Wow. On one hand, I wouldn’t mind if the CU-CSU matchup took a couple of years off as I’m not sure that my heart is healthy enough to continue to watch these games. On the other hand, it sure is great to have a true in-state rivalry going. Congratulations to the Buffs for another cardiac comeback despite a number of terrible mistakes. Also congratulations to CSU for playing above what many thought they were capable of this year. I hope this game doesn’t lead to a downward spiral for the Rams like it did last year. College football in Colorado is better off when all three programs are doing well. I re-watched the game on Sunday looking for specific items that I could highlight in the game summary. However, I’m still struggling to identify distinct strengths or weaknesses. Hugh Charles looked great despite some obvious nervousness. Joel Klatt continues to be a bit of a mystery, terrible in the first half, great in the second half. Offensive play calling is still suspect. Rushing defense looked good and passing defense was improved. Overall, I think this could be a pretty good team. They made some mistakes against a team the was gunning for them, but didn’t give up and survived. It always takes a couple of weeks to get a feel for what kind of team you have, but it looks promising.
Two additional notes regarding the Florida State/Miami matchup. Miami looked pretty poor in the game last night. I now like our chances a little better on September 24th. Also, the terrible kicking in that game just emphasized how great it is to have Mason Crosby and John Torp. I never worry about losing a game because of poor special teams.
