Buffs sign 21
filed in Recruiting on Feb.01, 2006 by Marc
Buffs sign 21 for Coach Hawkins first class. This class shaped up to be a great crop of athletes and a bright spot for the Colorado program. The class is highlighted by Cody Hawkins, QB from Boise Idaho, and coincidentally our new coach’s son. Not all fathers got their wishes though. Darian Hagan signed with Cal. The class is full of seven offensive lineman with Faatagi ready to get started immediately. Jimmy Smith and Cha’pelle Brown have got some great speed in the secondary. Can’t wait to see all of these guys in action in the fall. Although rumor is that Hawkins will grey shirt and start school in Jan of ‘07. Go Buffs!
One side note- scout.com rates the class as 51st in the nation. And 49th by rivals.com. I’d say that is a major imporvement from where we were last week.

Somehow I missed Michael Sipili, a 6-foot-2, 240-pound second-team LB all-stater from Honolulu. He had orally committed to Oregon State. But Colorado assistant coach Brian Cabral persisted and helped pursuade Sipili to head for Boulder.

Looks like you can add Michael Sipili a LB from Hawaii to the list. Also, it looks like Rouson and Mason are still up in the air. I think the Hawkins and his staff did a great job picking up the mess that Barnett left and moving forward.

Great job by the new staff, we moved up over 25 spots in the past week alone! An elite 11 QB in Hawkins was a steal too!
Go Buffs!
February 1st, 2006 on 2:05 pm
I was just looking at scout.com and it looks like Sir Aaron Mason signed with Washington. It says Colorado didn’t even offer him a scholarship. He must not have been very impressed following his visit, or visa versa.

Wow! Still ZERO 5 star recruits. And ZERO 4 star recruits. This recruiting class is a joke for a Division 1 Big 12 team. Bottom of the conference, how pitiful. The Buffs will continue to suuuuuuuck!
February 1st, 2006 on 3:16 pm
Actually 10th in the Big XII not last.
February 1st, 2006 on 4:36 pm
Wow AshamedBuff…I don’t think you really understand how the whole recruiting thing works…I think we are lucky to have turned around what could’ve been a disasterous recruiting season…to finish in the middle of the pack in the nation means we shouldn’t lose too much ground over where we are now…give the new coaching staff a full season to go after big name recruits and show them what CU has to offer and I think things are looking up for us… Glad to see we are getting some line depth…it’s never good when you have use linemen on both sides of the ball just fill out a lineup

Fans who think we should be pulling in recruits like Texas, USC, Florida, etc just aren’t being realistic. It takes time to build prestige – and frankly ours has been down of late. This will turn out to be the start of a good program, and the four and five star recruits will come.
IT ISN’T EASY TO RECRUIT 4 and 5 STAR PLAYERS. So quit acting like it should be. Moron.
February 1st, 2006 on 6:43 pm
Hey Iowa Boy,
There were 51, count them 51, 4 and 5 star recruits in this year’s Big 12. Not one of them in the Buffs class. And you call me the moron? What kind of freaking idiot does that make you?
February 1st, 2006 on 8:22 pm
My point was, and still is, that Hawk pulled in a good recruiting class (all things considered) and that we should recognize that. Heck, we’re lucky to end up with 13-three star recruits after all of the turmoil of the past two seasons.
Give Hawk some time, it takes awhile to build something. Oh that’s right… you’re “ashamed” of the Buffs – talk to me in two years when you’ve changed you handle to “band-wagon buff”. I’m out.
February 2nd, 2006 on 7:10 am
I fail to see how anyone will be a “band-wagon Buff” in two years, when the program’s level of talent will be light-years behind the rest of the conference and consequently we will be looking at losing seasons. The only “band-wagon” in two years will be the “we’re too impatient to continue suffering through Hawkins band-wagon”.

