Bomar dismissed from Oklahoma
filed in Big XII on Aug.02, 2006
According to ESPN.com, starting QB Rhett Bomar and J.D. Quinn (expected to start at Guard) have both been dismissed from the team for violating NCAA rules. According to sources, both players reported that they worked 40 hour work weeks when it was closer to 5 hours. The violation occured when the employer payed them for 40 hours anyway. It will be interesting to see how this affects the program as Oklahoma does not have an experienced Division I QB on the roster. It appears that CC transfer Joey Halzle will be the favorite to be the starter. This development may give the Buffs a shot at a win in Norman this year.

This is such a major blow to Oklahoma. Bomar was the future of their program. I actually feel badly for Stoops, his program has been so solid. I also thought Floyd Landis wasn’t doping.

The buffs are going to suck whats new, in stead of Texas, Oklahoma will be the team that gets CU as there wipping boy. By the way who needs Brett Romar the D will take the team to the big 12 championship.

First of all… “don’t know do ya”, any team that was shockingly upset by the Horned Frogs, isn’t going to make a whipping boy out of any body. And secondly, a team that relies entirely on its defense to win games… is like saving someone that is drowning, and hoping not to get pulled under. Now, with that said, Oklahoma will do fine without Bomar, but don’t expect them to roll over the Buffs… I’m predicting an upset in Norman.

With Bomar Oklahoma was a national title contender, without him they are just a really good team. Texas will also be playing with little experience at QB, so this could finally be the year that the Big 12 North regains some respect.
The Buffs will have a decent year (6-8 wins), but I’m excited to see the offense and even more excited to see our defense. Could it really be true that we’re not going to play 10 yards off the other teams receivers? That would be amazing.

Slow down for a minute. Oklahoma State plays the role of Oklahoma’s whipping boy.
The Sooners will be hurt by the loss of Bomar but they do have 5th year senior Paul Thompson who has played mop up duty in the past. Here is a quick video of what he can do, http://myopiniononsports.blogspot.com/2006/08/thompson-could-be-dangerous.html
The Sooners will still compete for the Big 12 Championship and who knows what from there.
