You have got to be kidding me……USC has been taking everyone’s best shot to the mouth, every week, for 3 years…..and no one can best them…..doesn’t matter…..ND in South Bend….an “unbeatable” Oklahoma team last year…….Listen for a moment…Texas has beaten ONE team in the current Top 25….and their remaining game is with an unranked Colorado team….meanwhile, USC has beaten #7 Oregon (and handily I might add), #8 Notre Dame (in South Bend),a fiesty #19 Fresno State team, and still has #12 UCLA……c’mon…..you are so wrong…..it is just an absurd notion that Texas would be ranked number 1…..you must DESERVE the respect of being number 1, and if you don’t understand that USC has earned that respect, and Texas hasn’t, then you just don’t understand college football.

Well we could argue about who’s number one, but they’ll get to settle that on the field, what we should be doing is discussing how far Nebraska’s program has fallen and how important it is for the Buffs to win this game on Friday.

So harsh… Here’s my thinking… Texas has been at the top of the Buffs.tv poll since the second week of October. So this is not new for our poll. After USC struggled with both of the Arizona teams we have seen weakness in the USC defense and their ability to play sixty minutes of football. The thing is 22% of the AP and Coaches poll voters agree with me.
The other thing about polls that can be left up to discussion is this. Is it a poll about who is the best college team right now? Is it the best college team this season? Or is it the best college team of the last three seasons?
Well we can certainly agree that the poll is not for the best team of the last three seasons, and so USC’s body of work while impressive during the last two seasons has nothing to do with today’s vote.
I personally believe that the poll is about who is the best team right now. This is why the BCS poll December of 2001 was so infuriating. There was no doubt that the point the poll was taken CU was better than NU. (In the end both NU and CU choked so badly on the national stage it became a moot point) Right now I believe that Texas is playing better on both sides of the football than USC. Reggie Bush is impressive and exciting to watch, but one man does not make an entire football squad. And my Heisman vote does not affect my overall vote.
And while Texas’s schedule has not been as formidable as USC’s that is not their fault. In fact they did schedule a heavy hitter of their own and went on the road to beat Ohio State. Do you know who USC was supposed to play last weeekend? Temple – until they backed out.
I think there are a hundred reasons why either one of these teams could be #1. Texas just has the edge in my book right now.

Well, I have problems with your supporting arguments, but this is like a dog chasing his tail…..we could just go round and round. I will agree to disagree. Wow, this is what happens when Colorado alumni take up residence in Southern California…..no matter how hard you try, the Trojans just suck you in….hell, the other night I was at the LA Kings/Avalanche game, a sellout, and like every male in section 112, I was calling home every 5 minutes to get an updated score for SC after they posted that they were behind by a touchdown…..what has happened to me?….oh well, Fight On SC!….errrr, I mean, Shoulder to Shoulder we will fight, fight….fight, fight, fight!

I love that whining USC fans have been leveling against critics all season about “taking everyone’s best shot.” What the hell is that supposed to mean? Does that mean that Fresno State wasn’t really trying to beat anyone else this year? Does Texas not get anyone’s best shot? Do teams not care about beating the Longhorns? That must have been what Ohio State was thinking at the beginning of the season. “Hey, we don’t need to beat these guys. We might conceivably play USC in a bowl game, and we need to save our best shot for them.”
Everyone gives everyone their best shot every week, and if they don’t, coaches get fired.
