New Chief

Tuesday, new Chiefs coach Herman Edwards announced the hiring of Jon Embree as tight ends coach. Embree, a UCLA assistant the last three years, played at Colorado and spent 10 years there as an assistant coach. Good luck coach! We’ll be pulling for you (except when you play the Broncos).

Embree has been very successful in college football and is not doubt excited to expand his knowledge with the pro game. He’ll have a familiar face on the staff as he makes this transition. Colorado’s own David Gibbs (#15; Class of ’91) left Auburn (where he served as defensive coordinator last season) to return to the NFL as the Chiefs’ defensive backs coach. Gibbs was the starting cornerback for the Buffs opposite of David McCloughan in 1990 – the first season that CU met Notre Dame in Miami. He was the starting nickleback the championship season until midway through the year when the coaches began to insert Eric Hamilton into that role.
Good luck to Gibbs and Embree as they get this AFC West team ready to take on all-comers, including Denver’s Donkeys.
