I live in nebraska and i have always been a Buff’s fan,and a Cornhuskers fan. A few times it has put me in a bad situation, but I always made the best of it. I made the trip to colo. this year to the Ne.&Colo.game. Well you know how that turned out!! Well when I was in your state , Iwas treated like shit. Ispent a lot of money out there and I will never return again. I watched the bowl game last night and was real happy to see Clemson kick your ass. for the record there is a major difference between the article you provided from some paper i’ve never heard before from somewhere in texas (which also has a picture of howard dean holding pink t-shirts!) to what happened in boulder. first, during the NU OU game i never once heard the the abc sports announcers calling the fans idiots or warning the sideline reporter to get out of the student section in fear of her life. second, the only thing i ever read or heard about being thrown on the field during the NU OU game were fack yellow flags from out of the student section that landed next to the officals (the editor of the university’s paper promptly ripped into the students at the game in the first article written after that weekend, saying he never wanted to see actions like that ever again within memorial stadium). finally, the actions in lincoln were out of frustration because of a clearly blown call in a GAME NEBRASKA STILL HAD A CHANCE TO WIN, something that can not be said about the CU game.

Just for the record, CU is not Nebraska’s rival. Nebraska’s conference rival always has been and always will be Oklahoma. In order for it to be a rivalry the win-loss ratios need to be a lot closer than the pathetic showing CU has made against the Big Red over the years. Not to mention the mutual respect that would need to exist. Sorry Buffs, you can use all the red letters, hammers, and locker room codes you want, but you still are decades and decades and decades away from being Nebraska’s true rival.

New transfer to CU here (Junior). I had hoped the University could avoid further embarassment. An individual should be proud of the school they attend and be able to stand by it regardless of petty offenses. But last Saturday was not petty in the least, it is embarassing to all of us – the alumni and the entire state, the entire conference, and the NCAA in general. Thousands, even millions, find themselves disgusted by this latest childish, petulant act. Even more of an embarassment is Barnett’s inability to bring anything or anyone under control. Someone wrote that they hope for a CU loss tomorrow, I would suggest that despite hopes for a decent bowl game, we must admit to ourselves that CU doesn’t even so much as deserve a football team, much less the opportunity to represent us at a bowl game.

Yes these behaviors occur at every venue in varying degrees during isolated incidents. But I don’t think anyone who has been to both Lincoln and Boulder for football games can intelligently deny that these instances of poor behavior and arrogant violence are exponentially greater at CU than anywhere else in the Big 12.

Enough is enough. For 10 straight years I attended the Colorado Nebraska agame home and away. Nebraska did win most of those games and let me tell you while some Husker fans were gracious in defeat, there were plenty that weren't. In Lincoln, I have been hit in the head with a hot dog, nearly been physically assaulted in the parking lot, and had Buffalo magnets stolen from my vehicle. My personal favorite is when I watched two fans piss in the sinks at the stadium. Nebraksa fans are not the angels that you would like them to be either. As illustrated by the article about Husker fans throwing water bottles on the field. No this does not make it right or justify any actions. The thing that is intersting is that the emotion and ranker comes in both instances from college students. Alumni at the Husker games have been welcoming, even in defeat. One year I was even invited downstairs for pickles. But the same can be said of the Colorado fans. More than once have I offered beer to opposing fans both before and after games. But yes, there are vile vile things that are said and done by students at college football games. It is not acceptable. But it is weird, because the number one reason that I enjoy college football is the emotion involved in the game. Pro football has none of the emotion of college football. Momomentum controls the game and any team knows that it is possible to come back from 4 scores behind. The tide turns so quickly in college football because the players are young and vulnerable to emotion during the football game. And as fans we know that if we cheer and sing loudly enough we actually may have a significant impact on the game. Go Buffs!

There is nothing to defend. People don’t get injured in the NU stadium and cars from Colorado aren’t destroyed afterwords in Lincoln. You need to get some serious perspective on just how disgraceful the CU fan base is. CU, apparently, has done little to change this culture of disrespect and unsportsmanlike behavior because it has only gotten progressively worse over the years. Last Friday illustrated that to the entire nation.

You are soo funny. Let me clarify for you, fan site weblogs ARE the appropriate place for talking smack about your program. And Lord knows that you guys spew more than your share of venom here. It is only fitting that when you pick a fight you get a little back. Your problem though is that you confuse this with your behavior in the stadium and on the field. How exactly did I prove your point? We are not the ones who go to games devoid of any sportsmanship and drunkenly eager to pick fights and display horrific fan behavior. On the contrary, we go to games and show nothing but welcoming respect to the opponents and their fans. You say that we do not bother to defend the same behavior from our program. Well, Teddy, that is because it does not exist to even a fractional degree compared to CU. Do you really think that Callahan’s throat-slashing gesture vs. OU equates to your entire program’s history of pathetic behavior. Let me assure you that there is a difference between one minor incident and an entire culture of violence and poor sportsmanship. So go on deluding yourself if need be, but everyone in the Big 12 knows the difference between the Buffs and the Huskers.

It’s interesting how even after pointing out several incidents where NU fans have acted without class, all I see are more postings attacking CU fans, no attempt to defend your own school…..and you say I am in denial? Its nice to see you are at least admitting it is a rivalry game though.
Oh yeah, and you know what makes you look really smart? Attacking Colorado for having classless fans and displaying poor sportsmanship in a message board post, then signing said post ‘blow me buffs’ and proceeding to write “f*** the Buffs forever”. And to those Buffs who say not to critize their entire program for just “a few” fans: Who then made their program’s locker room combination 6-2-3-6 as a crass attempt at seasonal motivation? Who then brought hammers to Lincoln and left them in complete disrespect of the Huskers in their own house? Who then against any semblance of sportsmanship and respect last Friday crowded the midfield barrier during warm-ups and started talking trash before the game? If these things are not the responsibility of the players and coaches, then who? Self-respecting teams don’t constantly revel in such tasteless displays. True rivalries can exist without hatefilled disrespect. At the University of Colorado it truly is the fans, the athletes, the coaches, and the administrators combined that have brought this well deserved reputation down upon the “mighty buffs”.

You my friend are in complete denial. There is no comparison in the overall fan image between NU and CU. There have never been entire sections of Memorial stadium cleared during a game because of hundreds and hundres of classless fans. You somehow think that it is just a few at Buffs games. Have you been to your own stadium on any given Saturday? Are you blind and deaf? This has been going on consistently for years. No comparison. Buffs are nationally known as drunken violent haters.
