Barnett to Continue With Three Back Rotation
filed in Depth Chart on Aug.13, 2002 by Katfish
Looks like Brown, Purify and Houston will continue with the three back rotation established last year. “Who takes the first snap, I don’t really care. It won’t be an issue for us. All three of them are going to play. There is little difference in their productivity, but there’s a lot of difference in their style” said Barnett.

Barnett seems to think it will all work out. I think I agree with him.. it all worked out last year. Here are some more of his comments on it

I think this rotation stuff is detrimental to the
players professional outlook. They aren’t going to put up huge numbers and the opinions will be that they aren’t capable of playing four quarters as one of two running backs like most pro teams have.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Any coach who makes his calls based on what will be best for a single player’s pro outlook is screwing it up for everyone on the team. Including the player in question. Which player do you pick? Where do you draw the line. I think if you are worried about that then you install a pro offense too. You certainly don’t go with something atniquated like the option or the wishbone.
Instead, you put in the program that gives you the best chance at winning. With winning comes media coverage and noteriety. With that come NFL eyes.
Let’s not forget that with our three back rotation last year we had two players rush for nearly 1,000 yards.
