Tackling & Toughness – KU

“Watching” a game on the radio is hard enough, but then trying to rate the tackling of the game, well that is damn near impossible. Keep winning Colorado, so you stay on TV and these awards can have some meaning. Another option, Dave Plati, recognize Buffs.tv as a media source and give us press passes to all of the games.
And the winners are …..
TACKLING: Joey Johnson
Near the end of the third quarter Joey Johnson stops the quarterback and forces the pitch and then tackles the runner who caught the pitch for a loss. The way that play looked in my mind, it was damn impressive. It showed the hustle and the drive that we need to have if we are going to stop Quentin Griffin in November.
TOUGHNESS: Chris Brown
309 yards. 309 yards. Leads the nation in rushing even though the whole team basically sat out aginst USC. His average is absurd. He continues to carry this team on his shoulders.
Other words of note.
JJ Billignsley 11 tackles; great game, but we need to work on not leaving your feet when you tackle. The number of tackles you have missed this season because you have left your feet is innumerable. Stay on teh ground and keep wrapping them up.

I can appreciate those picks. I also liked Marques Harris for tackling. I thought he had a few big hits.

Thanks for covering these for me. If you think it is hard to give awards having only heard the game on the radio image how I would have done having only gotten updates sent to my phone.

Hey I agree with your picks. I know it’s hard to just listen on the radio but at least on the radio you hear who made the tackle unlike ABC’s coverage where they flip to some other game or tell you Friends is coming on at 8pm on thursday. On the radio you get the real play by play with out the B.S. I miss not being able to run the game back in slow motion on my VCR. I can’t see my favorite DE Harris get tackled by tackles who can’t contain him and also watch him make and some times miss a tackle because he too leaves his feet. We are having that problem all over the field. We are missing tackles because were attacking them too high and not getting squared up with our feet on the ground. We have the speed but they need a parachutes to slow them down.
