Buffs face tough test against Aggies
filed in Pre-game on Oct.20, 2004
The University of Colorado Buffaloes take to the road this week to face the Texas A&M Aggies. The Aggies will have a huge home field advantage with their fans, ranking among the best in college football, known as the 12th man. Oh and the Buffs must also find a way to stop A&M quarterback Reggie McNeal.
McNeal ranks second in the Big XII conference in total offense. He is a duel threat much like Brad Smith of Missouri. While the Buffs were able to contain Smith for the most part they still lost that game. Also, Mcneal has more tools at his disposal to help him move the ball. McNeal, Courtney Lewis, and Keith Joseph provide the Aggies with three more than capable running options. When McNeal takes to the air he has experience at the wide out. Terrance Murphy and Jason Carter are both seniors and Murphy is one of the Big XII’s best pass catchers. A&M is second in the conference passing and 4th running the football so this will easily be the biggest test for the Buffs which own the worst defense in the conference.
The Aggies, however, give up their fair share of yards on defense. With Joel Klatt back under center this week hopefully the Buffs can move the ball early to stay in the game and build confidence. However, A&M gives up only 16.7 points per game. Colorado is averaging 28 points a game on offense, although this number is mostly helped by scoring 52 versus Sun Belt powerhouse North Texas.
All things considered it is going to take a stellar defensive
performance on Saturday if the Buffs are to win. The offense must also show up and get the ball in the endzone. In other words Colorado must put together their best game of the season to pull off the upset.
The game will kickoff at 11:30am mountain time. Not surprisingly the networks passed on this game for television so you’ll have to listen on the radio.

If they somehow manage to beat UT this weekend, I believe it would be possible. But, I really don’t think that can happen, with the state of the program right now.
