A Quick Look back
filed in Rivals on Nov.22, 2005
Before we get into the x’s and O’s of the game this week, let’s just have a quick look back at Nebraska over the last several years. We all remember 62-36. SInce that program crushing loss things haven’t looked that great for the Huskers.
2002 – 7-7
2003 – 10-3
2004 – 5-6
2005 – 6-4
After 2003, their only decent season of the last 4, they fired Frank Solich and hired Bill Callahan from the Oakland Raiders. Bill has managed a poor attempt at a West Coast offense and turned away some of his best recruits. The Huskers even managed to lose to Kansas this year for the first time in over 30 years. He has pissed of Husker loyal fans to the point that the Husker office atcually had to return many of their ticket allottment for this game.
Things are not looking good for the Huskers. And man that is all right with me. I like the fact that you never even hear them mentioned on national TV. I like the fact that I nver have to see that horrible mascot of theirs. I like the fact that you can’t even call them black shirts anymore. They don’t deserve the name. I like the fact that they are so desperate that they burned their freshman QB’s redshirt last week.
Funny story: The Buffs always dress their scout team up as Husker girls for practice before the Buffs and Huskers play. Well when they called the decal company to get Husker decals this year, the decal company said “that’s funny, Nebraska just called to get some Buffalo decals.” Sounds like somebody is putting a little more emphasis on this non-rivalry game. Difference this year is that Buffs expect to win, while the Huskers expect to lose but would be surprised to win.
So after the game this year, CU fans you may want to say goodbye to Bill Callahan. You hated him as a Raider; You hated him as a Husker. He probably won’t be back to Folsom field ever again.

Well hell, I personally like it when Nebraska is having a decent season. It’s a lot more of a rivalry when both teams have something at stake each time they meet. I’m not going to lie, I still love to beat the Huskers like a rented red headed step-mule but I like it much more when we shock the nation by beating a ranked Husker team. Winning is fun, but really, what’s the point of winning a rivalry game if you aren’t humiliating the loser?
As for ol’ Billy Callahan, I’m sorry to see him go. Having him at the controls is like having Shawn Watson call your plays, you always know they’re going to suck. Callahan inspires his team to lose, his fans to not give a crap and the rest of the country to laugh at the Husker program. He’ll be missed. But the University of Nebraska is known for quitters, remember Eric “Crotch” Crouch? Also a loser and a quitter X 2.
Nebraska fans (should I not make that plural, is there more than one?): Send me your t-shirt size and I’ll send you a “Herbie is a Bitch” t-shirt in Black and Gold (in case you want to jump ship) or commie red, whichever you want.
Hugs and Kisses,
Ryno

Sweet. Do you have them in XXL. They grow ‘em big in the land of corn.

This article gave me goosebumps….go buffs!

Ryno, Screw you. Personal attacks on Eric Crouch (who, by the way, drove a dagger into buffs’ hearts more than once) serve no purpose other than to show that you cannot present your opinion without resorting to name calling.
Best wishes on a good game. If the Big Red happens to pull this one out, I hope that you have a more mature attitude in losing than you do in program analysis.
And by the way, there are still 5 national championships in Lincoln compared to one split one in Boulder.

Play had to be stopped because this one was a blowout and CU fans started to throw things on the field. I don’t know why you consider this a rivalry considering the all time record is 43-14-2. So long CU seniors…NU owns Colorado for yet another year

Wow! The Buffs have yet again proved that they are the most pathetic and hateful players and fans in the Big 12 if not the entire nation. Way to go to the corrupt and talentless UC!
November 25th, 2005 on 10:43 pm
Boy, Callahan’s play calling sure sucked today, didn’t it? Thanks for a great game today, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Colorado make themselves look completely pathetic in every possible way.

Maybe the Buffs should consider changing their locker room code to 0-3-3-0!

Who’s the bitch? Ralphie can lick my hairy corn fed balls.
Sorry to be so classless, but you learn a few things when watching Colorado squander any possible respect they had left. I am sure all the water bottles on the field really helped recruiting. You should have thrown gatorade at your players, ’cause they sure look dehydrated.
I hope that Iowa State gets crushed today so Ralphie can go get hooked.

I actually watched this game. I’m not so impressed with the Buff’s fans behavoir.
Funny story about rivalry. Jen (the gf) and I were driving back to CO from NE this past summer. As we arrived in Boulder, a SUV loaded with college kids rolled up next to us and the whole carload of them gave us the evil eye. I was like, what the f* is that all about? I had no idea. Jen made it all clear. We had Nebraska plates on the car.
… and shit, i don’t even like hockey!

You really think that Nebraska returned some of it’s ticket allotment because our fans are pissed, or maybe it’s because opposing fans need to fear for their lives at Folsom field. Anyway, Ryno, Yes there are more than just one Husker fan out there. You probably heard us on saturday. I’m not just talking about the ones at the stadium, outnumbererd 4 to 1, and yet drowning out CU fans for most of the game. But you probably heard the other 1.5 million of us screaming from our couches while the better part of CU land was out skiing. You were implying that Husker fans are fair-weather? Hey Pot, the kettle called, it says you’re black.

