NCAA sanctions announced
filed in NCAA on Oct.08, 2002
The NCAA is planning a teleconference today to announce their findings in the case against CU. The University is apparently already aware of the findings, but are waiting on the announcement before releasing reactions. More to come later.
UPDATE: The press conference is supposed to happen at 1:00 today. Here is the scoop though (ESPN)

I keep reloading the sites trying to find out what they are. Nothing yet, but I will let you know..
The only intersting I have seen on this yet today was a comparison to the Grambling sacntions of a few years ago. “Grambling was limited to two coaches who could recruit off-campus until Dec. 31 of that year, had its official visits reduced from 56 to 50 for the 1997-98 recruiting year, and an assistant coach was required to attend a regional compliance seminar.”

Sounds like Rick got off lightly. If I were the Barbara Hedges, the U of W AD, I would be keeping a very close eye on him. Although she isn’t really against that sort of thing if you remember her courtship of Ricky boy. You can ask her about it.

As a lifelong UW fan, I’ve been waiting for the other shoe to drop with RN. First the team starts to feel the wheels wobble last year, then they fell off against UCLA, Oregon State, & Miami, and then this past weekend vs Cal. I enjoyed his team 2 seasons ago, but hated the way he left CU, which carried over to bad feelings from the CU fans towards us.
Neuheisel should make a donation to the general scholarship fund at CU, & if possible earmark it to the Athletic Dept.

All in all this could have been much worse for the University of Colorado. I agree with both the Chancellor and Dick Tharp. The sanctions were not out of line, considering the scope of the violations that occurred. We can argue all day that the violations happened while Rick Neuheisel was in charge, but the fact is that they happened in the CU athletic department.
As for Rick. We all know he is an ineffective football coach and his only true value to his team is in the living room of the recruits. So it is quite possible that the NCAA has really gotten to him where it hurts most. It is too bad that our sanctions are going to hurt for two years and he only has one year to contend with. I would like to see Rick Neuheisel publicly admonished and placed on probation for 2 years. That man is bound to commit multiple more violations and I would like to see them come back to bite him in the ass.
BTW, Does this mean that he has to stop recruiting Ochs?

Is that scholorship thing right? We have to take a 5 scholorship hit all in one year? That sucks that they can’t spread them out over two years. All in all I think the sanctions are fair. At least there is no TV or bowl ban. I still think Rick should have gotten more punishment. I would say this hurts him, but I’m sure he’ll find some way to weasel around the sanctions.

Ochs should go to UW… he and Rick are a perfect match.

looks like Ochs is going to Montana.
