 3:37 pm
I was so dissapointed in this loss. From what I saw in the highlights we didn’t anything well. Dropped passes, little/no blocking, missed tackles and sloppy special teams play. Overall, not a good way to get a new ‘era’ started.
As for the trolls here, I’ve seen the same behavior at SEC and ACC games I’ve attended. Make a trip to Neyland stadium in couple of weeks wearing some Gator gear and tell me how enjoyable a time you have….
September 5th, 2006 on 8:51 pm
Hey Buff fan, how does it feel to be slit in the throat, having your carcus stripped clean, and thrown on the barby untill you’ve been grilled WELLLLL DONE! That’s right, your season is officialy over from the time it started. Believe me, the HUSKERS will have the grill fired up once you head east to Lincoln, and you’ll be grilled WELL DONE once again!!!!!!! GO BUGEATERS!!!!!!!!
September 5th, 2006 on 9:48 pm
Buff4life and all fellow dillusional fools…let me make this simple. The reason folks like myself make statements about CU fans is not because those incidents are unique to CU…they just happen more often there. As a former sports broadcaster who has worked in markets in every BCS conference except the Big 10, I can say that CU without question has COLLECTIVELY the worst behaved fans in the country. The fans who are true CU supporters know this and are working hard to change it…fools like yourself would rather deny it.
BTW—–Way to pay 250K for a butt whooping to the 2nd best team in Montana and a middle of the road 1-AA school. The sad thing…CU was lucky that it was even that close….Karma!
September 6th, 2006 on 12:34 am
Greytness, did you not understand what I said, or are you just that blinded by your own bull? When have I ever tried to deny that any of that behavior does not take place at CU game? Or has broadcasting not properly taught you to read and comprehend? And still I ask again why is it that you conveniently voice your opinion now after a CU loss? And if CU is obviously working hard to change this perception why continue to taunt and continue on with your idiotic rambling? Do you really think this is going to change anything or just piss people off?
BTW —– Karma is defined as the sum of EVERYTHING set into motion returning. Not just certain actions by a few people that you and all the other “delusional fools” (Broadcasting also did not improve your poor spelling, where did you get your degree?) like pick out and smear in the faces of those who would NEVER condone that kind of behavior.
September 6th, 2006 on 9:11 am
Buffs4life…I promise, I’ll be back even after a CU win…probably will have to wait a year for that…but I’ll be back. I love your little personal jabs. Very funny, it’s clear that your entire self-worth is entirely too closely tied to the CU football team. Being the biggest joke in the country must be frustrating.
My point remains the same—CU fans are collectively the worst behaved fans in college football. Now, you can either try to change that or continue trying to justify it by saying that bad behavior “happen(s)all over the country.”
As a COLLECTIVE group, CU fans deserved to lose to Montana State and until you all COLLECTIVELY change your behavior, you deserve to have a truly miserable season.
September 6th, 2006 on 10:54 am
COLLECTIVELY most college football fans see you as an idiot. Do us all a favor and go back to broadcasting!
September 6th, 2006 on 1:50 pm
Graytness is right, CU epitomizes the worst of the worse in NCAA Football. Everyone knows it. The Buffs fans, players, and coaches are a COLLECTIVE embarassment to the Big XII!
September 6th, 2006 on 2:07 pm
wow…..i don’t know what to tell you guys. the way your team look saturday, good luck winning four games. for what it’s worth, however, i still think your program is in better shape than K-State’s.
September 6th, 2006 on 6:38 pm
(Greytness) Let’s examine the word COLLECTIVE! It means collected together to form a whole or added up to form a total from different sources or groups. So if you have 100 people in a stadium of 50,000 that are drunk and acting a fool (which is not uncommon at most sporting events) makes up roughly .02% of the total, do you base you’re whole opinion of the other 49,900 on those 100? Can you actually see all 100 of them from the broadcasting booth? Doesn’t really sound like much of a collective. But oh, I forgot, Mr. big shot broadcaster (greytness, or lack there of) seems have the ability know who deserves what kind of karma based on what .02% of the fans do. I should be a broadcaster too, maybe I can inherit these wonderful abilities. What CU needs right now strong leadership and a better public image, which is slow changing for the better. What CU doesn’t need is people who want to constantly bash the team and its fans every time they lose.
BTW——- I really enjoy making fools out of non articulate people who flood our site with nonsense babbling. I find it very funny!
September 6th, 2006 on 8:55 pm
Buffs4life…(I am laughing my butt off as I write this) I usually refrain from personal attacks but man, you are a geek. We can argue semantics all you want. It is generally accepted by those who have attended many college football games throughout the country that CU fans are a disgrace. If you want to argue about what is meant by COLLECTIVE you’ll have to find a fellow geek to argue with. I’m sure everyone who visits this blog can figure out what is meant by COLLECTIVE. Anyone who attends a game, whether they see it from the broadcast booth or not, can see how poorly behaved CU fans are. All they have to do is take a look at the students then pan around the stadium and maybe spend some extra time checking out the folks sitting next to the visiting fans. Guess what, they’ll find more than 100 people acting like idiots. It’s funny how CU fans assume that this behavior must be as bad throughout the rest of the country. You’re wrong again! I have been to truly heated rivalries and have yet to see families attacked the way that I mentioned in an earlier post.
BTW—you can’t “inherit” abilities unless you plan on being reborn. Inherit means to receive something from an ancestor through succession or will…to receive or take over from a predecessor…or to receive a characteristic through genetic transmission. I hope that was articulate enough for you…even though the word articulate generally refers to verbal communication. (Damn, you tool! You’ve sucked me into your geeky little world!)
Enjoy having your COLLECTIVE butts handed to you by CSU (the school that doesn’t embarrass the state)…Buffs4life, try dating once in a while, it might ease the tension.
September 6th, 2006 on 11:18 pm
Oh, sure Mr. almighty broadcaster. You obviously have never attended any games where fans have shot at one another over the outcome. The things you mentioned before are child’s play compared to more intense rivalry games. (I figured you would know that being the expert that you are. How may years broadcasting? Most likely not very many). Funny, it doesn’t sound like career that requires much intellect. Do we have fans that act a fool? Yes. Does this mean we have the absolute worst? No. Should we allow that behavior to continue? No.
September 9th, 2006 on 6:23 pm
CU does have the worst fans in the country. They proved that last Thanksgiving to the nation on TV.BTW Chadron State beat Montana State 35 to 24 today.I cant belive any CU fan would even think of talking trash this year. You guys should go bury your heads.Opps just lost to Colorado State.Your 0 and 2 off to a great start.Nebraska might not be a national power house but im sure they could beat both CSU and MSU.Good luck CU your gonna need it.BTW nice game clock last year just before the half. You cheat and still get your butts kicked.
