Eric Crouch quits… AGAIN!
filed in Rivals on Jul.22, 2003
Crotch quits again. Still with zero downs played in the NFL he couldn’t hack it with the Packers this time. His coach Mike Sherman thought there was little chance of him making the team anyway saying, “We put him back there a couple times and he wasn’t natural, put it that way”. So instead of getting cut from the Green Bay practice squad, Crotch, a natutal born quitter, did what he does best.
Yes, “Glory Days”, was heard playing again as he hopped in his truck and high tailed it back to his mom’s house. Bummer man.

yall haters just mad eric crouch wont just settle for any postions on a football team and why u care aabout him any way the big red still gonna beat the colorado this year

Eric Crouch, who threw more interceptions than touchdowns during his Heisman season, did not take home the hardware for being the best quarterback in college football, but rather for being the best (big-time program, offensive)player in college football. And even though I personally think Rex Grossman should have won that year, I can understand why Crouch did.
Earlier comparisons of EC to Mike Vick and Doug Flutie are ill-advised, as Vick is a running QB, not a throwing RB, and Doug Flutie was a savvy QB who could read defenses (more TDs than INTs) who happened to be short and blessed with the ability to scramble.
Someone needs to sit this guy down and tell him that he can’t walk into an NFL camp and expect to compete for a quarterback position. What is also apparent is the fact that he is not quite the athlete he was thought to be, as evidenced by his inability to field punts/kicks/passes or run crisp routes. He is a project as a quarterback. If he really wants to play QB, he should go to Canada, NFL Europe, or at least happily run the scout team offense for an NFL team. If he wants to play QB in the NFL, he needs to focus on the necessary steps to take to overcome the stigma against Husker signal callers. Maybe the first time (with the Rams) you can call it “making a decision to leave,” but the crap he pulled with the Packers is further cememting in the minds of the majority of Americans the image of Crouch as a quitter.
BTW, I hate the Packers, and would like nothing more than for them to waste a roster spot on EC.
July 23rd, 2003 on 2:25 pm
How can anyone be surprised about Crouch’s voluntary departure. Quitting IS natural for ol’ #7.
In 1998, Crouch quit the Husker football team for a few days…because he lost the starting QB position to Bobby Newcombe. Frank had to drive to Omaha and kiss Crouch’s butt to get him to return to Lincoln.
Mike Martz and Mike Sherman didn’t care enough to stoop down to Solich’s level.

Many said that Kordell wasn’t an NFL QB but he worked at it and did what the team asked him to do until he got his chance. He’s now in his ninth season. EC is a spoiled brat who quits when he doesn’t get his way.

PK, we don’t have to try that hard to piss you off. It’s actually pretty easy these days. We also enjoy it.

I wonder why all of you Colorado fans care so much about Eric Crouch. I don’t put forth that much effort to hating anyone that came out of Colorado,Oklahoma, Miami or where ever. Colorado fans are the worst fans in the country. You all should take a step back and realize how stupid you are being. Just shut up and support your team. Go Big Red!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

In a recent ranking of nations top 25 stadiums, Folsom came in at 24. The thing that stands out the most is probably the “Fans” category, which is based on a 1-10 scale (10 being highest). In this category, CU scored a 4, placing it dead last among the top 25. As a die hard buffs fan, I have to ask, where is the fan support?
July 31st, 2003 on 8:04 am
Hey PK wondering why we care so much about crouch? Ask yourself this, Why do you and many other husker fans care so much about checking out a COLORADO BUFFALO sites and what we have to say. There is your poorest worst fans in the contry. We talk about crouch because he is the most overrated QB ever (accually a running back). On top of that he is a quiter and a whining baby. Suck it huskers you suck.
go buffs!

