Wow, we’ve been really terrible about keeping up with CU football news. It’s hard to believe that we’re only 5 weeks away from the “Mile-High Showdown”, or whatever it is that they call the CU-CSU game. I think this would be a good time to catch up on some things that we’ve missed.
- Apparently, CU has a new AD. I can’t believe that we haven’t had a post on this move. So far, Mike Bohn has done a fantastic job turning the program around. He seems to be making a big effort to reconnect with the fan base. Hopefully, his efforts will get the department out of debt and get more poeple in the stands. Ideas like the Family Fun Section show that this administartion cares a lot more than the last one did. Neill Woelk (Boulder Daily Camera) has a good article discussing Bohn’s first 100 days here.
- The CU/CSU game has been picked up by TBS and will be played at 1:30 pm on Sep 3. The New Mexico State game will air on FSN and will be a night game starting at 8:00 pm. In addition to the game, there are plans to have fireworks during an extended halftime.
- Brandon Ceaser blew out his knee during summer conditioning and is out for the season. This is unfortunate as Brandon was expected to vie for the starting tailback job. He has two years of eligibility remaining and I’m sure he’ll be petitioning the NCAA to get the upcoming season’s eligibility back.
- Colorado has been picked by the media to win the Big XII North division once again this year. While that could be akin to winning a hot dog eating contest against a group of vegetarians, it a least offers some hope that this season could get the program moving in the right direction again. The team returns 18 starters from last year, so it will be hard for Barnett to come up with excuses if the team does not perform. In fact, Barnett was quoted saying, “I don’t know if there is an apparent weakness on our team”. I’m not sure if he remembers that Shaun Watson is his offensive coordinator.
Boy, it’s nice to be talking football again.
