Buffaloes Roll Over Bruins!

Live from sunny Southern Calfornia….
The Buffs finally put together damn near a complete ball game. We ran, we passed, we mixed it up. We won and we didn’t look too bad doing it.
Whtat was good:
We ran the ball. Unlike last week when we tried to run it down USC’s colective throat and tried nothing else, this week we mixed it up enough to let the run be effective. Nothing like a couple of bootleg options to the tighend to open up the running game.
We got pressure on the Quarterback. While I still have issues with our pass coverage, nothing helps so much as pressure on the QB. If he doesn’t have time to throw the ball, he doesn’t have time to make completions.
What was bad.
Pass Coverage. We still were giving far too much of a cushion. Crossing patterns were completed all day over the middle. The one time I noticed that one of our CB’s was up close to his man on the line it was a CB blitz. The blitz resulted in a sack, but if we are going to try that again, we need to occasionally line up close and cover.
Third Down Defense. We need to stop them on third down. Once in a while. Please. Far to many times UCLA stopped themselves on third down through incomplete pases. Maybe someday we will stop a team wih our defense and not their mistakes.
There was more that was both good and bad, but I am going to go meet up with some folks at the bar to celebrate.
GO BUFFS!

For as much crap as we gave Robert Hodge last week, I think we need to give him a load of credit this week. He struggled in the first half, but stuck with it and found his groove in the second. He made good passes and seemed like he was finally comfortable. Way to go Robert!
