Buffs vs. Cyclones
filed in Pre-game on Nov.14, 2003
Despite the fact that this weekend’s game bears little signifigance to the national football scene, it is tremendously important to the two teams involved.
Colorado is in a must win situation this week against Iowa State and against Nebraska in order to be bowl eligible. And let’s face it, a lot of fans shelled out seven figures to see a national championship from their new box seats at Folsom Field and they at least deserve to be able to watch a bowl game. Iowa on the other hand is desperate for just one win. Saturday is Seniors Day and the Cyclones last home game; these players are going to give it their all.
This game, like most others this season, is riding on the shoulders (literally) of Joel Klatt. He seems to be the clear leader of the team and when healthy has been able to put up solid numbers. However, it takes 11 solid performers on the field at all times to get a win. The defense seems to be gelling and beginning to show promise of the power house Coach Barnett promised. Keeping pressure on Iowa State’s QB Waye Terry Jr. will be essential. Hopefully Buff fans will see another strong game from defensive end James Garee who was responsible for two sacks during last weeks game. A question mark for CU is its secondary. While the safeties, in my opinion, have been fierce tacklers and are grooming freshman Dominique Brooks to be quite the pass picker, the corner backs always have me white knuckling my seat or screaming at the television. Iowa State’s Terry is not know for his big arm but the Buffs can’t afford any more blown coverages deep in scoring teritory. Finally, Colorado needs to step up the running attack. Klatt was an efficient passer last week but the Cyclones defense is a force and the Buffs will need a balanced attack.
Go Buffs!

Do we even still have running backs? Maybe we should switch the 5 wide attack of Texas Tech where our favorite screen pass to Bloom can be a “running play”.

Yeah! We won! We won! We dominated a team for the first time all year. The Nebraska game is going to be huge! I know Iowa state played with a back up QB but how ’bout our defense! Who let the dogs out!? Woof woof woof woof woof!

We won, Nebraska lost…a great day indeed. But will this loss make Nebraska that much more focused for us in two weeks? Not that they need much incentive for we beat them the last two years.

Did anyone catch that Bruins game?!?! The best team in the nation for sure! I don’t think GoBruinz will have much to say this week.
How ’bout those Buffs?!?! One more win and we can grab a bowl. Huskers at home, I love our chances. Go BUFFS!!

What’s with eliminating the marshmallows at folsom field?! Not only are the boulder authorities attempting to rid of one of the greatest CU traditions, it’s just another attempt to kill the number 1 party school. Lame. Hey fellow students we gotta keep that alive! GO BUFFS! We whoop the cornholes on ABC! Can’t wait, see you in the rowdiest student section in college football!

At halftime, the entire student section erupts in a marshmellow fight. It’s quite a sight to see. It embodies the spirit of college football, and despite this, security at folsom is attempting to crush this great CU tradition.

Two things about the marshmallows:
I don’t think it can be viewed as a “tradition”. The marshmallow fights are only about 4 years old and really are an extension of the old beer cup fights that use to erupt when they still sold beer in the stadium.
From what I understand, the real concern from the administration’s point of view isn’t the marshmallows themselves. Apparently, a number of people have gotten injured because people have put batteries and coins in the marshmallows. If that’s really the case, then it’s the student’s fault that this “tradition” is being stopped.

yeah 4 years old now, a future tradition! I guess stuff like that’s bound to happen due to jackasses everywhere, kinda like the risk of people gettin trampled in storming the field, kinda worth the risk