Asahmed Buff, your name says it all – we’re ashamed you call yourself a Buff.
We have a great new coach. Under difficult circumstances, he managed to significantly improve of the crappy class Barnett was going to recruit. The coaching staff that has been assembled in excellent. The media and fans are turning in favor of the Buffs again. The scandal crap is behind us. THESE ARE ALL POSITIVE DEVELOPMENTS. SHOW A LITTLE OPTIMISM AND STOP WHINING.
February 2nd, 2006 on 10:49 am
Amen to that 98 Buff.
A note to Ashamed Buff – just give up on the Buffs and root for the USC’s of the world. We don’t need fans like you who are nothing but a cancer to the program.
February 2nd, 2006 on 12:27 pm
Hey at least Hawk knows that CU needs lineman, unlike the smart alec Barnett/Watson. You win games in the trenches, and lately the line has SUCKED. Bottom line is coaching. You can take nobodies an turn them into decent players. Jack off Barnett had a hard time doing that. By the way, when is Barnett going to land (Mizzou?) at another Big 12 school?
February 2nd, 2006 on 12:47 pm
Ashamed “Buff”, You probably have a lot to be ashamed about… but being a buff should not be one of those things. If you are so ashamed, why do you persistently lurk around this site, spewing your crap and pessimism? Move on already – crawl back under your rock or back into whatever cornfield you hobbled from.
I am a real Buff – and damn proud to be one. If there is one thing I love, it is Colorado Football. I stand by this football program in good times and bad. That is what a real Buff does. You, “ashamed”, are anything but.
Positive changes have been made in the program. We are on the way back. I am confident that the 2006-2007 season will be a damned good one – I suspect it will be better than many of us have predicted. Looking forward to seeing the buffs take on either OU or UT in the Big XII Championship.
Buff Proud ‘98

I agree with Buff in Iowa. In 2 or 3 years when CU starts seriously contending for the Big XII title and BCS bowls, ashamed buff will probably be the first one to say, “see, I told you they would be good.” All things considered, I think any real CU fan should be quite impressed with this years recruiting class. It is completely unrealistic to expect a class full of 4 and 5 star recruits when you go through a coaching change in the offseason. I don’t put a whole lot of faith into the high school star rankings anyways because you can never tell how much a player will develop. Sometimes the 4 and 5 star guys fail to develop and end up being worse than their 2 or 3 star counterparts. (i.e. Marcus Houston). Hawkins is used to working with these 2 or 3 star guys and coaching them into good players. Also, of those 51 4 and 5 star recruits, 34 of them signed with Texas (just won a national title), Oklahoma (1 year removed from consecutive title game appearances) and Nebraska (A former powerhouse on the upswing with an attractive gameplan). Give Hawkins a couple years and he’ll be pulling in talent like that too.

