Eric Crouch is retiring
filed in Rivals on Sep.12, 2002
Eric Crotch is retiring. He was a a horrible quarterback anyway. I don’t understand why the Heisman trophy has turned into a who will suck most in the NFL contest.
The article missed the part where Bruce Springsteen’s “Glory Days” could be heard from Crotch’s pickup on his way back to Omaha. You can’t make this stuff up.
Also we need a rivals icon. Please sent any suggestions to marc@buffs.tv

I guess we won’t see him again until he’s crying in Lincoln after the Buffs destroy the Huskers.

Well if it is a “Who will suck most in the NFL contest” Rashaan Salaam would be on that list. At least Eric decided to quit himself, Rather then being cut.

It’s pretty easy to slam someone when you are sitting on your fat ass behind a desk, isn’t it? Try putting yourself in his shoes & then maybe you would understand why he retired. He is & always will be a quarterback, not a wide reciever. And he will be back. Mark my words.
January 31st, 2003 on 9:59 am
He didn’t even give it a chance. Remember Slash? Kordell Stewart was in the same situation. He stuck it out and eventually became the starting QB. He’s not the current starter, but he is still a team player. Anyone who quits *BEFORE* a single game has been played because they don’t like their perceived role doesn’t deserve to play.
And what’s this about “he is and always will be a quarterback”? Maybe he’s a quarterback in a two-hand-touch pick-up game in the park, but he isn’t a quarterback anywhere else because he quit.
Rashaan did turn out to be a “bust”. But at least he gave it a shot. We’ll never know if Crouch could have cut it as an NFL QB or not because he took his signing bonus and quit.
February 7th, 2003 on 11:14 pm
i think he gave his signing bonus back.

You guys suck, Eric Crouch was a hero to collage football. He was to show the power one person could bring to a field. Just look at Nebraska without him!
February 10th, 2003 on 10:58 pm
Just how many times did the Barf-aloes beat NU when he was playing? Thank You!! Sit back down and shut-up!!

I’m glad all of you Husker fans are back on board again. It sure got quiet around here after your season went into the crapper right off the bat. Now you’ve decided it’s easier to think about the glory days when Crotch was running the offense and your defense didn’t look like a bunch of junior high school players. I’m glad we can offer this space for you to vent. It doesn’t matter how good Crotch was in college, he is still a quitter. Some rebuttals:
HuskerFan: Good one with Rashaan Salaam, however we have an ace up our sleeve. Ladies and gentlemen, I give to you, Lawrence Phillips! How many leagues has he been kicked out of now?
huskernutt: You’re right, Crotch will be back. Back in Lincoln sitting in the boxes for them to trot out when they need the crowd to cheer a little bit. They did this at the CU game this year in a pathetic display of desperation. “Our team sucks, but cheer loud because look who’s in a luxury box!” I do have to disagree with your other statement however. Eric Crotch was never a quarterback. He’s a running back that you happened to line up under center. A quarterback should be able to pass the ball as well as run and we all know that never happened with him.
Brady: It’s college, not collage. You obviously never went.
Husker7: For the record, I’m already sitting down. It’s hard for me to remember, but I seem to recall some game where we demolished the Huskers so badly, the children were crying in the stands. I also seem to remember that Crotch was involved in that game. Oh well, I’m sure it will come to me at some point.

How many national championships does Colorado have? AND NOW, How many does Nebraska have? How many schools model their football program after the Husker’s. Does anybody even follow Colorado football? Eric was a one man highlight film. Enough said.
February 19th, 2003 on 8:11 am
Eric may have had some highlight moments, but the facts stand as this.
1. Eric never was a quarterback, he was a running back for the Huskers
2. Crotch Never even gave teh NFL a chance he left before the preseason was over.
3. It doesn’t matter whether you talk about Rashaan Salaam or Crotch, None of these guys have been as good in the NFL as they were in college.
The only difference is that every other Heisman winner at least attempted to succeed in the NFL. Crotch didn’t have teh guts to even give it a shot.
February 24th, 2003 on 2:45 pm
none of that eric crouch stuff matters.marshall faulk would have started receiver over him and marshall is a running back.plus there is no way he would have started over tory holt and isaac bruce anyways.its good that he retired.

