Chris Brown Plays the Piano
filed in Opinion on Nov.13, 2002
Well, actually, I don’t know if he does or not. But we might get to find out. ESPN was in Boulder on Tuesday to do a feature on the Heisman candidate running back. I imagine the piece will run on ESPN’S College Gameday this Saturday.
While we are speaking of people coming to town, representatives from the Alamo, Holiday, Orange, Sugar and Tangerine Bowls will be in attendance at the ISU-CU game this weekend. How do I get to be a bowl representative? That has got to be one of the sweetest jobs ever.
UPDATE
Finally Brown is receiving some attention. It took Gary Barnett pulilng out the guns yesterday, but they appear to be working. He spoke directly at the leaders of the College Football Nation.
“It all comes down to who is hyped at the beginning of the season by the media,” Barnett said. “And who does it? ESPN. The guys at ESPN have more control over who wins the Heisman than anybody else, because they’re the ones talking about it all the time…” Barnett continued “It’s whoever the guys are in the national media that have access to more voters, which are the guys on Thursday night. Whoever they want, and decide, that’s who’s going to get it. So, Lee (Corso), Herb (Kirk Herbstreit), Chris (Fowler). Chris (Brown) is a heck of a football player. I think he’s the best running back in the country. I don’t know what else to say. He’s doing a great job, he’s carrying us, he’s leading the country in rushing.”
Well I think he is correct Brown hasn’t received much national attention. I believe Sports Center even said that Brown’s 211 yards were just “average“. Well that all started to change yesterday. Gameday interviewed Brown, Sports Illustrated interviewed Brown. He also started appearing in a few more national articles. You have to read this one by Randy Hill. He asks the media to “please realize this guy (Touchdown Brown) appears to be less inviting to tackle than a five-year buildup of bathtub grout.”
Neil Woelk continues to ring the Heisman bell too. His last column is spectacular as always. Brown still a contender for Heisman.
We’ll keep you updated as more articles start to pop up.

Joey Harrington admitted to being gay in the latest Sports Illustrated article, “These Kids Can Play.” He was quoted as saying, “do you honestly think someone that plays the jazz piano can be straight? Well maybe, but not after they talk about it for 8 hours straight (no pun intended) during the Fiesta Bowl!” I only bring this up because if you haven’t noticed the last 3 player personal stories on Gameday have been about as demeaning as the Joey Harrington debacle last year. I just hope they don’t screw our hero over like that.

Joey is married now, so you still thinks he’s gay.

Only if Joey still thinks he’s gay. Ted Haggard was a married evangelical preacher and he was gay.
For the record the thrust of my comment in 2002 was about negative player profiles on Gameday (and a bit of a dig on Harrington) not some sort of anti-gay rhetoric. I support the gay and lesbian community 100%.

If Joey is gay, its nobody business. By the way, just because a man is married doesn’t mean he’s not gay. Some tried to hide it by getting married.

Consider morality and example not privacy.
Obviously a number of people luv Joey Harrington in a good or bad way as you care to believe about him speculating or accusing where none may be needed.
Why is it we fans have to have all including personal business. Don’t we have personal business of our own to talk about ourselves in?
It might be a good idea to return a little bit to just letting a girl or guy, read Joey, just show up and play for themselves and in front of us as fans of theirs or the game being played and at the same time not having to worry about their own personal stuff their mindset is split over trying to conceal or prove as incorrect.
More winners’ parades and happiness might come to
town that way. Theirs and ours as fans.