You know, this game and Buffalo reaction really says alot. Finaly, the Buffs fans are exposed for what they really are. Throwing bottles on to your own field, have some dignity and some class, buffs. I have no personal problem with the colorado program, but the average Colorado fan could use some lessons from real fans, like those of Nebraska or Oklahoma. Also, I find the first thing buffs fans do after their loss is remind NU fans about the last couple years and the 62-36 game in 2001. Well, that was a 26 point victory. The 2005 game was a 27 point victory, but don’t worry, we won’t remind you all of this forever. Live in the now, not in the past. I also find it suprising that Colorado fans are talking about Barnett’s future possibly being in jeopardy. He is a good coach, and should be comfortable with his job.
November 29th, 2005 on 12:49 pm
Golly, how embarrassing to have written those disparaging remarks about the Huskers and Coach Callahan, and then be beaten so badly. I would have had some sympathy for Colorado because of its fans, except that Coach Barnett has so little class that he allows his team to run onto midfield shouting obscenities before the game. Do they teach any sportsmanship, say in little leagues, in Colorado?

OH MY GOSH! Nebraska is soooooo much better than Colorado! I remember a quote, “I like that Nebraska is never mentioned on TV.” Well, you’d better turn your tv off. Nebraska’s back big-time baby!
They just showed what they’re capable of when they click. You can’t just come in and instantly install a West Coast offense. It takes some time. Anyone with half a brain knows that. If I was Colorado, I wouldn’t expect to beat Nebraska in teh next half decade or more. Oh well… at least Colorado has their good class to brag about. HA!
November 30th, 2005 on 9:37 am
Colorado is full of arrogance and hate! I just love how they made themselves look so terrible on Friday – thankfully on national television! Someone said they like the idea we never hear about NU on national television anymore; All we hear about Colorado is how they SUCK so bad! The coach is a classless scum bag, the players are dirty and the students and fans are terrible! I absolutely LOVED watching CU make fools of themselves. How pathetic! NU has beat you many times in the past and we will keep beating you in the future. Get use to being the losers that you are!!! KG

It’s all jealousy. Why else would CU be so hateful of another team. Why else would they want NU to lose all the time and not get mentioned on tv. The answer is because CU does not have the program of NU. They don’t get mentioned on National TV much so when NU isn’t either it makes them feel better. CU is like a jealous girl who can’t win the beauty contest, so all they know how to do is cry and rip the others aprart to make them feel better.

Yawn. I’m so tired of hearing about the past. Yes, Nebraska used to beat the crap out of us every year. Yes, Nebraska has more National Championships than we do. Yes, Nebraska’s history is more storied than ours is. Yes, Nebraska kicked our asses last week. I for one commend them on a well played game. However, a lot of you need to get off of your high horses. Prior to the game, there was a lot of talk about how Callahan might not make it through another year. Just because you beat a poorly coached Colorado team doesn’t mean that the Nebraska of old is back. Both programs have a lot of work to do in order to get the Big XII North back to a respectable state. I hope they both do it, it is better for everyone involved when both teams (and KSU, ISU, etc) are national powers. Playing the best makes you the best. Bob, the reason we cheer against Nebraska is because it’s a rivalry. Even the Nebraska fans can’t deny that this is now a rivalry, just look at all of the posts on this board. Ask any Ohio State fan, they alway want Michigan to lose. The students that threw stuff on the field are idiots. Hopefully the videos will allow some of them to be identified and punished. We also seem to have a large number of bad sports that don’t know how to act like good fans. If you have any suggestions on how to fix that, we’re listening. However, grouping those of us on this site with those morons is a mistake. I personally have tailgated with fans from every other Big XII team when they are visiting and welcome them to our stadium. I’m embarrased by the actions of the minority last Friday that gave our fans a black eye. But coming here, calling names, and spitting your own hate stoops you to the same level. Be better fans than that.

I will not say any thing bad about Bill Callahan any more this year after the Colorado win I think it may turn out to be good for Nebraska to hold on to Bill for some time, I would like to see the old black shirt couchs come back a bring the Black shirts back to the hard hitting team they used to be, I do not like the Idea of changing Nebraska to a west cost offence team but then if we could get some good players for the West cost combo it may work just fine.
I am a Nebraska/ Oklahoma fan but would love to see another bob devaney come to Nebraka and make the Huskers back into the hard Hitting Running game team.
December 5th, 2005 on 7:36 pm
I’m sorry but that wasn’t a minority of fans at the game that sucked. Most of your fans may not throw stuff to stop games, but you are some of the worst fans in the country nonetheless. Meanwhile, enjoy the fact that we killed you on your own turf and Texas just went and made you their b****. You’d better hope for your own sake that Barney gets canned.

I feel sorry for the Colorado fans who acted respectfully. Yes, there was a LARGE group of CU fans who embarassed the school, but it wasn’t all of them. One bad apple spoils the bunch? I can only imagine that it would be even harder for the football players to keep their dignity while their fans were throwing water bottles onto the field. And all for what? Because they were losing? Colorado had a great season going up until that game. It’s not losing that ruined it. It’s the fans. How embarassing that must be.