Glad to see I’m not alone in here. Go Buffs!!!
February 2nd, 2006 on 5:47 pm
Ashamed Buff…You are clearly an Idiot. I would like to see your dumb ass in Hawk and the rest of the coaches shoes and do much better. Recruiting doesn’t just involve offering as many 4 and 5 star recruits as we can, it involves planning and resources. If you would just use your worthless little brain and think about it for a while you “might” see the light as well. Go root for Texas you fair-weather fan…we don’t want you.
February 2nd, 2006 on 6:14 pm
Oh, you guys sound so big and strong! I like big strong Buffs! Ok, you changed my mind. It’s not the size of a recruiting class it’s how you use it. I get it now. Go Buffs! Give it to me! Oh yeah! I hope you all enjoy the 06 season, cause you’re gonna get it right up your talentless little poop holes!
February 2nd, 2006 on 10:20 pm
Ashamed Buff, you’re like a brother, but don’t ever take sides with anyone against the Family again. Ever. Capiche?
February 3rd, 2006 on 6:42 am
I don’t think anyone expects 2006 to be a banner year for the Buffaloes. Looking at our schedule we shouldn’t expect more than a .500 season, but this year will be a turning point in the program. I definately think there will be a change in the atmosphere surrounding the program, and for the first time since pre-Neuheisel it will be a positive climate. I can definately picture the Buffs and Huskers playing each other the day after Thanksgiving both ranked in the top 10 in two or three years.
I for one am looking forward to it, but it isn’t going to happen overnight. Be patient and you will see the program evolve into something we can ALL take pride in.
February 3rd, 2006 on 7:30 am
Capiche, to all my brothers I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I’ll try to be more positive and patient as long as you don’t call me any more names for pointing out that the glass is still more than half empty. We have to be realistic and we have to set the goals, recruiting and otherwise, high. Settling for mediocrity will not rebound the program.
February 3rd, 2006 on 5:50 pm
Go BuffS!!! looks like we’re going to win the NAtional Championship! And you know what? we’re going to win it w/ these 3 star recruits, we don’t need 4-5 stars.. if they did come we welcome them, we may just end up winning the superbowl! that’s right. we’re going to whip some asses in the BIG12 and around the country who’s got all these 4-5star recruits, cuz we’re better looking than anyone else in the country. Who needs 4-5star recruits. Hell, give us 1 star players, even NR’s… we’ll make’em allpros by the end of the year. Cuz it’s all about developement, not busts…
February 4th, 2006 on 10:17 am
You go johnath, you go! Damn straight, who needs talent when you’ve got an experienced and cohesive coaching staff? Um… Who needs talent when you’ve got a great returning QB? Um… Who needs talent when you’ve got pride and an absence of corruption among the team? Um… Who needs talent when you’ve got respectworthy fans known for their sportsmanship? Um… Who needs talent when you’ve got unlimited financial resources flowing into the program? Um… Who needs talent when you’ve got a positive national reputation? Um…
Wait a minute, am I the Husker website? Oh, shit, sorry guys, I’m in the wrong place. Good luck Buffs, you’re going to need it!!!
February 4th, 2006 on 3:14 pm
Herbert H. Husker:
#1 – That was funny
#2 – We’re not going to be competing for any national titles in the next three years, but don’t count us out of a Big 12 North title or two.
Jonath:
#1 – Development is important – I’ll give you that, but it helps to start with some athletic ability
#2 – You’re crazy if you think we’ll win a national title with only three star talent.
#3 – At least you’re optimistic, so that’s a plus

Ashamed Buff
is just a Cornhusker trying to stir up trouble, dont give him the time of day.
February 5th, 2006 on 11:43 pm
Im one of the “three star” recruits all of you have been talking about. I think what alot of you guys dont understand is the fact that not eveyone that has a three star rating sucks, alot of kids that have three star ratings got them at the end of their junior year like me. So no matter what they do their senior year thay will still be only 3 stars. Even if they are all state it wont change their stars. Alot of the platers that are 3 stars could very easily be as good or better than some of the 4 or 5 stars.

Marquez-
Welcome aboard. Really, don’t take too much stock in this discussion, most of the people posting here are just cornhuskers trying to cause trouble. We’re very glad to have you in Boulder, and I for one am exicited about our recuiting class. I believe that your class will be the start of something great here at CU. Seriously, welcome, and I wish you nothing but the best at CU. I’m sure you’ll love it.
February 6th, 2006 on 3:17 pm
Ashamed,
What a vile, venomous load of crap! Get a life…
CU is an outstanding university – both academically and athletically. Sure, lately there have been some bumps in the road – but that is a thing of the past now. Great things are going to happen at CU with Coach Hawk at the helm. You too will see this happen.
I am a devout Buff. I never miss a game, and I will *always* support the team. I also have a great deal of respect for all of the other teams in the big XII.
Clearly you hate the buffs… You probably are a student or alum of NU. Regardless, for you to come to a Buffs site and spew your crap – you only shed a bad light on yourself and your team’s program.
Go Buffs!
February 6th, 2006 on 4:36 pm
Do the cornholes have a website where I can go to provide malicious disinformation (like that found above), about their pathetic football team and coaching staff? If so, please post the url so I can get started right away!
I have never seen anything as disgusting as the post-game beating that an NU player dispensed to a Mizzou fan (on the field no less…) following their 41-24 loss in 2003.

Now that is a program that has something to be proud of! Yeah huskers, you’re a real class act…
Huskers SUCK!!

Basically nothing noteworthy happening right now, but eh. Today was a complete loss. I haven’t been up to much recently. I’ve pretty much been doing nothing worth mentioning.
