Buffs Embarassed Again…
filed in Post-game on Dec.04, 2005
Following the Buffs impressive performance against Texas, there are many questions floating around. Will the Buffs rebound in a bowl game and find their offence (or defense)? The Buffs have been dominated 130 – 22 in the last three games. Will Coach Barnett be offered a contract extension? Will there be new coaches / coordinators on the sidelines? What Bowl Game will want the Buffs? The Buffs historically do not travel well and they returned 5000 of their 8500 tickets for the Big 12 Championship. Buff Fans I hate to admit it but I think the wheels are falling off…

Barnett has lost this team….We were seemingly flying high after mizzou…stumbled against ISU, it happens but good teams rebound, this team folded…if you want to blame the players for folding and mailing in the season, fine, but remember who recruited these players…Barnett, so it all comes back to him. Even if we can’t afford to buy out Barnett, and must keep a lame duck coach, can Mike Bohn at least make him change assistants? Even if we are going to keep Barnett, this team needs a shake-up, and I feel like it needs to happen before a bowl game, which is our last chance to make any recruit, actually still considering CU, get excited about playing here next year.

Barnett has epitomized mediocracy ever since he came to Colorado. He had one good year, 2001 when we handled Nebraska 62-36, but even that year we got crushed by Oregan in the Fiesta Bowl. I’m getting sick and tired of watching Colorado play terrible pass defense week in and week out. Time to move on. We’ve tried new assistants before, but the problems continue. Barnett has got to go.

The Texas game was the final straw for me, I think we are overdue for a new coach in Boulder. It is not just the way Texas beat us, although that was soooo ugly–but the way Colorado played the game. The Buffaloes basically gave up. The fact the Buffaloes are the most penalized team in college football says something about preparation. Penalties speak to coaching. There are some coaches whose teams don’t commit a lot of penalties—and it is consistent year in and year out. Colorado plays sloppy football under coach Barnett. When I went to school at Colorado, we had great football teams, now fans accept bad football as, “the best we can do under the circumstances.” Enough excuses!!! Boulder is one of the most beautiful college towns in the country and a school with solid academics. We should be able to recruit better players, there is no reason other than leadership that C-U is no longer a consistent college football powerhouse. Enough of the embarassing scandals and mediocre, mistake filled football. Get a big time coach, pay him what you have to and let him bring Colorado football back to where it should be. At this point, I am not even interested in watching Colorado in a bowl game. I’m sure it will be just another embarassment.

First, can someone block GoBruinzzz from posting anything on this page? Seriously. He has annoyed me for too long, and I have yet to hear him say anything intelligent. In case you haven’t noticed, this is a “CU” web site.
Second, what big name coach is out there for CU to go after? We all know Barnett wants to go back to Mizzou once his contract is fulfilled. I say we cut bait now, before the Champs Sports Bowl so people know we’re serious about fixing our current situation. But again, I ask you who is available for us to pursue? Nothing jumps out at me.

Here’s a big name coach that I think we should, and probably could, bring to Colorado… Mike Price. His name was cleared regarding “StripperGate”, and he’s won everywhere he’s been. Not only is he a winner, but he’s teams play hard. He is also known for his game-planning and offensive play calling – I don’t know if I am the only one who is a little disgusted that the ONLY play Colorado can seem to execute is the QB waggle.
What a breath of fresh air he’d be in Boulder.

Mike Bohn, Please fire Barnett. Here’s some COMPELLING REASONS (if you’re having trouble with the decision)…
1. Programs that are, or aspire to be, national powers RESPOND PROMPTLY when events such as the past two week’s humiliation occur. They send a clear message that what happened is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Barnett should be gone within the next couple of days! If I produced results at work as embarrassing as the Texas defeat I am pretty darn certain my boss would fire me without a second thought.
2. This year’s RECRUITTING class is sub-par already, so now is the time to make the change anyway. If we wait another year or two then we’ll just get two more weak classes and have a longer road back.
3. Barnett is a DIVISIVE figure. Even if he were succeed in getting the program back to
national prominence, there are still those who will never approve of him after the last few years. For every supporter there is someone who despises him; a coach can DO BETTER THAN A 50% APPROVAL RATING. How many USC fans support Carroll do you suppose?
4. Barnett STILL HASN’T FIGURED OUT that Shawn Watson is useless.
5. RTD FAILED. He promised something and did not deliver. He did not do what we are paying him to do.
Please Mike Bohn – this is your chance to prove your mettle and we’re all hoping you make the right decision!

ET – here’s some ideas:
Pat Hill from Fresno
Gary Kubiak from the Broncos
Brian Cabral from the Buffs
Dan Hawkins from Boise State
Gary Patterson from TCU
Someone on USC’s staff?

I watched the entire game on Saturday. First off, you never give up…never. There were 2-3 players that did not give up…everyone else, including coaches, did. Again, Barnett stood there with his standard look of despair…absolutely no fire…like someone just took his loly pop and kicked his puppy. Where is Jimmy Valvano when you need him. It is time for a coaching change. I am not sure a big name coach is what Colorado needs. Look what Urban Meyer did for Utah. Mike Bohn appears to the real deal. I look to him to find a hungry young coach who will honor, respect and love the University of Colorado as much as I do…as much as all the fans do. A true leader who coaches with passion, inspires his players and demands respect. NO…I do not think this is too much to ask.
I’m afraid this may be the only way my season tickets do not become a new flat screen tv to watch the buffs on next year.

Hey, you guys are being too hard on Gary….after all, we are talking about football, so who really cares about “winning” and “pride” and “game-time preparation” and “not embarrasing yourselves on national TV”……YOU CRITICS NEED TO GET YOUR PRIORITIES IN LINE, JUST LIKE BARNETT HAS! He doesnt care about any of those things, and neither should you! Long Live Gary!

Ya, what Abe said…
December 6th, 2005 on 10:45 am
Abe, that’s the best laugh i’ve had in days. Just as a Big IX fan period, it pains me to see a team fall apart as CU has and it’s always been my opinion that blame must ultimately come back to the coach. I’ve never been impressed by Barnett especially after the last two weeks and his recuiting classes for ’05 and ’06. I think now is the time to find someone new.

Lucky for me I was in Mexico during the Big XII title game. So, I go back to Nebraska. I was at Folsom Field that day and have never seen anything like it. Barnett was outcoached. The corn was prepared for our attack and it appeared that we had absolutely no game plan for theirs. If I didn’t know better I would have thought that CU had played their previous game a day or two beofre that one, that is utterly unprepared we were.
If 6-7 win mediocre teams are what we want, Barnett stays. I want more than that from Colorado Football. I say he goes – the sooner the better.
Blast me if you want, but I’d give Dave Logan a long look as a possible replacement.
December 6th, 2005 on 3:09 pm
Agreed. Logan is the best choice.
December 7th, 2005 on 10:31 am
26 yrs of attending games following the buffs no matter what. This is what the CU fans get back for being loyale and supporting the program. In all the scandals and bad records in the begining of the coach mac years it never was this bad. the fairbanks years made it clear that if you let a coach run things into the ground as BARNETT HAS IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO REBUILD A PROGRAM. LET’S LET HIM GO TO HIS NEXT FAILURE AND CUT THE LOSSES NOW!! We need a coach who can recruit and build a program we can support and be proud of!! I KNOW THAT IF Barnett is still here next year 22 years of buying season tickets will end for me.
December 10th, 2005 on 4:14 pm
I like Steve Kragthorpe of Tulsa for a replacement. Dan Hawkins would also be good.
