Title IX and Recruiting

There is plenty to talk about here. So much so that I don’t even know where to begin. Here two good articles, one by Carl Wieman and the other by Neil Woellk
It is important to note that not all of the details in these cases have been released. None of us know hwat really happened. Also all of these cases deal with real people and their lives. We want to promote discussion on this topic, but will not tolerate pointless bashing or name calling. This is a serious topic and should be treated as such..

Marc,
I couldn’t agree more. This is a very serious subject. I just hope everyone connected in the investigation will listen to all sides with an open mind and try to sort out fact from fiction. With the media frenzy I think some of the statements made have been blown way out of proportion (the media is famous for that). We definitely need an investigation, I just do not want to see a witch hunt of our athletic department. I don’t believe that Boulder is the only campus with women, parties, etc. I am not condoning the behavior, just pointing out that it happens everywhere in the country, it just so happens we are in the spotlight right now. I just hope this can be resolved as quickly as possible for everyone’s sake so we can take whatever steps we need to remedy the situation and see that it doesn’t happen again.

If the allegations were proven true, what would the consequences be for the athletic department be. Would Barnett be fired?

It doesn’t matter what happens other places. It shouldn’t happen here. The key is to focus on the alleged crime. As for parties, and drinking and what not: Hello! It’s college. Number one party school remember?
If a crime was commited, someone (preferably the rapists) need to be punished. If CU as a program has encouraged such a crime in any way, changes should be made. If blind eyes were turned away, or god forbid, the police helped the players, then heads should roll.
I’d like to see Barnett go. Frankly his record is less than inspiring, and I question his abilities as a coach, but I doubt he had anything to do with the incident. He may be a bit naive, but stupidity isn’t a crime (otherwise NUowns would be posting from jail. Seriously, don’t you have anything better to do? Aren’t there any NU boards?)

Thanks DaBuffsfan but I am not stupid. I did not mean for that comment to be taken offensivley.

Im not bashing CU now but maybe if they did not get so damn involved with these Nebraska games they could go back to being a University first. its just a football game, and most people in nebraska take it like that, its just like any other game, you guys take it way to far and its messing up your college, and not just with the Nebraska games. Oh..and last time I checked, you can post messages on any board on the internet, you cant stop that.

Jim
You are obviously an NU fan as your opinions are extremely biased. We do put additional emphasis on the Nebraska game but we also take our other games seriously too. Are you saying football is not important in Nebraska?? Excuse me, it is all you have since there are no pro teams. All they have to do it sit in their combines and think about football 365 days a year. And yes you can post messages on the internet but the people who run this board are very conscious and will delete any remarks they feel are over the line and they can ban you as well.

If you buff fans care about all the other games then how come Folsom Field really only sells out when Nebraska comes?

Hey NUownsCU Why don

That attendence figure is bad considering that you buff fans cant even fill that dinky Folsom Field. Is it that hard to fill a 53000 seat stadium. Michigan can fill a 110000 seat stadium and they have pro teams, so stop using that as an excuse.

Not that it matters, but the Red Wings, Lions, and Pistons are all professional teams from Michigan.

It has been what seems eons since my last post, but I want to comment on the current sad state of affairs at old CU.

Three years ago I showed up to Folsom Field as a pudgy freshman ready for my first game played by my future alma mater. The Organizers of this board took me in before the game started and made sure I knew all the words to the fight songs and cheers (some more polite than others but CU cheers nonetheless.) I was more than excited about the idea of having a huge football program. That day I sat through the most excruiating loss I’ve endured so far as a CU fan that turned out to cost us a chance and the national championship. I was disapointed but thats football and sometimes you lose. That same year we took down whom at the time I thought was the evil empire of college football, nebraska (clearly I was correct, the evil empire was involved in that game however we were it). Over the past two years, I’ve grown some dislike for Gary Barnett as a football coach because of some of the gametime decisions he’s made, however, once again, this is football and sometimes stuff happens. However, during the past 3 years of my early Buff career have I never been as ashamed to be a student at this university and football fan as Gary Barnett answered charges of rape with comments such as “she was terrible,” RAPE!! This man is clearly a dispicable human being. I will continue to support the Buffs till I die as it will the be the university that I pick up diploma from however, I never thought I’d say this, but after all that has been put out and I know its not exclusive, we deserve to be hit by the NCAA and hit hard. I apologize to those who are bothered by the spelling however I’m writing this while very angry after just seeing Barnett’s comments and believe it or not, I’m on my way to class, which I’m aware is unheard of for this university. Sorry for the rambling.

I too am deeply saddened by the sexual assults that have surfaced at CU. Sad that we have rapists playing for our favorite team, and our alma mater.

CU fans always love to comment on how we have had players at nebraska that have been in trouble with the law…comon everyone knows that, but the difference between the University of Nebraska and University of Colorado (sides our football team owning yours) is the fact that our university has class, and we punish our players. I also think its hilarious how sad CU fans can be. Everyone in Nebraska knows we dont live in the best state, and were fine with that. But all of you over in colorado have to make fun of us because you cant beat us in football except for a few times. I think its so funny how much you guys hate us. But i guess its common in colorado to hate any college team that can beat your team, especially as bad and as many times as our college has. Maybe it is because you all suffer from altitude sickness….it will always be a mystery to most…but funny as hell to me.
