Cyclones vs. Buffaloes

ISU vs. CU
If the Buffs win this Saturday it’s time to start making reservations for Houston. It’s that simple. Coming to Folsom field Saturday night is an Iowa State team that is barely hanging on for dear life. Coming off a 58-7 dismantling at the hands of K State, the cyclones continue their death march through the BIG XII. Just a few, short weeks ago Iowa St. was riding as high as could be. Senneca Wallace was one of the favorites for the Heisman, they were ranked in the top 10 for the first time in school history and they had just put up their biggest defeat over Nebraska since 1899. Then the road trip through places such as Norman, OK, Austin, TX, and Manhattan, KS started. In losses to OU, UT and KSU the cyclones have been outscored 128-20. Saturday’s game will show exactly what Iowa St. is made of.
The Buff’s best strategy is to come out and “LET IT RIP” as their new motivational t-shirts pronounce. The new slogan is intended to inspire a barely controlled explosiveness down the stretch. By jumping out to an early lead the Buffs can shatter what is left of the Cyclones frail psyche and at the same time work on honing the killer instinct that has been absent in recent games. That will mean stopping Seneca Wallace who must be drooling over thoughts of a Colorado defense that was lit up by other mobile quarterbacks like Bill Whittemore and Ell Roberson. Although Wallace cannot afford to have a repeat of last week’s performance. Wallace was picked twice and fumbled another time. CU’s defense would dearly love a chance to show off it’s opportunistic streak. Look for Heisman candidate Chris Brown to have a big day against a mediocre ISU run defense. Also look for Iowa St. to be slowed down by the highest grass in the BIG XII.
Home crowd, you should enjoy this one. Not only is it a night game, but it will be the last time you will see G Wayne Lucier, OL Justin Bates, FB Brandon Drumm, DE Dylan Bird, DT Tyler Brayton, PK Pat Brougham, WR Jason Burianek, QB Zac Colvin, OT Josh Foster, C Ryan Gray, LB Zach Griffith, QB Robert Hodge, LB Joey Johnson, LB Aaron Killion, OT Rawle King, P Mark Mariscal, SS Kory Mossoni, WS Rod Sneed, CB Donald Strickland, LB Drew Wahlroos and TE Beau Williams at Folsom Field. It has been one hell of a ride. Remember, some of these guys came in with Rick, but they are leaving as Buffaloes..
Word of caution, this may be the last time you get to see Chris “Touchdown” Brown too. We don’t want to start any hysteria here, but what would you do if you led the league in rushing, your entire offensive line, and the best fullback in the nation were leaving the team next year? And by the way the non-conference schedule next year is worse than 2 years ago, containing FSU, WSU, UCLA and CSU. What would you do?

Kind of makes you cringe to think that it may be the last time we see Touchdown Brown. It seems like we just got to know him.
Don’t leave us Chris!

I was just revisiting the schedule for next year. I know we pride ourselves on having a tough non-con schedule, but really, what was the motiviation for this?
CSU – Denver
UCLA – Boulder
Washington St. – Boulder
Floridad St. – Tallahassee
If we make it in to October alive it will be a serious achievement.

I like the sound of LET IT RIP and I think it is important that the fans live by the same credo as the team. We need to show up, be loud and let Chris Brown know that we love him. Chris needs to feel the rush of being part of college football and love it enough to stick around for another year.

Not to mention its his SENIOR year! Didn’t anyone ever tell him that is the best year? You get all of the classes you want, (nothing beofore 11) the parties are better, you can go to the bars… Way more fun than the stupid NFL.

Not my last time to see Touchdown Brown. I will be in attendance at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln when he shows Nebraska that it’s possible to score six touchdowns against one team two years in a row. I also plan on being in Houston to watch him rush for over 100 yards for the second time in one season against the vaulted OU defense as the Buffs pull another Big 12 Championship upset.

Brown has already said he’s coming back next year. He said his mom would kill him if he didn’t stay for his senior year.

Whoa, there! CU historically has had lots of trouble with night games at Folsom Field. I distinctly remember a warm, autumn night game against Baylor in the early 1990′s where the mighty Buffs faltered. CU can’t afford to take ISU for granted, especially with ISU trying to save some face after last week’s humiliation. Nothing is more dangerous than a beaten dog.

Actually, CU is 13-3-1 at home under the lights. I agree that ISU is dangerous both because they are very good and because they are very desperate. I still think we should be able to handle the Cyclones.
