Non-conference schedule
filed in Scheduling on May.07, 2003
Has anybody noticed that the Buffs upcoming non-conference schedule is pretty tough. Actually the whole schedule looks pretty tough, but let’s jsut talk non-conference for now. Here’s what it looks like.
CSU @ Mile High (it will always be Mile High)
UCLA @ Boulder
Washington State @ Boulder
CU @ Florida State
What have we done to deserve this? We’ve done nothing wrong, it’s just that the Buffs never let up. And we don’t play the pnasies that Nebraska and Kansas State do, as a result, we have won our division the last two years. That matter aside the Nebraska has scheduled Penn State again this year and has added Cal to the usual South East Troy States.
So do you think we can win in this kind of schedule? Are we going to be lucky to survive 2-2 going into the conference opener with Baylor? Or could we just go undefeated and with a full head of steam heading into the meat of the Big XII schedule?
I tend to think it could go either way or it could even look as bad as it did several years ago when we left the non-conference schedule winless. The key game is the CSU game. We need to set the tone going into the season. The BUffs have to win versus CSU otherwise they may not get the shipp righted until we are in Waco.

Agreed that the CSU game is critical. CU has got to find a way to win that one. UCLA and Washington State are definitely winnable. And no one seems to know if we’re gonna see a swaggering FSU or a sagging FSU.
4-0 isn’t out of reach. Would you be happy with 2-2? 3-1?
I think the Buffs win the first three after a close call in Denver. I’m afraid FSU might be on the warpath by the time the Buffs head south.

Here is what I think-
There is a strong possibility that some of the non-conference games could go opposite the BUffs, however, I think we will come out of it better than 2-2 lending not only some steam to the CU boys but also some much needed respect. Everyone respects “difficulty of schedule” and with those non-con games plus being in the Big 12 (one of the hardest conferences in the NCAA. I agree with MArc, the key is CSU. It is curcial to come off with a win and after last years defeat, they Mighty Buffs need to be on their A-game. We sometimes tend to be an emotional team, and the confidence to go big against UCLA and Washington is going to play a big part. Once that hump has been cleared, I think they will have the drive to pay well against FSU. A win there? Maybe, maybe not. I have to wonder about UCLA though- A good team no question, but last year we beat them in the Rose Bowl, do you think they can hold their own in the legendary Folsom? Are they really that tough? I will be there to witness.

Although I enjoy seeing us play some of the best teams in the country, we need to stop scheduling so many in the same year. With the BCS system, losses hurt more than strength of schedule helps. We need to be schuduling two difficult teams and two not so tough teams. However, the schedule is what it is. I’m not as optimistic as everyone else here. With an unproven O-Line and starting a QB with no experiece, I think we’ll be lucky to go 2-2 with 0-4 not out of the question. It could be a long year.

I know that the schedule is tough, but there are some good things that come out of it, first look at all the T.V time the school gets, second playing the tough teams get’s us ready for the Big XII conference. And I see that we are not even in the top 25 for the spring poll. Let’s use that for some motivation boys. The defense will be very solid, the offense will suprise everyone, with Joel Klatt under center. And if we can get a kicker that can get us 3 points when we get inside the opponets 35 yard line, we will win the Big XII Championship again. One last thing Roll Buffs Roll.

roll up the mighty score on CSU, or else the buffs might be a little bit of trouble. I’d be happy with a 2-2 record coming out of the FSU game. the buffs will have to get their o-line figured out but i know the defense will come up big early on. can’t wait till the season begins. see ya at folsom.

Our tough non-conference schedule is what seperates us from the pansies up north. As long as we continue to pound it out in a tough non-conference schedule, we will continue to win the North Division. Although it does make it very hard to win a National Championship with a schedule like this, if CU goes 4-0, then sweeps the Big 12, we’re in the hunt! Rough ‘em up, rough ‘em up, GO CU!!!!