Hey nbuffs, I did not come looking for this website, I came across it searching for status on Eric Crouch after I heard that he joined the Packers. Sickend by what I saw, I decided to stick up for the Big Red Nation. Oh by the way, when has Eric Crouch ever whined about anything? He was always a quite, well behaved athlete who could always get the huskers a victory. Go big Red!!!!!!!!!!
August 1st, 2003 on 4:54 pm
PK, we don’t care about Crouch. We’re just calling it as we see it. Also, like many husker fans do to us, we like to knock you when we can. Also, after the “Sal is dead” chant in Lincoln in ’92, attacking 1 of our players after the game in ’01, you have no room to call anyone the worst fans in the country.
August 1st, 2003 on 8:38 pm
neb_buff i could have called it any better. You beat be to the punch on PK. Nebraska fans need to open their eyes and look at themselves before they start saying who is the worst fans. And for the record i am not saying that all husker fans are bad or “the worst fans”, i have met very good nice NU fans in fact i married one! Any there are some horrible CU fans as well as NU fans and KSU and well this list could get rather long…So PK take the corn cob out of your mouth and stick it back in your a$$ where it belongs and where you found it in the first place.
Go Buffs i predict 65-0 in Boulder this time!
August 2nd, 2003 on 3:01 pm
Attacked a CU player in 2001? Sounds made up, because in 2001 the game was played in Cololrado. But I also have stories of bad CU fans. I have heard such things as NU fans being pissed on in Boulder, and having bottles thrown at them. I have even heard of tires of cars with NU licence plate covers beeing slashed. That hardly compares to a Sal is dead chant. Im predicting an NU victory in Boulder.
August 2nd, 2003 on 4:46 pm
Hey nbuffs – open up and I will sh$t that cob into your mouth. You buffs do that so well given all the practice we have given you over the last 20+ years. It is telling that you devote your conversation on the website to Nebraska players instead of your own. You’ve been dominated so long, you have to get it out of your system – we understand. Hell, you and neb_buff even start your names with our “N” – you can’t help yourselves. As for you neb_buff, I count no fewer than 4 mispellings in one of your short emails, followed by the unbelievably eloquent”suck it huskers you suck”. Brilliant. I can see why you and nbuff are on the same page.

Like I said PK, I still think it suspicious that you still keep coming back to a COLORADO BUFFALO site. We don
August 3rd, 2003 on 7:57 pm
Nbuffs- You send Rude and derogatory comments at me such as your diarrhea of the mouth blather about me sticking corn in my a$$, and I did the same to you. Thats not what most Nebraskans would do, but CU fans have pushed me to that point and plus, I am a Nevadan. HUSKER PRIDE NATION WIDE!!!!!!!!!!!
August 4th, 2003 on 11:42 am
PK- I send rude comments where they are needed and due. I attack people like you when they attack me or others like me on a board where people like you dont belong and stick out like a sore thumb. It is sad that you have pulled this thread so far off topic. The topic is Eric Crouch Quits not Loud Mouth Husker fans from Nevada. From now on I am done retaliating to your childish comments. Its just too bad you keep coming back to a Buff site where you are NOT WANTED. I am done stooping to your very low level.
Go back to your husker sites and stop coming here. You are the definition of a classless fan.
Good day to you and see you in November.

NBuffs,
I am also a CU alumni/fan who lives in Nebraska so I know exactly what you are talking about. Hopefully PK will heed your advice and stay away from a Colorado fan website. On a more important note, I think this will finally be Gary Barnett’s year to win his first game! GO BUFFS AND BEAT THE RAMS.
August 5th, 2003 on 11:39 am
Actually, the best thing to happen to both Nebraska and Colorado this year is Eric Crouch quitting to give them something to talk about other than the beating the #1 ranked Sooners will lay down on the hapless Bufskers. What’s next – are you losers going to wax poetic about the spirit of Sal or hold a contest for what day CU running backs coach Eric B. will weigh over 300 pounds and then how long it will take after that for his first heart-attack? Are there any two bigger loser coaches in the country than Barnett and Solich? The Big 12 North is a joke just like the UNL and CU programs.
August 5th, 2003 on 11:46 am
OU#1 I will see you on OCT 25th and we will not lose to you again.
BuffBaby I will be at the CSU game and i have a good feeling we will win this one.
Buffs together do or die forever
August 5th, 2003 on 12:16 pm
FYI, Mr. OU#1, Eric B is not the running backs coach this year, he left Colorado last spring for another team. Our running backs coach is Shawn Simms. You might try getting your facts straight before trash talking.
August 5th, 2003 on 12:37 pm
Hey OU#1, The Huskers don’t even play OU this year. We go on rotation ever since the Big 8 became the Big 12. The only way we would play OU is if OU and NU went to the Big 12 championship. (You might want to get your facts straight before saying the Sooners will beat the “Bufskers”). Plus, The odds of OU and NU both going to the Big 12 championship are not very high. The Big 12 North will be tough as usual, and OU still has problems beating Oklahoma State. GO BIG RED!!!!!
August 5th, 2003 on 12:46 pm
PK that is some of the best stuff i have heard out of you. Your luck you dont have to play OU. We have our hands full with the schedule this year.
BuffBaby- I really didnt know what OU#1 was talking about with Eric B. I was 99.99% sure he went to UCLA. Why would we give a crap about him anymore. Yes he was the running back for CU’s Championship team but he sure ditched us in the spring. Oh well i know we will be just fine if not better off without him.
Go Buffs.
August 5th, 2003 on 1:07 pm
Nbuffs,
I think you are right that he went to UCLA, and you also right that we are better off without him. What I know about Shawn Simms, I like. I think he will be a great asset to the team but only time will tell. GO BUFFS!!!!
August 8th, 2003 on 2:08 am

