After another dismal performance last Saturday night in Lubbock, the Buffs now look forward to a Missouri team that is 6-2 overall, 2-1 in it’s last three (including a win over Nebraska, a loss to Oklahoma, and a thrashing of Texas Tech), and coming off of a bye week. Because I’m having a hard time getting excited for this game, I can only come up with one key on each side of the ball.
Offense:
I’ll say this for the millionth time, get Jeremy Bloom the ball. Did everyone notice how Texas Tech used Wes Welker last weekend? He was returning punts (1 for a TD), running the ball, and catching passes (another TD). He was all over the field. Jeremy Bloom saw limited action and ran the ball once on an extremely predictable end around to the short side. (Side Note: Why are we always running to the short side? We have a guy with unbelievable talent in the open field and we call plays that limit his space. Baffling.) I hope Barnett and Watson realize that they only have three games left to use him, as I can’t imagine Bloom will be back next season.
Defense:
Find a way to stop Brad Smith. Smith is currently averaging 317.4 yards of total offense over the last three games. It appears the key is to keep him inside as he is most dangerous on the perimeter. The Buffs need an encore performance of their game against Missouri last year when thry held Smith to 49 yards on the ground.
Special Teams
Let’s just try not to play any special teams. At least one crappy play every game.