How did Nebraska do this year? I can’t seem to remember. Oh, now it’s coming back to me. I can’t decide which made me happier–Beating Nebraska AGAIN, this time in Lincoln(where they still have no electricity), or watching Nebraska lose over and over and over and over……..
March 13th, 2003 on 7:18 pm
TALK ALL THE SMACK YOU WANT, BUT NEBRASKA IS 43-15-2 AGAINST THE CU BUTTS!
March 15th, 2003 on 4:45 pm
Some people are so mean and yes we do have electricity. I love Nebraska and I will stay here forever. I absolutely have the biggest crush on eric crouch and i have for like a couple years. GO HUSKERS!!!! who cares if we lose?? thats not all our state is about ya know??
March 20th, 2003 on 6:17 pm
You buffs fans talk alot of crap. Being a true Nebraska fan I will not reply in kind. I dont need to talk, Nebraska and Colorado’s history says enough. Contrasting both programs shows that Buff fans have no room to talk. I’ll see you in Boulder in 2003. GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!
March 27th, 2003 on 9:53 am
43-15-2 enough said
March 30th, 2003 on 1:49 pm
I cant believe how much crap you Buffs talk when once in a blue moon you girls beet the huskers, the Huskers are a dynasty, and everybody knows who we are, and for our fans we respect college football and talent no matter what program they play for, enough said!!!!!!!!!
April 8th, 2003 on 4:57 pm
43-15-2 HUGE rivalry there. GO HUSKERS from the NU fans of Northern Nevada.
April 9th, 2003 on 9:01 am
I find it intersting that this thread has nothing to do with the CU Nebraska rivalry, but that is all you Husker fans can seem to talk about..
Fact – Eric Crotch won the Heisman in a year that his team did not even with Big XII North Championship.
Fact – Eric Crotch never played a down in the NFL
Fact – Eric Crotch quit.
From these facts it can be determined that Eric Crotch was one of the biggest Heisman disappointments since the inception of the trophy.

wow, i just happend to arrive at this website, and i have never seen such immaturity. i am a true, devoted fan to one of these teams, but i’m not even going to mention which team because someone will just start criticizing me. wow, you people seriously need to grow up.
April 17th, 2003 on 1:41 pm
amava – Thanks for stopping by. I find it funny that you are criticizing us for criticizing others. Pot, Kettle, Black. Keep in mind that one of the wonderful things about the internet is that if you don’t like something, you don’t have to visit that site anymore.
Allison – please enlighten me as to what else your state is all about. I’ve been to Nebraska many times and have yet to find a good reason to stop and stay awhile.
April 17th, 2003 on 2:14 pm
Gaamp, You’re probably one of the obnoxious Colorado jackasses who come to Lake McConaughy and leave all your trash laying on our beaches. Trust me, most of us would prefer you NEVER come back to our state. If yours didn’t SUCK so bad, you might be inclined to stay home!
April 17th, 2003 on 2:32 pm
Did you write that whole post with a straight face? I guess when you’re forced to live in Nebraska, you get delusional. I’m glad you think Colorado sucks. Please don’t ever think about moving here, we’ve got too many Nebraskans here as it is. I’m sure Lake McConaughy is nice, I’ve never been. To tell the truth, I don’t believe the words Nebraska and vacation have ever been joined together in my mind. There is one thing we agree on however, both of us hope I NEVER have to come back to your state. Unfortunately, I-80 happens to run right through the middle and I’m sure the need will arise to journey through your god-forsaken state to reach a more desirable location. If so, I promise I’ll try to make my time there as short as possible.