Colorado vs. Nebraska
Series: Nebraska leads 43-15-2 (2001)
“They’re talking about the fact that CU isn’t ranked in the preseason top-25 for the first time since 1998.”
“This is the first time since 1968 that NU has not been in the top 25.”
1998 vs. 1968
Now don’t try and tell me that CU has been the more dominant team! There is a big difference between CU football and NU football, and that is that Nebraska is more consistant and classy about how they play it.
September 4th, 2003 on 9:22 am
Hey dot dot dot,
(I can’t believe I am getting sucked back into this 6 week old discussion)
You are absolutely right that NU has the edge in the win loss category. What I am curious about is why you choose to use the 2001 numbers? You still have better numbers even with one more loss.
And if I’m hearing you right …, it’s all about the wins. In that case Michigan wipes the floor with your sorry, little Huskers.
Where do you get off talking about the Huskers playing football in a more “classy” manner than the Buffs? Was Lawrence Phillips more “classy” on the field than the Buffs? Or is the Option more “classy”? What exactly do you mean?
If you want to talk about class you better leave the players out of this and stick to making up anecdotes about the CU fans with the rest of the Nebraskans trolling this board.

2 questions.
1) Would anyone like to see Eric Crouch ever play in an NFL game?
2) Do you think Crouch would have success in NFL Europe at QB, RB, or WR?

I grew up in Lincoln, then spent the past 8 years in Boulder. I know plenty of fans from both sides, and all my friends and family are hardcore for one team or the other. But we all watch it together, and over the years I’ve been on the winning and losing team.
The fans in football make the game almost more than the teams do, and the CU-NU rivalry compares to none other in my opinion. And nobody gets up more for any other game (if you’re a CU or NU fan). I am one of those rare breeds; still all Red at heart, but a Buff fan at the same time, if you can believe that (I have to stick with my roots). So every year I look forward to the game, hoping the Huskers win that game but hoping CU has a great season. But if they don’t, it doesn’t ruin my year.
The best part of football cheering for your team in a ferocious, hard-fought classic football game. The essence of this game is great, and I see no reason for making this priceless game of football into a childish game of ‘who can be the biggest ass’ that will likely go on forever. I say grow up, and get back to what’s really important. So many Buffs fans literally hate me for being a Huskers fan (and I’m sure it’s the same for buffs’ters in Lincoln), but the greatest part of the game is enjoying incredible football for love of the game, and not being an ass about either side.
Everybody knows there are a fair share of bad fans for any team. But I consider ‘class,’ as was mentioned, to be good-sportsmanship, both good winners and losers. These are 2 quality teams with a pricless past, and I am hopeful to see another historical game again this year (though I still have to say go big red). The more exciting the better. Football forever!!!
P.S. I was entertained to say the least reading all these comments, and I realize that most people just like to talk trash about their team. I do it too, but maybe you should talk trash with some class and some respect. Let’s get serious, guys.

