On the Road Again: Buffs head to Texas
filed in Pre-game on Oct.13, 2005 by Hawk
The Buffs hit the road this week to take on the 2nd ranked Texas Longhorns. Saturday’s match up is the 15th for these two teams, with the series history tied 7-7. Colorado comes into this game with recharged spirits; they have made the AP pole (24th) for the first time in 25 months after a solid performance over Texas A&M last week. The Buffs head into this game with a 2-0 conference record; the first 2-0 start they’ve had since the Big 12 Championship season of 2001. So how does this compare to that Big 12 game against Texas? “I don’t know if I’m quite ready to say it has the same feel, but it’s pretty close,” said Head Coach Gary Barnett. In his press conference, Barnett made note of how well the Texas team has come together over the past few years. “The biggest difference I’ve seen between this Texas team and the (Texas) teams we’ve played over the last four years is that they are playing really well as a team. In the past you wondered if there were enough footballs to go around to all of their guys.” He went on to discuss the skill and maturity of Quarterback Vince Young, the power of the Texas offensive line, and the seamless secondary defense that Texas brings to the table.
The Buffs come into this game as strong as ever. So far this season, the Buffalo Defense has allowed the second fewest yards after five games in the last 7 years, 1500. At the five game mark, only the 2001 Big 12 Championship team had allowed fewer yards. This weekend’s match up will be a big test for the big Buffs D-line. While they have allowed only 388 rushing yards all season, the Longhorns have an average of 289 rushing yards per game, the second best rushing offense in the nation.
And let’s not forget about the Buff’s offense. Joel Klatt seems to have tuned it up in the last few games. He enters this game ranked 2nd in the Big 12 for passing yards (249/game). Hugh Charles is averaging just under 100 rushing yards per game. The Buffs have the momentum and talent to pull this one together. So what is the biggest “X-factor” for the Buffs this weekend? Shawn Watson. As discussed before on Buffs.tv, Shawn Watson Sucks, and we suspect that “Hey diddle, diddle: Hugh Charles up the middle,” is something that the Longhorn D line has prepared for.
Kickoff is set for 1:36 MDT. The game will be broadcast regionally on ABC. KOA (850 AM) will take care of the radio. A big Buffs.tv high five to Larry Zimmer, who will be providing analysis on KOA for his 400th Colorado broadcast.
Go Buffs!