Hmmm… After doing some research here is what I have found on our teams’ histories of QBs in the NFL. You’ve had 4 and we’ve had 5.
Huskers
1972-74 Jerry Tagge GreenBay
1975-84 Dave Humm, Oakland
1977-86 Vince Ferragamo, Los Angeles Rams
1983-87 Bruce Mathison, San Diego
Buffs
1941-44 Leo Stascia Brooklyn
1977 Ken Johnson Buffalo
1980 Jeff Knapple Denver
1995-present Kordell Stewart Pittsburgh
1997-present Koy Detmer
It turns out that Eric Crouch isn’t on the list of QBs who have played in the NFL on your side. Scott Frost has played in the NFL but not QB.
So the question on my mind is if Eric Crouch is the better than any of our QBs, why is he not playing in the NFL? Crouch put up some monstrous rushing numbers in college, this is true. But the fact is he never could throw the ball very well at all.. During his entire senior season he never threw for more than 200 yards. In fact, Kliff Kingsbury threw for over 500 more yards in one season than Crouch threw for in his entire career (5017-4481). In fact, the top 2 passers from Colorado have more career passing yards than the Huskers number 1 ranked passer and we have 4 QBS that have performed better than Crouch. Crouch is only number 3 on the Huskers career passing yards list despite playing all four years of his career at NU.
The numbers just don’t back you claim. Eric Crouch is not better than any QB we have had. He is not even the best quarterback that the Huskers have had.
Cheers
Marc
One more thing. I found this quote on ESPN from Gene Wojciechowski while checking this out. “Crouch plays quarterback at Nebraska, which to NFL scouts is like playing piano in a marching band — it doesn’t translate well.”
April 23rd, 2003 on 2:31 pm
Regarding Crouch’s pro career, all I have to say is “Stand by!”
You have to give him credit for quitting the Rams when he felt the fit just wasn’t right.
Eric actually had some injuries that prevented him from going “Balls out” on the field. Many others would have sat around, drawing a paycheck while not earning it.
His confidence in his abilities and skills made the question of “Maybe if I quit now I’ll never get another chance” a non-factor in his decision.
I like the Buffs as a football team that’s always had a lot of heart but unfortunately their fans have always SUCKED ! Win or lose it doesn’t matter.
The CU fans are a lot like the K-State fans. New to having a competitive program and you both just don’t know how to deal with it. remember the CU vs CSU game? The police had to use teargas to disperse the crowd. That’s sad, sad, SAD.
Come visit Nebraska when you grow up.
April 23rd, 2003 on 9:36 pm
thank you truehusker I honestly never heard of colorado football, they have a team???
April 24th, 2003 on 10:30 am
Low and behold, what do you know Crouch is back in the NFL. Playing QB for the Packers…Suprise, suprise. Now what do you have to say about him not being in the NFL?
April 24th, 2003 on 1:13 pm
First i will like to say to all them fools who is hateing on my man eric crouch. He is the man and if he was in the nfl everyone will be kissing his ass. If retiring made him happy im happy for you and Eric im behind you 100%. if you throwing a football or selling them in still a fan. NU all the way.
April 24th, 2003 on 1:34 pm

An to Everyone Who Hated On Him For Leaving Forget St.Louis He Wanted To Playing QB not WR And He Gonna Be The Next Best Playing Once Brett Farve Get Hurt And All You Suckers Out There Gonna Look Stupid
April 26th, 2003 on 5:17 pm
Eric crouch will prove all you wrong, he’s amazing, and he’s got more balls than all u lazy people that sit there and bitch about him, i bet half of u havent played football in years or at all, i play football, have all my life, maybe im still in high school, but at least i have a better say than u sorry ass’es, crouch will become a doug flutie or a mike vick, except crouch is tougher and faster than both, its pretty hard to through the ball when u get jacked every other play, im gonna laugh at all u sorry buff fans cause a nebrask’an does better than ur sorry buff players
April 28th, 2003 on 4:48 pm
I didn’t read all of the comments, just the main statement at the top of this section. Buffs fans continue to impress me as some of the most low class, un-knowledgeable, whiny babies in all of college football. It’s too bad because the Buffs football program itself is a great one–one that I always admired and cheered for when they weren’t playing my Huskers. You fans and a lot of the bad/inaccurate reporting done by the media combine to make Buffs fans a collection of losers.
p.s. Eric Crouch was a remarkable athlete and football player–those of you who spoke against him could never hold a candle to him.

I deleted the last three posts due to the fact that they lacked even a glimmer of intelligence. I’m also going to lock this thread as it’s turning into a back and forth name calling session (I’m guilty of this as well). We’ll have to agree to disagree.