I feel that Eric Crouch is one of the greatest Quarterbacks besides Tommy Frazier to ever come out of the University of Nebraska. Crouch is an option Qb he is one of the Greatest i ever seen play i have never seen a QB run the Trap, Trap option package better than he. Who ever bad mouths Eric crouch should be shot and killed for those words even coming out of their mouths. Eric Crouch deserved the 2001 Heisman Trophy that year in college football he was everthing that Trophy stands for in college football. Do not sit here on your computers and tell me rex grossman, Ken dorsey or even joey Harrington should of got that Trophy that year all great Qb’s that i have great respect for but Eric Crouch truely did deserve that Trophy and all the people that can’t stand Nebraska Football i understand the hate but for the people that love college football for the heart, work and the desire that makes up college football please give give this man respect . This is a man that learned and was a student to Tommy Frazier and we kno who tommy frazier is . Tommy frazier coached Eric Crouch at Nebraska i bet you haters dont kno that do you. Most importantly i have a Question “Are you Eric Crouch”? NO ok so dont judge him because you dont know him and you dont know the hardships he peobaly went through i know none of us were at the NFL’S football camps so dont judge him only god can judge a person thats why i dont listen to those stupid sports talk radio shows all they do is sit around and judge and judge like they really know that person and they were on the team give me a break. Eric crouch is a Quarterback not an running back receiver pace kicker or cheerleader he was recruited with a full scholarship to the University of Nebraska to play QUARTERBACK he left the rams not because he sucks or is a quiter but because they put at reciever which he doesnt play and they have Kurt warner and ten backs for him The NFL does this to option Quarterbacks Scott Frost for example if Michael Vick at virginia tech ran more option in there play book they would of stuck him some where in the pile too.but am not surprised coming from Colorado fans i would expect this little kid name calling on Eric Crouch. The way i see it is this Nebraska Football is most hated just like the Chicago Bulls of the early 90′S with michael jordan.
October 22nd, 2003 on 1:29 pm
Hey Paul,
Nice Virginia Woolf impression. That was one of the better stream of consciousness rants I have seen here.
And on a football note, why is it that some people believe it is their God given right to play QB? Do you ever hear players at other positions whine when the coach decides they should be at a different position? TE to G, WR to TE, DB to SS. Get over yourselves QB’s. And as for Frost? He’s playing in the NFL. Something that Crouch can’t even dream about until he grows up.
October 22nd, 2003 on 5:08 pm
has anybody but me noticed that heisman winners are always on the losing team lately ???!!!
2002:Ken Dorsey, Miami. Miami lost to Ohio State.
2001:Eric Crouch, Nebraska. Nebraska lost to Miami.
2000:Chris Weinke, Florida State. Florida State lost to Oklahoma.
1999:Micheal Vick, Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech lost to Florida State.
October 23rd, 2003 on 4:55 pm
hey Katfish i know that scott frost is on the jets and plays free safety. Crouch does have a god given right look at the man’s talent ok listen up he recieved a FULL scholar to the university of nebraska ok i dont know about you but he must of did something on the field to earn that in high school ok. College give it up 2001 was eric crouch’s year ok the guy was superman check it 2001 hesisman trophy winner 2001 davey 0″brien award winner 2001 big 12 conference offensive player of the year 2001 preseason heisman candidate the stats set 2 school records tied 3 and owns most rushing yards by a quaterback (3,434) yards passing 2,971 and countless other honor mention’s i mean the guy was the complete package everbody know it even if they dont want to tell the truth and keep dogging the guy. i just want people to stop hating on him leave him be he played college football he was great . In the NFL he made his decison that he felt was right for him he is always a QB he didnt want to become a slash or Randle EL or a woody dansler. you make like yeah i was at the football camp and i was talking and he said this about crouch you people dont know shit what are people sports center what are lee corso you there at practice so just cool off and get off crouch’s @#$$ ok. I am just here to keep his name clear college wise NFL regards it has been noted that many option QB’S are going to hack it or Qb that have a running offensive in college. Kordell stewart almost didnt make on to the steelers they werent sure about him. Ok iam going to stop talking about eric crouch now because first he is not playing anymore second i am never going to get through the pain in the @#$$ colorado fans and lastly Nebraska is 6-1 yeah so am looking foward to the future 2003 so lets move on from this issue this goes for ever body and start some more good football talk cause this Crouch issue has been going on since July 22, 2003 i think its time for something. P.S. kat dont talk about how i write ok PROFESSOR I NOT WRITING A REASEARCH PAPER FOR YOU ASS
October 24th, 2003 on 9:10 am
Paul-
No one here is claiming that Eric Crouch was a bad college QB. We all know that he was a very good player. However, his skills at the QB posistion don’t transfer to the NFL because he can’t throw worth a damn. That’s what this thread is about, that he has a chance to play in the NFL but is to hard headed to realize that he can’t do it as a QB.
Secondly, no one asked you to write a research paper. You are welcome to write in the manner that you are most comfortable. However, keep in mind that it is painful to try to read a post that has sentences that span six lines and unbelievably screwed up capitalization. Your points may be better made if the grammer was a bit better. Just a suggestion.
October 25th, 2003 on 1:43 am
The posted remarks here are not all english class formated. Many of the posted football comments are just a stream of consciousness paragraphs so i just went with the flow. Gampp you have been very insightful i was just defending Eric crouch as a college football player because if you read the other comments about eric crouch people are badgering him as a player. Thank you

look who’s talking about grammer “1999 Micheal vick”. Check yourself its Michael vick
October 25th, 2003 on 1:47 pm
OK OK I guess you can say I am the resident expert here…
I am an aquaintance of the man, and have been since we were playing peewee ball….
The thing was, I played against him several times in peewee leages, then 3 times in HS, and played WITH him during the HS All-Star Shrine Ball game.
The simple fact of the matter is that Eric is/was a type of player that is obselete these days. His entire attitude and style of play is more reminicent of the guys who wore leather helmets, versus the pro players of today. This is a guy who plays with the attitude, “Gimme the ball and I’ll put it in the endzone, anyone feel like coming along with me?”
RD….this is probably one of the few times I must disagree with you. Hitting has never been a factor with this guy. He is as physically tough as they come. Always has been. He would literally choose each play whether or not he was going to juke you, or run you over. He could do either at any given moment. I have seen him make the swiftest players grab air and some of the toughest players put on thier ass.
As for his heart and his pride….he has never lacked in this area….EVER. This guy has had chronic shoulder problems, to the point of necessary surgeries a couple times. He swallowed the pain and still delivered first downs, victories, and TD’s. Even in HS he played with chronic pain he simply shrugged off…because there were games to win.
The NFL is an entirely different game then college…both physically and offensively. Some players simply cannot or will not make the adjustments necessary…such as Eric. He was born with a lightning quick set of legs, a tough as nails attitude, but not the EYE, ARM, or HEIGHT of a pro-style QB. Come on guys….he was perfect fit for Nebraska football! I KNEW that he would never materialize in the NFL.! I KNEW he could never adjust to throwing the ball well, seeing the field, sitting in a pocket. Its just not him. His MAX number of throws in HS was 4…yes…4 times a game. College was slightly more….but you know as well as I the style of passing game prevalent at NU….pass sometimes, but if the TE isnt open…tuck it and run!
MASS…As for being stupid for choosing not to make the league minimum and doing his time….really holds no water here either. Yes….he can make the league minimum and make 150k a year. But if he stays in NE….he can do ANYTHING…trust me….ANYTHING he wants to do here in NE….and make the same if not MORE money. If you played for NU, let alone a star, here in this state….YOU ARE SET FOR LIFE. The entire state takes NU football so seriously, that if you are a former player, you are taken care of for life. He can now pick and choose ANYTHING he wantsa to do here…his phone will ring off the hook.
The guy has a girl and a daughter and more opportunity than any one of us will ever have. What you guys are failing to see here is that it is just a game. He is not walking away from success…rather…just the opposite. Even ritired…he is set. Even if he walked BECAUSE of a lack of playing time, or not starting, or having to play reciever….it doesnt matter. If you dont want to do it…dont do it. He has the record books and a Heisman. What else is there to accomplish?
Plus…he was on the radio this morning…the Packers were going to release him no matter what he did anyway. That game can get old.
>>
Mass and GX…Take a look at where Nebraska lies in Academic All-Americans standing and compare it to your local or famous University….we are not bumpkins. A police state? YES But not definately not a group of half-wit inbreeds

Paul,
No one hear can or will deny that Crouch is a wonderfully gifted athlete. Anyone who tries to make that argument is nuts. My point was more to the fact that he isn’t playing football in any respect now. If he doesn’t want to, that is fine. It just seems to me that because he has gone through training camp with two different teams that he still has some amount of desire to play. Perhaps I’m just jealous that he isn’t using the gifts that I never had.

Eric Crouch doesn’t even play for Nebraska anymore. Why can’t you guys start talking abour current players. I am working my butt off in Lincoln and am getting no respect.

Hey Fluffs great game this year! You couldn’t beat one of the most talent ridden Nebraska teams in your own back yard. Nice work! Keep talking your big game and hopefully one day the Fluffs can back it up. Once Pelini gets the job, the Huskers will roll again and take over the Big 12 North as usual. Barnett needs to be canned if the Fluffs want to get back to their winning ways, he’s way too inconsistent. Good luck in Lincoln in 2004 HAHA! That will be ugly.

Sorry, Once Callahan gets the job, the Huskers will roll again. There is no question the Huskers will be a dominant team in the Big 12 North for years to come. They have compiled 3 or 4 of the top 5 recruiters of all time, so watch out Little Fluffs, ol’ Barnett will be looking for a new gig in a few months. Poor guy! Pederson may look like a sleezy salesman but keep in mind what he did at Pitt and he’s only gotten better….GO BIG RED!!!!!

You talk all the shit you wanna about this year’s game, but at the end of the day, I can tell my wife from livestock (half of you who can’t is probably because you just married livestock) keep on truckin bugeaters

BUff4life you are obviously jealous that we have an actual coach.

buff4life – I don’t have to say the buffs suck, it’s a given. No one needs to remind you how sorry that football program is and how pathetic your fans truly are. The numbers speak for themselves, ie: attendance, games won, championships etc… Like I said before the Huskers will take over the Big 12 North once again and I would compare my sexy wife to your plump siginificant other any day. Take care my friend.
Go Big Red!!!!!
